Setups changed a bit from that pic, i tile up to 20 in the middle screen, excess tables tile onto the right screen. I keep Chrome and all the main lobbys up on the right screen.

On the left i either stream the golf, or keep up the betting markets just to sweat / keep an eye on it. I'll also cascade all the lobbys of tournaments i want to play but registration hasn't opened yet here.

RE: Stack and Tile, you must have it set up wrong. I have it setup so i press start, when a table pops, S&T moves it to the next available slot. I'll only retile (click stop then start) if i'm changing grid layout (12 to 20) or a table occasionally doesn't get initialy "caught" by stack and tile, you shouldn't need to do it everytime a table pops up.

I personally love stack and tile and has enabled me to multitable much more efficiently, couldn't play without it and well worth the price.

Besides stack and tile i have the usual software, table ninja, custom title bar, hem2.

haha, funny u say that, in an ideal world i wouldn't have to grind poker as much so i could work on it full time again. HOWEVER, i'm making way more money in poker right now so i'm probably only assigning about 10-15% of my time working on my sports, the rest reviewing and grinding poker.

Hopefully as my sports roll grows, i'll be earning more to justify working more on it.

Month Review

Last 3 Days Update

Had to get 3 solid days of play in to make my volume goal. Had a great first session +9k or so. The last 2 days have been really tough, i'm mentally exhausted from playing so much poker this month and was punting stacks all over the place yesterday. Today played better but i just wanted the session to end, ran ok and won 1.5k or something. Really tired so i wont be playing / reviewing any poker until monday when i'll get back to work.

Hah, idk, extreme run good on the upper end of my buyins. 1500 games is really a lot for me in terms of hours its one of the highest i've done in a month. The 1500 made up of;

277 MTTSNGS
143 Hyper MTTS
412 Turbo MTTS
769 Reg Speeds / Deepstacks

Its all the reg speeds that keep my variance low.

Week 5 Update

Poker

Havn't played any poker as been off. Actually need to take next 4 days off as its my fiances birthday and shes got some days off. A weeks break after last month can't do any harm tho. Will give me a chance to reset and not get ahead of myself. Will be fired up to play by friday or so as I'll need to be really ready mentally to give it my all when playing for $1k scores and stuff.

Also my internet has been getting little dodgy with a few cut offs so getting ADSL installed to go alongside my cable for peace of mind.

$ Pace = $14383 : Me = $37447
Games Pace = 1438 : Me = 1531

Golf Betting

European Tour

Scot, Stephen Gallacher held off South African's Richard Sterne by 3 shots to win one of golfs most stoopidest lookin trophys at the Dubai Desert Classic.

Win Market: +$1054
Other Markets: +$2055

Lee Westwood looked in good nik to tied 5th in his first competative tournament of the year. Has had a recent caddy change, split ways with his swing coach and uprooted his life to florida in a bid to try to get a major this year. Interesting to see how he'll do playing with his dad next week at Pebble beach on PGA Tour.

PGA Tour

It was the Phil Mickleson show at the Waste Management Phoenix Open at TPC Scotsdale. In round 1 he lipped out a put for a 59, he then held the lead throughout the tournament to win by 4 strokes from Brandt Snedeker.

Win Market: +$250
Other Markets: +$947

Should be a really great US Masters this year with Tiger and Phil firing on all cylinders not to mention great recent performances from Dustin Johnson and Charl Schwartzel and a few others + Rory will start playing in a couple of weeks.

Overall

Great Week with the leaderboards shaping in favorable positions for me. Am running good.

All Markets: +$4313

Adding fitness goals to make sure i workout a bit more to stop me getting fatigued at the end of sessions like i did last month. I prefer to go gym infrequently but do 2 hour sessions. I will also need to organise my time a bit better this month as i had to get my volume in the last couple of days in Jan so wasn't able to workout at that time.

I can't believe I missed this for a month. Glgl this year Jay! Couple golf questions for ya:

What kind of things are you looking for when betting? I would guess it would be recent data from past weeks, historical data, and knowing the course (whats important: GIR/up-n-down/etc) and finding out those stats.

Do you have an automated way to weight these things or do you plug stuff into a spreadsheet and assign your own weights to formulas?

Last question is what is the learning curve like? What kind of hourly can you expect in your first 3months? Barriers of entry?

