Let me introduce myself:

Some years ago I decided to start traveling the world and rely on Poker as my source of income. The "Travel the world" part went well, I lived in the Dominican, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Colombia and Thailand and traveled to Vietnam, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Macau etc. I also did an epic tour where I cycled through New Zealand last year, and a badly failed attempt to cross Laos on a bicycle (decided to learn how to ride a motorbike for one day and crashed into a cow, so couldn't keep cycling because I ****ed up my legs).

As for Poker, I survived. I went straight busto after 3 months and was on the edge of having to give up and apply at Mc Donalds several times. It all changed in the beginning of 2011, I decided to use my FULL potential and got down to work. With little challenges I motivated myself to study harder than ever, and the result was that I moved from 50nl/100nl to highstakes. I even took a couple of pretty dumb nosebleeds shots, but on the bright sight I wont ever again have a "worst day ever" because I set the bar pretty high that fateful night....

Around september/october I was done and took a long break, traveling even more and not grinding at all. In January I decided to attempt PLO, and let's just say that I'm never ever gonna play that **** again. Tilt has always been a huge leak of mine, having smashed possibly over 50 mouse in my career, and PLO triggered my tilt way too hard to be a winning player.

Ok, so back to Hold'em. Went horrible as well, shouldn't have jumped back in at 400nl. After loosing all january, I made some decent money in february, that I immediately lost as a way to salute march. So that's where I am right now, donking around 100nl-400nl.

As for traveling I just got myself a bad ass mountainbike, a GT Force Carbon Expert, seemingly the best choice to brake my neck, which im planning to take to south brazil soon.

The Strategy challenge:

-only the days where I played a hand (or more) count

-post one hand a day in a forum

-reply to 2 other hands

-watch one video every 3 days, write down and post the most interesting hand with the thoughts of the coach

-analyze one hand every 2 days mathematically. Im using Cardrunners EV here to pick hands a part. It will always be more than one simple calc. I change ranges, frequencies etc. to compare.

-If I fail Im gonna post a video of me eating a 100g piece of butter with a spoon, without anything else. So far it's the best I came up with. It has to be a punishment (I do think eating one spoon alone of butter is disgusting), but not too hard so I simply wont ever come back to 2+2 if I fail.

-I can substitute in this order: Analysis, post a hand, reply to a hand (so I can only replace with something that takes more effort)

-Always starts monday, deadline is sunday 23:59 in whatever timezone I am.

-battlefields are 2+2, deuces cracked and pokerstrategy. No offense but I don't like to post my own hands at 2+2 because I hate nothing more than one word replies to a hand.

(this week starts a day late, tuesday-sunday)

I have tried to do this challenge as a group thing, over 10 people joined, not one went through with it, so I gave up on that because it took me time and effort to organize everything for nothing. If anyone wants to join, go ahead and make a thread and I will follow it, if you go through with it for more than week we can do things together.

Everyone is welcome to comment on the hands and stuff I post here. Just please no replies like "fold ldo", I'd much rather see uncertain replies or questions.

heres the stuff for week 1:

Grabbed by Holdem Manager
NL Holdem $2(BB) Replayer
Hero ($240)
BB ($63.55)
UTG ($203)
UTG+1 ($200)
CO ($268)
BTN ($289)

Dealt to Hero 8 8

fold, fold, fold, BTN raises to $5, Hero calls $4, BB raises to $63.55 (AI), fold, Hero calls $58.55

FLOP ($132) 4 J 9

TURN ($132) 4 J 9 6

RIVER ($132) 4 J 9 6 J

villain is 18/17, cbet 12% over a sample of 150 hands. his squeeze is 12% as well but now the sample is super small. he showed up with QJo here so its at least 13.4% (i guess hes a pro rat and plays straight up EQ qithout random moves). lets go with a range of 14% then: AA-22,AKs-ATs,KQs-KTs,QJs-QTs,JTs,AKo-AJo,KQo-KJo,QJo

EV of my call is: +9.1$
moving ranges around i see that my BE point is around 10% squeeze range for BB.

