Yeah, I'm probably opinionated on that one (probably all of them). I should've said "Based on my experience ...." on my post. My rationale was that unless you have money to buy a house in cash, you're always paying someone to live whether it be to a landlord or bank (in the form of mortgage interest) + maintenance. Also there are so many things that needs to be taken care of with owning a home. Obviously there are pros of home ownership but renting seems to be a very fine option for me at this time of my life (33, married, have 1 kid). If I could go back in time, I would just dump the down payment in index fund and still rent my old tiny 1 bedroom apt until I cant bear it anymore=)