Can't wait for this thread to develop.

I mark hands every session I play, if it’s a spot where I tank, know I made a mistake or don’t know what my range should be in that spot. I’ll then run ev calcs on the spot using the usual software (flopzilla, wiz, pokerstove etc). If a is spots more complicated and cant be done using the software I’ll work out the spot in excel and then save the spreadsheet so the work is done if a similar spot comes up again.

I like to try to spend as much time working out the best possible play for the spot. If I’m feeling like I need to work harder on my game that day sometimes I’ll work out an entire exploitive street by street range for the hand.

The most time I’ve spent is up to 4 hours on a particular hand, but usually its just a couple of mins.

I’ll do this review before every session I play and wont play unless I’ve done my full review. My thinking is if I’m too lazy to review properly I’m probably too lazy to play well. Its kinda become 2nd nature now and do it without thinking about it.

I also discuss hands with a couple of regs via private forum. We have recently been doing some full tournament hand history reviews.

I recently subscribed to Run It Once and probably watch 1 video a week. The content is very good. I more do this to stay on top of how top players are thinking about the game and if theres anything that I should be thinking about incorporating into my game.

EG. PG recently talked about checking back more flops and raising more turns, something I havn’t really thought about much, but with some history and the right balance its could be an effective strategy against certain player types.

While I’d love to discuss handicapping golf tournaments as it’s a passion of mine, I’ve spent a lot of time and effort working on it that posting any of my own ideas or results from my analysis would eradicate my small ev, particularly when it comes to golf as there’s virtually no good info publically available on it.
Instead, I’ll link you to a video of Justin7 (author of Conquering Risk) approaching to modelling sports, which helped me get started.

Actually being +EV is not too tricky if you have someone who could show u what to do, but no one is going to do that since you would then be in direct competition for the money. Instead you will just have to work it out for yourself. I’d say making small money is not too hard but making good money is hard, and modelling is very hard. My model still needs a lot of work, and my techniques would not be able to beat major sports.

If you break even after 3 months you’ve done well as it shows you have learnt out how identify some +EV bets.

Sports doesn’t really work like poker as an hourly where u can grind X games anytime for a roi%, or bb/100. I guess you could work it out as a function of hours spent developing your “system”, time spent running your “system”, time spent placing bets, average stake and expected roi.

I’ve no idea of mine TBH, would be low of total time spent on it, but hopefully should be higher going forward.

Money

You’d need absolute min 20k roll to make a living of it. Really to make a living and have your roll grow after withdrawals I think u need 100k. However you’re not going to want to be Sports Betting with a 100k roll when you have just started as your never 100% sure your +ev at the start. So I started with 20k hoping it would grow, but after withdrawals and dipping into savings I was forced to over bet and went busto. My plan now is to not withdraw from my sports roll.

Time

Gaining the necessary skills, gathering the data, doing the analysis, and then automating it as much as possible took me months (years!) working on it full time starting from scratch. Albeit I was lazy at times spent way too much time ****ing around and watching golf, sweating bets, but I don’t have that leak too much anymore.

If you wanted to get started, just work on it a few hours a week, and try to improve your methods every week. Start off with a small roll, place some bets keep records and see how you do forward testing. Treat it as a hobby and have some fun. You’d most likely be –ev at the start but hopefully as you gain experience and your methods improve you can work it out a bit.

Week 6 Update

Poker

Kinda a frustrating week.

Started playing again Thursday, with a slightly fuzzy head from GF's birthday celebrations. I felt pretty rusty, decisions took longer and wasn't able to multi-table as well after a week off. Ended up tilting pretty badly after i punted my stack HU vs a reg in a 10r on 888. I remember shouting "**** YOU, I ****ING HATE THAT GUY, ****ING ****" etc. Lost like $500 that session.

Friday, did a longer review of my play the day before, but was similar ****, rusty and tilty. Won like $500

Saturday, monster 12 hour session culmilating with 7th in the $22 Saturday 6max for like $600 which was really frustrating as i had a big stack but kinda blew it vs a maniac never folding whale from Tunisia. He wasn't folding anything but i over adjusted and ended up playing too tight only value betting and he adjusted to my strat. He also had some wierd bluffs in him which made him tricky to play. I had him on my right for about 4 hours. He ran exceptionally well but i was disappointed to lose the chiplead and miss out on the final table. Won like $1.5k.