NL Holdem $1(BB) Replayer
Hero ($100)
BB ($52.03)
UTG ($169)
CO ($63.80)
BTN ($167)

Dealt to Hero 8 K

fold, CO raises to $3, fold, Hero raises to $8, fold, CO calls $5

FLOP ($17) 3 8 T

Hero bets $8, CO raises to $55.80 (AI), Hero calls $47.80

villain is 18/12, fold to cbet 70% but very small sample. in my defense i misstook for a different kind of rat breed with a too high open CO/fold to 3bet ratio. this fellow only opens 15% in the CO. I expect no creativity and assume he shoves every pocket, AQ+. I expect his calling range to be like this: AJs-ATs,KQs-KTs,QJs-QTs,JTs,AJo,KQo-KJo,QJo.
assuming he shoves any pair and any flushdraw, my call is -17.7$.
adding QJ for the GSD my call is +5$.
all in all a pretty thin spot that started with messing with a strong range.

Grabbed by Holdem Manager
NL Holdem $1(BB) Replayer
SB ($176)
BB ($112)
CO ($100)
Hero ($101)

Dealt to Hero Q J

fold, Hero raises to $3, SB calls $2.50, fold

FLOP ($7) 3 Q 8

SB checks, Hero bets $5, SB calls $5

TURN ($17) 3 Q 8 7

SB checks, Hero bets $12, SB calls $12

RIVER ($41) 3 Q 8 7 9

SB checks, Hero checks

villain is 70/15, 8% 3bet, fold to cbet 40%, checkraise 10% fold to 2nd barrel 25%

I went over his database and found out that hes pretty straightforward with his 3betting range.
as for slowplays I could see that he would always raise or checkraise with 2 pair (even on a super dry board with a shallow stack), he would always slowplay trips till the turn and all better hands till the river. unfortunately theres no data about his river checkraise, other than that its 0/7. I didnt have a hand either where he called 2 barrels and then donked the river.

to begin with i give him 70% and deduct that: AA-99,AKs-A9s,KQs,AKo-AJo (7,2%)
I assume he calls 2 barrels with any pair and any GSD+/flushdraw. he raises 2pair on the flop and trips+2pair on the turn.
On the river I assume he calls with 3rd pair+, and checkraises straight/flush, obv im folding to a checkraise.
EV check: 30$
EV bet 28$: 37$
I think theres also some chance, that he leads out with a better hand, which makes my bet better.

video 1: Blah and the fiend EP 5:
400nl
Hero is dealt 8 9 in the BB
BTN minraises, hero calls
flop: 2 T 3
hero checkraises: FF says thats pretty sweet, bc people have such a wide range when cbetting here after a BTN open, so we already fold out garbage that has EQ, and we can barrel the turn to fold out a lot of overcard peels
turn: 3
hero bets, villain folds

video 2: blah and the fiend EP6

600nl
hero is BTN with A A
hero opens btn, BB calls
flop: 3 8 4
villain checks, hero bets, villain calls
turn: 6
FF says this is a great spot for an overbet as bluff with draws. villain can fold a lot of pairs and draws. for value its good because villain will call an 8 to an overbet.

weeks 2 is on, this time heading for 7 days of grind and more strategy. since ive been running like a horses ass for quite a while, I busted most of what I had left of my roll and decided to go on a stake. I could have tried to grind it up with savings and microstakes, but my mindset was shattered with no hope of improving anytime soon, so the stake should be +EV.
so far its been going great. not really winning but im bringing my A-game to the tables, and thats what matters.

Im gonna try to spice things up a bit by posting random pics of my past journeys with most posts:

this one was my first office in the dominican republic. not because it was so nice, but because the beach bar was the best available internet there. needles to say it caused quite some funny scenes when I had public tilt outbursts. At least I could walk straight into the ocean and cool my head off.
