Hi!

I am from Portugal, a very nice place in Europe (do not mistake with Spain).

My goal with this thread is for it to keep me motivated to talk about hands and to really work on my game (like a lot!).

I've been taking my masters degree, and since i do like to study a lot and i have plenty of essays to deliver, it's sometimes hard to play long sessions (i find it hard by nature anyway). I do have less time to play poker now than i had 3 years ago, which is fine because i think i now focus a lot in other life aspects that are, in my opinion, more important.

Background:

Started playing in 08 i guess, watched november nine ivey and blom vs durrrr in 09 ... In 4 months i stoped spewing money at 1$ sng, and moved to NL2-NL10. If i can recall, i was beating NL10 at 10bb/100 (FR 24) at like 40khands, and then i moved to some 12$ one table sng, and ended up playing NL25 FR, when i discovered that you have to fold an overpair sometimes xD. Looking back, and even tough variance was good at NL10, the games were soooooooo much softer :S... I eventually busted at NL25 6max (more action xD), and i went with my 100$ roll to NL50 HU. In a week i build it up to 1K, and lost it eventually due to tilt, bad run, super ultra bad play . Didn't have a clue.

In 2009-2010 (don't really remember the exact year, sorry), i've met a fellow grinder who, being a really nice person and friend, backed me to NL2. I kept that roll for a year, being up something like 500-600$ i guess, playing NL5-NL10 6handed 18-24tables. The summer of 2011, after a big year for my two soccer teams (Porto and Barça), i've managed to book 3 milestones from Stars (i think i won the hand in 2 of them if i can recall correctly). I've paid my backer, and paid my university "propinas" (i don't know the term in English, fees maybe?), and then got backed again, but stoped since i wasnt playing anything besides the small PLO2 session here and there.

After that, i was stacked in 2012 to NL5 Zoom, and i ended up breaking even i think, due to not knowing how to really play and to tilt some profits at NL25 with just 25 bins. I ended up the staking obviouslly.

In 2013, i was staked again to NL5-NL10 (zoom, 8 tables fr+6handed, which sucks), and i guess i played something like 3 months, managed to be up some 400$ (estimate), and ended up staking in Septembter due to bad run-bad play-time to do other things.

Now i've playing since January, already finished the staking deal, and grinding NL5 6handed.

Hope i can go as up as i can to pay my rent, bills and buy books to study, if that is NL10, than that's fine by me.

Sorry if i cant post lifetime stats, i just got this database since january.

Hope i can get help from some of the other players, and we can evolve together. Alias Pokerstars: JoséSocrates, but hided from search xD.

Will be playing 5nl zoom 6max, and hope to make 30K hands this month and 300$ profit (incluinding Satellite rackback and Stellwar). Month so far:

At 20~January, i stoped playing 4 tables and started to play 2, and i think that, along with hand analysis, was a very nice thing for my game (now i'm back to 4 but i'm better). Will probably do that more often.

So Month Goals:

- 30K hands.
- 300$ profit.
- Stop cbeting too much in 3bet pots and firing the second just because he has JJ-TT and folds lol (this is such a leak imo).

Small session:

254 hands: +12.47$.

Ran hot and over ev, flopped a lot of hands and got always or almost always vs villan bottom range in bluffs and top range with nuts. Stoped playing because this mouse "click" is really tilting me, and i am texting while playing so i really don't think that i am playing a-game, so better to quit while up and go watch a series or read or something .

Villan looks regish from stack size. No info anyway.

Bet turn is probably right, but the doubt here is if villan floats enough to craise turn (with all his aces, draws). Can we assignin a range like mid pairs to check back and bet almost every other stuff? Toughts. River is a call i guess giving this sucker odds.

Villan is a reg (21/21 after this hand, among 34 hands and 3betted just this one, otherwise has 100% fold steal). I shoved because i was texting and taking a note on another table. Got to stop texting, this time went well but they will fold like 90% of the time so im not maximizing my ev here.

This one is probably spewy:

Reg is 23/12 after 72 hands. 0 3bet, 21% VPIP SB in 15 hands, and calls with TT from the blinds. Cbeting is arguable but i think i can make it +ev with gutshot and this size. When he craises i think is nuts range is just 3 combos of set, and some draws and some Ax's. So i thought i can float in this spot since we're still a bit deep and try to bluff some turns since his craising is probably wide (got no reason to presume this but i really don't think that he wouldn't bluff that often in this spot vs my size). The turn i did spew a lot, but better to call anyway. Same process, he still bets hands like Ax and i guess he folds vs raise when we can be raising hands like KJ AJ (which he blocks) Q10 AK. River is standar but can make it like 1,5$?

