Dropping down in stakes might also depend on your reason for playing poker. Does "fun" factor into it at all? If so, then it shouldn't be any big deal dropping down in stakes.

Course if it's all about the money, then dropping down might defeat the purpose. But not if your bankroll is taking a huge hit that you'll have a hard time recovering from (although with your job I'm guessing it's easy enough to replenish).

Nah poker is mostly about money for me. However I am glad that there is a "fun"/"interesting"/"challenging" aspect there to keep me at it and choose this over another part time job.

My job doesnt pay that much (it "pays in experience") so really i am more pro but with semi-pro hours. It's more of a psychological than financial cushion ("well if i find out i really suck at poker then at least i can fall back onto my career") so how i do in poker does have a pretty big impact.

Okay im at like 75 hours this month

Had plans to go to montreal so im thinking of putting in at least the last 5 or so hours (monthly goal of 80) this weekend at Playground

If this doesnt go well then im seriously taking the next week off.

I just have never been the type to sit on my ass and not do something

First weekend in about 3 months that I played zero poker. Took a break and flew to montreal for some r&r... resisted playing at playground.. eating macaroons in bed is so much nicer..

Spoiler:

Said macaroons:

Sunset stroll (quebec city)

Urgh i want to move here but I dont speak any french. It's worth it for the food and drinks alone.

Oh and as for the mayo ketchup debate in the chat thread a while ago.. guess how they serve their fries here?

Would love to stay here for longer and not going back to face my downswing but it's back to the grind tomorrow

Nice update.

My guess is 50% ketchup 50% mayo mix.

I don't think I've ever actually had it. I'm trying to cut down on my heart attack inducing food.

Boohoohoo! Just had my life time worst month to date both in terms of bbs and $ lost. Down like almost 5k over 75 hours (but may be expected as im playing in bigger & deeper games), there was a straight drop of like 10k in the last two weeks and thank goodness i ran good at the beginning of the month so it wasnt too horrible overall. I didn't hit my target of 80 hours either but was close still played more than I expected to as it was a pretty busy month for me.

I'm pretty grateful for the encouragement and support I got from people through this. You know who you are and you are awesome! <3 Now let's all sunrun together next month lol.

And also I guess another silver lining is that this downswing is causing me to be much more critical of myself, as I am questioning every hand and being more motivated to learn lots. I mean, im doing that anyways win or lose, but it's only natural to not question the hands you win as much when you are running good overall right? So in a way this downswing is definitely contributing to my future EV by reducing mistakes when im running good again. (Hey it's nice to see a win in a loss right?)

(Expected some bbv by now? Well hope you werent disappointed! )

So, so far my hours are
July - 100
August - 120
September - 75

I feel like I fell off the track a bit in September in terms of hours and other life goals (ate kinda crappy, didnt really work out enough). Going to fix that going forward too!

I will also post some hands later. A certain chat poaster who recently spent a lot of time at Parx told me that all I do is post hands I won.. well there are certainly many hands I lost from this month lol.

Guess what everybody! Im such a fish and have just learned the PROPER way to do pot equity (with and without redraws) this month. (The mathematically correct way, not the shortcut way, which's off by a bit). I really shouldnt have been playing as high as I did without even knowing this!

I have the table made and will be memorizing it like it's the multiplication table
