Good question actually, I often thought of that.
I think very few people who plays those games regularly is 100+bi rolled (For 100/200, 200/400 w/e).
I think even Galfond says he often played 300/600 PLO with like 30BI or something.
If you're only going to play a stake for 10k hands in a year or something, I think you really don't need that many buyins, and especially if you have a stoploss etc... and are willing to move down, you could get away with like 30BI or something. Obviously this is going to be dependent on how comfortable you are with it, as you don't wanna play with 30BI if it's going to affect how you play at that stake.
Actually, Giev, say you are guaranteed the jesus seat on a -40bb/100 fish. The game is 200/400. Your main stakes are 10/20-50/100 (which I guess is your current situation), what is the minimum amount of money (or buy-ins) you would need to have to play in that game ? How much does your decision change by if you have the worst seat on the table ? Or fish is only -20bb/100