Today's first session.

288 hands: -2,18$

Unhappy about this session. Even though i runned bad and seem to keep getting raised when bluffing and folded when vbetting, i think i've played pretty poorly, over agressive. A bit tired and not concentrated so probably is due to that plus variance, but the later i can't control.

Hands:

Villan looks regish but not info and just 8 hands. I guess is range is in the river is Q10, QJ, QK, AQ, so 32 combos of Q, some sets plus nines wich are 22, 77, 910, 89, A9, K9 (rough estimate obv), which are 38 combos, plus some J10 and sometimes K10 which i wont account here, being the J10 16 combos. Since i just bluff bust vs 20% range and i got beat by the rest, i thought that turning into bluff is fine here, if he folds (like a standard reg) 57% range aproximatedly, it needs to work like 50% time so i think its fine. Thoughts? Imo calling is out of the question, even with QJ. My line is strong so don't expecting him to vbet with some random JJ-TT and 88, but expect him to bet with Q10 since i have almost any Qx in my range.




In this one villan is only playing one table and has only one hand so no reads. Anyway, this is a obvious bad river call since even if i assume is fishy he's getting there a lot on the river. Don't really think i can beat 20% of his range when he doesn't look very agro (calling two streets in this board), so very bad call despite the odds. Monkey clicking.

Yesterday was pretty tired (went jogging), so didn't play anymore hands. Decided to exclude myself from Stars for 7 days (sucks that they don't have a 3 day period for excluding), since i have one paper to deliver and didn't work on it this week (except for this morning). But forgot about some money i have on FTP, and after studying a bit this morning, i've decided to play a bit.

FTP NL5 zoom looks softer, even though the player pool is smaller. One difficult is that i have to adjust a different style of play, playing way tighter and 3beting way less as a bluff since there are more fish and more shorts. Given that i have to 3bet more broadways and Ax kind of hands in FTP, i.e. play more towards value (and to that i had fewer spots where you can steal more profitable, due to the presence of fishes in the blinds, so i had to adjust my steal range in FTP.

Played fine, but feel like i was playing more c-game in the last hands, and was desmotivated all along so decided to stop this session since i wasn't exploiting the majority of the spots that i should've been exploiting (internet conetion and not being familiar with the software probably had a role in that anyway).

180 Hands: +7,88$.

Some spots:


Villan is 19/14 over 71 hands, looks regish, but has 0% cbet in four flops, so can presume that he won't be aggro without a very good hand. Second villan looks regish but i have just 17 hands on him 13/0 anyway. Flop looks like a clear cbet and in the turn besides picking up some equity (gutshot and still the two overs, even tough he can block those with some % of his range), i think barreling is fine. His range must look like some 9 draws combos (76,78,89,910, plus some Axs, like A7s-A10s-AQs), JJ probably, 66, 33, TT, so 12 set combos, as top pair J10, QJ, KJ, AJ, 33 combos, some Q10 wich are 12 combos, and midpairs like 44, 55, 77, 88, 99, which are 30 combos. We can add some 54s which are 4 combos. So total range is 100 combos. We can probably fold all the combos (besides 99) of midpairs, so 24 combos, he probably folds 3 combos of 54s. He's likely folding 27% of the range. I think it is slightly +ev and i am not accounting for the times he misses his draw or i hit an A vs KJ or a K vs AJ and any of those two vs 99. River is bad for bluffing imo, but can checkjam vs some sizes and if i expect him to vbet something like AJ. My range looks bluffbusting at the river anyway.





In this one i had no reads or important info, but the sb looks fishy and the limper can be a ss regular with a low pocket pair limping range so it's a good spot to iso raise. Flop is standard since i have a load of equity vs a Jack (14 outs or so).






In this one villan is reguish, but no significant info or anything. Flop cbet size is standard since i don't want him to fold hands like mid pairs or overs, but after his raise i think i have to 3bet giving that i expet a regular to raise here A10s K10s, sets, worst flushes, some two pairs, and way less bluffs. It's standard to get it him here, even if he doesn't shove sets and two pairs, but if we do the math i guess we will realise that it's pretty close in ev terms (got to be god 37%, he has way more Axs and Kxs than worst flushes and board blocks some sc's). Was good this time anyway.

