Hey 2p2,

Decided to start a thread to keep myself accountable and track my progress.

I'm a 28 year old german and I've played for about a year. I'm pretty much
purely studying with GTOWizard and am looking to understand as much about
the game as possible.

Goal wise I'm trying to crack NL25 by the end of this year and keep pushing for higher stakes asap.

5NL results:
Spoiler:

10NL results:
Spoiler:

Current weakest parts of my game:
  • Overfold BvB / BTN vs B Situations
  • Don't play aggro enough in BvB / BTN vs B
  • Underbluffing in 3bet pots
  • Folding too much in 3bet pots
  • Thinking as range instead of hand

When I started out I was very, very aggressive. Now my red line is my
biggest problem and I'm certain it's because I'm playing nitty / scared.
I'm working on current weakness and evaluating them with Tombos21 spot importance sheet mostly,
but the 10NL red line speaks for itself.

Current GTOW Trainer stats / spot importance:
Spoiler:

I'll update this thread with results, GTOW Scores and interesting hands.

Happy to answer any questions

Lars

+1 following this! Looks like you're off to a solid start and it's great you're approaching things from a GTO training standpoint. I'm also doing a microstakes climb, but from an MDA alone standpoint. I'm at 5NL right now, but hope to get to 25NL+ within the next 6 months or so. It would be great to follow each other's journeys

sounds, great definitely interested in how your journey goes. do you categorize different player types or play against general population?

Right now I have 2 separate strategies, one for fish and one for regs. But against these 2 classes of players (fish/regs) the strategy tries to exploit the average tendencies of these populations. However, as I build up my database and get more experience with MDA I hope to start exploiting more discretized player classes, such as better optimizing bet sizes vs. specific types of fish, etc.

So pretty happy overall with today.
Started out by drilling 200 Hands BTN vs SB. When I blundered I went into the solver to study the spot and try to understand why
the solver has a different strategy. Went better than last time and doing that before playing really helped me to not play scared.

Todays Results:
Spoiler:

While I couldn't keep the 2BI win I had after half the session I managed to have a good red line.
Was putting alot of pressure on my opponents, especially in 3bet pots and it worked out nicely.

Will update with interesting hands once they are analyzed.

Good luck with your challenge

Do you have a link to this "Tombos21 spot importance sheet" I'm curious to see what that is?

Thanks for sharing. I was actually planning to check my database to understand most common spots to study, sounds like I saved a couple of hours with this

Glad to help. Updating your GTOW Scores and then sorting by by Importance is pretty neat.

So yesterday I played, slightly winning EV-wise, even though we got coolered alot. Red Line is pretty good and EV loss is minimal in Wizard so I was pretty happy.

Saturday

Spoiler:

Then came today... -5BI in 400 hands.

Spoiler:

I've finally stopped playing passive but the coolers start to affect my mental game. Top FH vs Quads (twice lol), set over set,
set vs flopped straight etc. etc...
Need to manage to control my emotions, losing 5BI isn't the end of the world and it doesn't make me a worse player
than before. Easy to write it out now but really hard to apply.

I mean wtf is this

Clawed most of my losses back, but will update Graph once ~week.

Hand with the biggest EV leak:

No idea why I called the flop instead of shoving. Every non straight completing Turn puts me in the dumpster.
Turn was -20EV fold

Update

Had to work a lot so didn't get to study too much. I'm mostly working on 3bet pots right now, as
as I find that I can improve / learn faster there than BvB.
My red line is still bad but it's becoming less steep. I'm not sure how much I'm supposed to be losing
via red line. Any advice?

This month results so far.

Didn't think anyone was even reading this, glad to see I was wrong.

So let's recap on the most important stuff since the last post:

Red Line
Much better, I don't overfold anymore and became a lot more aggressive.

Big Loss
Lost half my bankroll in 4 days, 4 BI when shot taking 25NL and then 15BI when moving to 10NL again.
Made me almost quit, but ultimately it was the best thing that could've happened to me. Made me realize how weak my mental game was and turn to stoicism.

Can't Play
Since Christmas I can't play because my ID is outdated and I'm waiting for my new one to arrive. Helped me realize I was playing a lot more than studying so right now I study only.

This thread

I was going to make a new one to start of the year and go with it, but I'll keep going in this one. 1 post / week with results and goals for the month.

January Goals

- Finish reading A Game Poker
- Play 1k Hands in GTO Trainer 3 bet pots and study every Mistake I make
- 50 Times Range Builder on GTOW

Gonna crush 2024

I've actually kept on reading both of your threads and saw you're both making amazing progress.
Thanks for the motivation to keep posting and keeping myself accountable.
If you want I'm totally down to sweat each other some time

Hope you have the best of luck on your journey too!

I can finally play again and crushed my first session

Goal Progress
  • Behind on GTOW Hands and Rangebuilding exercises, but gonna catch up
  • On Track to finish A Game Poker until the end of month

I've also started reading Modern Poker Theory and love it! I'm sure I will need to read it and A Game Poker more than once to fully absorb all the knowledge but it's great. No idea why I was watching random **** on youtube in the evening instead of reading books about topics I care about.

After the forced break my love for poker is back and stronger than ever before - also partially due to improving my mental game. If you have ChatGPT+, check out the Stoic Sage GPT I made which I use to improve my mental game even more.

As a last note, going to be more active on 2p2 moving forward. Definitely a lot easier since I have access to the game again.
