Hi everyone. Thought I'd start a thread here so I can get some therapy when I'm on tilt for calling a 4 bet shove on the river with the second nuts. I'd like to discuss some hands I've played and also some common poker knowledge so I can improve as a player.
I have played poker for a few years, but never too seriously. Done my fair share of grinding but havn't put in the work needed for success. Making a blogthread here and getting more involved with the community is a fine start I guess. I'm going to play mostly PLO10€ and PLO20€ but if I spot any good No limit games or an MTT with nice value, I'd jump in. I have just quit my job to attend university, which also give me more time to play poker, and hopefully earn some extra pocket Money since the studentloan isn't all too impressive.
I'm not gonna put up a "I wanna win x buy-ins before y" goal. My goal is simply to become one of the best regs in my games. And when I'm rolled enough for a shot at plo50€, I'd jump in if the games are good. I'm not trying to become a fulltime professional, I just love to win!
So to summaries this, I will post hands here where I've made some terrible plays, I figure if I have to show them in public I hopefully will be less prone to make those plays. I will also post hands where I am lost and/or uncertain of my line. And some random talk about poker and other things as well.
So yesterday I played my first session since starting this blog. Played around 3 hours, PLO10€ and added around 4,5 buy-ins to my roll. The Dynamics at those tables are quite odd I'll have to say. People are very loose and they do not know how to value their starting hands. Especially on my main site. 4/6 players at the tables have around 80 VPIP and it's not uncommon to see a limp, a raise, a 3bet, a 4bet and then the entire table calls that 4bet. So playing tight is right I guess, and to 3bet in position a lot to isolate a single raiser.
Anyway, it's not possible to use a HUD on my main site, nor importing hands, so can't really show the hands I wanted to post here. So two hands from the other site i play on will have to do!
Here I'd say preflop and flop are both quite standard. Maybe my betsize on the flop is a bit too small. On the turn I don't want to check/call and give the flush draw a freecard. I block a 7 as well so I think a bet plays better. Question is, can I ever fold to his raise?
This hand should probably be a fold pre, but I took a flop. If I were heads up vs the short stack I'd just shove this on the flop. But I don't wanna shove bottom set vs two players. On the turn I'm certain that I'm good, such a draw heavy board so I don't think the larger stack would call twice with a higher set with me behind, so I rip it in.
Yesterday was sunday, which means 100% focus on poker. There is always nice value in tournaments on sundays so the cash game grind had to step a side. I started the afternoon with playing a satellite to the "main event" of the week on my mainsite. Got close to the bubble but lost almost my entire stack when I got it in with KKvsAK and couldn't hold. Registered for 8 other tournaments instead, 6 NLH and 2 PLO MTT.s. Don't know what was going on with me because I ran bad, but played even worse. Ended up third in one of the PLO tournies though, which saved me from ending the night in the red. When we were 3 handed I was by far the best player at the table, but I for some reason couldn't find to fold my trips with bad kickers vs the table fish when it was obvious he had the nuts. I promised to post my terrible plays here to make a fool out of myself when I'm banging away my chips for f**k all reason.
Got absolutely destroyed last night. Played PLO vs a proper maniac. We played heads-up for a bit, but mostly 3-handed. He did a pot sized 3 bet everytime someone raised, and a 4bet almost everytime I did 3bet and followed it up with a PSB on the flop. So what I needed to do to beat him was to let the cards do the talking. However I couldn't get anything going. Got it in 3 times preflop and 2 times on the flop. Everytime as more or a less a favourite but got stacked everytime.
I do have some issues playing vs players like that. My strategy is to open tighter and try to isolate the maniac when holding nice rundowns. But when you are playing shorthanded, or even heads up and you don't get any good cards, you are bleeding money when you are constantly folding your blinds. So proper issue for me how to approach them.
On a further note I do consider moving my roll around a bit more, to try to collect some deposit bonuses. The rake at my mainsite is the nuts but they offer no bonuses/rakebacksystems at all. So collecting a few first deposit bonuses might be EV+. I'll look into it.
Havn't been able to play as much as I wanted this week. Had an exam yesterday in statistics. Nailed it though, so can't complain. Since my last post I decided to move my roll to one of the microgaming skins to crack a deposit bonus. The games over there are a lot more passive than I'm used to. More folding to 3bets and less 3 bets in general. It started out slow but found a bit of a rush today to add a few bucks to this bankroll challenge I have going on here.
Since microgaming doesn't export handhistory I still have some issues with posting hands. I'll have to get better at timestamping so I easily can find them later and post some spots here.
As I said, I'll try to crack the deposit bonus, then I want to try out Ultima Poker. New site that looks promising. They have a nice depositbonus as well for another "add-on" to the roll.