Hands:

Played a session on FTP, runned bad and made a couple bad river calls. Feel like a didnt play a-game trough all the session, but the software still tilts me.

vs two regs. Think jamming turn is fine, but betting like 1,90$ is not bad either since i am probably going to call any river (the reason to bet is that there are many scar cards in the river 3 handed that i will miss value i guess).











This hand is strange... He can bluff/value raise K on the flop, but the turn check sucks (was going to craise myself the turn). On the river i guess that he won't call a bet with air and will vbet some weaker kings, so craising is fine for value.

This one is such a bad river call vs a bluff range basiclly KJ and a value range of AQ, AA, KK, 33, TT. Doubt he would be playing QJ this way and QT is probably just 4 combos anyway. Bad river call.










This one was also a bad river call, but can't see that many 6's on his range (2 a6s, 66, 67, and some A6o), but still i just beat a bluff and get choped vs A, so bad call imo. OTT i don't think i can either fold or raise.











This one sucks xD, but i realize i cant really jam in neither of the streets and have to check fold river anyway vs fish.

New session, started playing my usual style but had to adjust, since the player pool in FTP is way different from the player pool in Stars at NL5 zoom. Played among 20/18 6 % 3bet and just 40% steal which sucks but it's the + ev style in this player pool from what i can tell, since regs call down way more often, and there are more fishes anyway and so the ranges are not well defined as i would like. Im not saying is better or worst, its just diferent.

850 hands: +8,46$

Utg is very competent from what i can see, 23/15 just 5 utg open (in just 20 hands utg so wreva). BB is fish and SB is either fish or ss. Can't really fold turn and i think is a very good spot even with medium flush since reg plays sets this way and draws like QJd AJd etc etc etc. Prefer to jam turn than to have to fold vs donkbet if another diamond its on the river. I do extract value from worst hands with these odds anyway. But would be interesting in another opinions on this hand.





Got soul readed by the villan (passive reg btw). Think its a god spot to triple barrel since my beting range is pretty strong here and his range looks pretty weak anyway on the flop. Would not bet river if it was different but that seven is such a good card and villan has to fold almost anything. Sigh.










This one is pretty close anyway, but don't know if villan (god ss reg) shoves AQ to make it breakeven so i do prefer to call here.








In this one vs player who is probably fishy (40/13) i shouldve beted more on the turn but sigh.

One more session, feel like was playing almost always A-game, but made two or two spewy calls (and one bluff if i can recall). Anyway, i am trying to play tighter (24/20 5% 3bet), and i think i finally found a nice style to play vs the FTP pool in zoom NL5.

Played a session this morning. Session was bad overall since i was briking every single spot, and getting called a lot when i was weak, which sucks but variance has a role in that. Also played some spots autopiloting but those were small so not such a big deal since i am able to play those if concentrated and not autopiloting. Around hand 900 got lucky and start to flop some hands which is fine

In this one villan is competent SS regular, utg 15% open (so a lot of hands in his utg range i guess), cbet 57% and cbet turn 50%. Don't really think that he's oriented towards value here since thought i would cbet turn with sets and flushes in most of this spots since my range has a load of hands that a check behind in the turn, so tough he was cjaming like draws, Qxd, two pairs, which sucks some % but i have to call 1/4 odds so np. Got to cbet turn also since i can extract value from some hands and don't mind getting cshoved vs this stack with this hand. QK goes along the same. Probably blocking or checking back QJ without draw.










In this one villan has reguish stats (43/13 over 39 hands so not a good indicator) but calls 93o and 63o from the bb vs lp steal so i think he his fish. Want to get it in in the flop so my turn check makes no sense, and shouldve played this one better imo. River i have to call giving his size.








In this one villan is either ss or fish, not sure, but is standard, liked my size on the flop with this hand.









In this is vs reg and fish, should've not jamed and probably make it lik 2$ or something.










This one sucks, but i think i have to call the 3barrels. Villan is 7 agg over 190 hands, 93 flop cbet and 43 turn cbet (this one is meh), had a timing tell on him cbeting fast with air, so can arguably be a good call (good bluff cards anyway).








The last two are pretty standard.

I think atm it's looking like playing 6max on acr for nl2, then jumping to merge for next level but there's plenty of time to change my mind by then. I'll likely start a brand new thread once i make the deposit. But will def post hands and graphs, every pg&c thread needs them :-) i would comment on the hh but thats too much for me first thing in the morning, will try later today or over the weekend