I didn't Tilt on saturday tho. I made sure to put up "post-it" style notes on spare screen space to remember to reset my brain. Sometimes the intensity of mass multi-tabling for hours can get to you and you forget where you are and why your doing what your doing. Saturdays reminder was like the one in "Mental Game of Poker".

Sunday, set up my golf bets and did my review like everyday. But when it came to playing i just didn't feel like it and took a day off.

BodyClock

My bodyclocks been getting later and later, so i think i'm at the point where i gotta spin it around the clock again and work nights for a bit. I hate waking up at 1 - 2pm everday but cannot sleep at night.

I've also started to become a bit of a variance nit, so i think its good for me to break out of that and play some mid-high peak time mtts, could be a big downswing for next update but am ready mentally, its all variance anyway.

Golf Betting

European Tour

European Tour now heads back to South Africa for a couple of very weak field tournaments while all the big names head to America in preparation for the World Golf Championships. This week was the Joburg Open.

It was a 2 Horse Race going into the final day with 2 South Africans, Richard Sterne (-$500) and Trevor Fisher Jnr (+$4000) 5 Shots Clear of third place. Trevor Fisher Jnr needed a win to claim a european tour card and it was a make a break round for him (pictured below);

But it all got a bit much and he ****ed it shooting +2 and Sterne went on to win by 7 Shots. Place Markets also went pretty ****ty, bad tourney.

Win Market: -$501
Other Markets: -$698

PGA Tour

2 Things that annoy me when it comes to golf betting: 1 is Pro-Am's, watching C List celeb's hacking around tough golf courses is frustrating when you've got money riding on it. The other thing is multi-course events which makes the betting much more fiddly. The AT&T Pro Am @ Pebble Beach is both. This weeks betting would have been actually been great if it wasn't for this guy...

Lots of my favoured golfers finished top 5 / top 10 but Snedeker just too much for all of em.

Win Market: -$794
Other Markets: +$900

Champions Tour

Good Old Rocco (HERO) crushes the old guys on his debut in the Champions Tour.

Win Market: +$547

OVERALL

First Losing Week of the Year, it actually went really badly so pleased that i only lost $500 so still confident overall on how its all working.

Think i'm gonna top up my Sports roll a bit this week and bump it up to $18k so that i feel its still progressing.

Overall: -$546

Heres an example of a very simple calc i made to calculate CEV when facing reshoves from 2 players.

Orange = Input <-- Need to fill in the cells manualy
White, Orange Text = Calculation <-- Formulas
Grey = Output <-- Formula containing the answer

So if a similar spot comes up in my review, i can just plug in the stacks and equities and the calculation is worked out. That one above wouldn't have taken me long to make.

Week 7 Update

Poker

So have righted my bodyclock perfectly, went to bed at 8pm last night and woke up feeling fesh at 5am today, so i am awake for the hours of productivity Lets see how long i can stay here.

Game Selection

After playing some mid / high peak time mtts i've realised game selection is pretty important during this time. I've been working on a spreadsheet looking at all the tournaments that i've played this week looking at the sharkscope average ability score. Each tournament will be rated based on a more complex version of this formula;

Tournament Score = Buyin * (Ability Over Field - Rake : Buyin Ratio)

Once i get it finished the end result hopefully will look like this;

Inputs:

Start Time of Session
End Time Of Session
Number Of Tournaments Want To Play = (X)

Proccess:

Find all the tournaments within timeframe, compute a score for each one

Output:

Spits Out the top (X) tournaments which to register in your session

Golf Betting

Havn't watched much golf as grinding so much.

European Tour -$321

Darren Fichardt held off a very weak field to win the African Open.

PGA Tour $1114

John Merrick (-$154) Saved my ass beating Charlie Beljan (-$2100) in a playoff for his first victory on tour vs a strong field at the Northern Trust Open @ Riviera.

Champions Tour -$291

Typical German Efficiency as Langer wins another Champions Tour event at the Ace Group Classic.

Overall $502

Small profit for the week, feel like my model needs some more work, but time best spent grinding right now.

WGC Matchplay this week. I'll need to create a new simulator for matchplay if i'm going to bet on it. Only have 2 days before it starts, so may do it or not bother and just take a week off.
