I struggle with this too. Just recently picked up Learned Optimism by Martin Seligman , looks good so far but haven't finished it yet. I was advised to get it by several people and psychologist. Might be interesting to you
I started already to educate myself in this area a bit. Tbh in the past I never was really interested in these kinda of topics. Seems I am getting older . Will defo check it out. Thanks for suggestion.

Very productive week on and off tables. Had some quality study sessions and managed to put in decent volume. After getting destroyed for last few weeks it was nice to be on the positive side of variance.
I adjusted my game vs fish/weaker regs by playing my hands more in a vacuum. 100z player pool is really weird. Nobody is bluffing, but everybody is calling. I took some ridiculous lines with my value hands and got call down with the worst possible bluffcatchers in spots with almost 0 bluffs. Due to working with a solver at some point I started to autopilot a bit and play my range instead my actual hand vs weaker players. Especially having by now a large sample on most regs, there are so many adjustments which can be made preflop as well as postflop.
Outside of poker I started to interest myself for mindset and performance stuff. Would appreciate if anybody has good suggestions for books or youtube videos and is willing to share them. There is a lot of stuff out there, but I kinda feel lost where to start.
I attended last month a webinar with a HS player and the detail with which he analyzed hands was incredible. He took so many factors into consideration, but his thought process was still very logical and simple at any point. It showed me that there is still a lot room for imporvement.
Are you able to say what webinar this was? I thought webinars were a 2013 thing
Good luck anyway mate, read through all of your thread and it's really cool. Definitely a lot further for you to go IMO! gl
Thinking, Fast and Slow is really interesting book. Also I can recommend Deep work by Cal Newport and Switch by Chip and Dan Heath.
GL'!
Thanks mate. Will definitely take a closer look into the books. Deep work was recommended to me already by few people. Hope the grind is treating you well.

Webinars are still a thing I guess in 2020 . The webinar was held by MMASherdog. GL to you, too.
Played and ran poorly. I think I played my weakest poker since starting this thread. Had a really terrible session where I lost something like 8BI´s within 2.5k hands running a 40 WWSF (didn´t know that this was even possible). Reviewed the session and I for sure could have saved 2-3 BI´s which I punted off or called down way too light. But the last few weeks were mentally exhausting.
My seesions in the last few weeks feel like 80% of time I can´t hit any piece of the board and I have to fight for every pot and the other 20% of time when I have a strong hand opponents usually have the nuts. I think this week it defo got to my head because I made some pretty significant mistakes postlop (mostly by calling too wide down and by being too agressive in the wrong spots).
Apart from that volume looks very good. I have studied for 4h running a script for BTN vs BB SRP spots and can say that these 4h were the most effective hours that I have spent in the lab.
Really hope to turn it around next week.
Weekly Graph
Few hands:
H1: vs reg. Having a heart isn´t great, but we still unblock some of his buffs and block KQ/AK.
I made a variance simulator, and compared results with primedope.. on huge sample sizes, the variance is even more brutal than it seems from primedope. If you are interested, pm me your wr and stdev. I can show you some interesting outlier results.

GL in next week!
Yeah I know that primedope is not 100% accurate. I was in a study group where a guy basically did the same as you did and came to the same conclusion.
I mean my downswing in numbers isn't that brutal. I think from peak it is around 27BIs. What frustrates me more is that I now put a lot of time into grinding+studying (for my standards) and apart from last week I play really good poker, but can't manage anything going then on the tables. But thats poker I guess.
Another disappointing week. Compared to last 2 weeks I played decent, but currently it feels like my opponents can´t miss the board. A lot of my bluffs get caught and the times that I have a hand I get coolered or they just fold.
As far as the month goes, volume + off table work looks very good. Hope to catch some heat until end of month to save $ wise at least a bit this month.
I am planning to go on vacation in August and have a lot of stuff to finish until then. So I need to try to structure my days a bit better to put in some decent volume until August.
Played solid volume considering that I had to finish a lot of stuff before going on vacation. Week started very bad but managed to turn it around. My quality of play was much better than the last few weeks. August is mentally tough. I played ok-ish, volume looks good, put in a lot hours into study but ran very poorly. However, I am still struggling to keep my focus on things which are under my control. People always say focus on the process but when you are getting crushed every day it sounds way easier than it is. Something which I defo need to work on.
Despite not playing 40k+ hands I am very happy with the volume this months. I am going on vacation in August and I was therefore very busy with work. Had a lot stuff to finish for my projects.
[x] Off-table work for 15h+.
Studied for 22 hours and can for sure say these were the most beneficial/effective hours I ever put into studying.
[] Mental game & "soft" skills:
Check results just once per week
Focus on things which you can contol and get better in regards to dealing with variance
Optimize grinding & study days respective time management
Failed hard at most of these goals. I ran terrible for 3 weeks and my mental game is still very sensitive to these kind of run bads. Defo an area in which I could make the most improvement respective my WR.
[x] Update blog once a week.
Updated blog on regular basis.
Life Goals:
[x] Go for a run 15 times. 3/15 runs should be 12km distance.
[x] Continue with cooking.
Started really to enjoy cooking. The only positive thing for me caused by the pandemic.
[x] Get into a better and more optimistic mindset.
Was in a way better mindest than in June. At the end of the month I struggled a bit due to having to plan my vacation but seeing slowly countries going back to some of the previous restrictions.
I will try to go hard in July since I will probably take vacation in August/September. After a difficult June I think this month will be a crucial one for me. In the past I struggled to come back after downswings.
I bought a white board and will use it to break down my weekly tasks/goals. Hope that with this I can be more productive and stick to positive habits. Seeing the goals in front of me should motivate me hopefully. Not letting negative emotions come over me during run bads is something I struggled always. This month I am hoping that with structured, organized and productive daily routines I can minimize it and not measure my success in poker always based on my latest results.
Another thing when it comes to poker is that I should take more time when making decisions in game. I am already solid in regards to this (explains my low hands/hour), but I think I can still improve. I attended last month a webinar with a HS player and the detail with which he analyzed hands was incredible. He took so many factors into consideration, but his thought process was still very logical and simple at any point. It showed me that there is still a lot room for imporvement.
Outside of poker I really hope to get into a better mindset. I felt quite a lot frustrated in June. A big reason for this is also the situation caused by covid. I live abroad and not beeing able to see family, friends but mostly my parents started to effect me in June.
I wish everyone a nice July!
Let´s crush this month in every aspect.
Monthly Graph
$ wise a disappointing month. Evaluating my game feels in months like this very difficult. Staying objective when you experience both ends of variance extremely, makes it difficult to stay objective. Only the few first days I can say that I played my A game. After that I ran for 3 weeks very bad. But I wouldn´t say I played bad. However, I also wouldn´t say it was my best game that I can bring to the tables. The last few days then saved the month but saying I played great doesn´t sound right when you flop a set every second hand. Sometimes I think it only matters how you run at this game.
I am going on a longer vacation in August and I will put the blog on hold for August/September. Might play some low volume during this time but nothing worth updating the blog on regular basis. In the post below you can find my YTD results.
Wish u guys all the best. Enjoy the summer, stay safe and GL at the tables!
Nice results man - looks like you've made a ton of progress since you started this thread! It's always nice to see another example of hard work paying off (even if variance hasn't been on your good side). Enjoy the time off, you've definitely earned it.

Thanks mate. I think I improved quite a bit this year. Would love to have more time for study but with a full time job it is difficult.

Yeah variance can be brutal man. I can unsterstand you. At some point everybody needs to ask himself if it is worth the time and effort. Hope you take the right decision for yourself. Gl.
