Hey all,

I have a fascination with poker, and games in general. I am a NLHE microstakes 6max NL5 player, and I've ground 2x$20 deposits into $255. I am a purely recreational player, no dreams of going pro or anything here. I play 2-4 tables max, but I get bored with the grind.

I am fascinated with the idea of 8-game mix rewarding a good all round poker player, and I'm hoping that the diverse skill set will help me hunt fish in any game I feel like playing

I also love the fact that the limit games seem less popular/less well practiced than NLHE. Hopefully this should lend some interest/diversity to the log as well.

At this point in time, I barely know the rules of the components of the mix games And I don't think I am quite rolled for the smallest mix game. So my plan is to start learning the individual games, then bring it together once my BR and skill set are up to the task. This log will be the chronicling of that journey.

The list of games I would like to learn
*Limit HE
*Stud
*Stud 8
*PLO
*FLO8
*PLO8
*Razz
*Badugi
*2-7 Triple Draw

I'll be hoping to mix in some soft donkaments of the above at some point too.

So which game should I focus on first?

There is no tracking software for these limit games right? That makes it even more attractive, and I won't check my graph all the time

Let's go!

Reading Super System 2 at the moment. I've also read Hwangs big play PLO book. I think I will need to reread it though to really apply the concepts.

Ok so first game I've been looking into is 2-7TD. I'm still donking around at the lowest stakes 10/20c on stars. I've read SS2 and tried to put in together a positional preflop hand chart.

Premium Rule: Don't leave the gate without a deuce so you are drawing from the bottom up/drawing smooth

Early Position
• Pat 7 and 8
• One card deuce low 7 and 8 draws
• 2 card 7 draws with no straight potential and a deuce

Middle Position
• As above plus good 2 card 8 draws (with a deuce and no 6)

Late Position
• As above plus other 2 card 8 draws (3 low with no 6)
• Any 2 card 7 lo draws w/ no straight potential
• Any 2-7 3 card draws (excluding 2-6)
• 3bet any hand you intend to play with a raise in front
• 7 and 8 pat hands
• 1 card 7 draws
• good 2 card 7 draws i.e. 2-3-7, 2-3-4

Small Blind
• As EP if multiway
• If vs BB then as per MP plus 3 card draws from late position

Big Blind
• Call 1 bet with anything remotely playable due to good pot odds down to 3 card draws any cards from 2-7

Hey all!

Had my first session of 2-7TD! It went well I guess, I ended up winning like 3BB over maybe 50 hands? lol. It was enough for me to get a taste and run into some spots and apply what I had read.

Pre Draw: (1.5 SB) Hero is UTG with Q 7 4 4 2
Hero raises, MP folds, CO folds, BTN folds, SB folds, BB calls

First Draw: (4.5 SB) (2 players)
BB draws 4, Hero draws 2
Hand: J 9 7 4 2
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls

Second Draw: (3.25 BB) (2 players)
BB draws 3, Hero draws 1
Hand: 9 8 7 4 2
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls

Third Draw: (5.25 BB) (2 players)
BB draws 2, Hero stands pat
Hand: 9 8 7 4 2
BB bets, Hero calls

Obv villain is pretty fishy when he calls OOP and draws 4 I'm 99% patting the 9 here OTR is super standard after he drew 3 and I can't get away when he leads the river even though he probably doesn't show up with worse very often.

My main question here is should I draw to the 742 on the 2nd draw? Esp after he draws 4?

Poker Stars $0.10/$0.20 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball - 5 players

Pre Draw: (1.5 SB) Hero is BTN with A 5 4 3 2
UTG calls, CO calls, Hero raises, SB folds, BB calls, UTG calls, CO calls

First Draw: (8.5 SB) (4 players)
BB draws 3, UTG draws 2, CO draws 2, Hero draws 1
Hand: 7 5 4 3 2
BB checks, UTG checks, CO checks, Hero bets, BB folds, UTG calls, CO calls

Second Draw: (5.75 BB) (3 players)
UTG draws 1, CO draws 1, Hero stands pat
Hand: 7 5 4 3 2
UTG checks, CO checks, Hero bets, UTG folds, CO raises, Hero 3-bets, CO calls

Third Draw: (11.75 BB) (2 players)
CO stands pat, Hero stands pat
Hand: 7 5 4 3 2
CO checks, Hero bets, CO folds

Pre: obv this is a pretty big hand pre, as I can make number 1 or number 5 and a decent 9 some of the time.

1st draw I hit gin and bet because we are multiway so I am never slow playing this right? Gotta get that value?

2nd draw it starts to get interesting. When CO x/r after drawing 1 multiway he could be snowing. I think calling is best here if UTG was still in the pot but he folded to my initial bet. I 3bet for value while he thinks he still might be able to draw live to a worse 7.

When he stands pat on the 3rd I get super confused. He wasn't snowing else he would have drawn or folded on 2nd. So he must have some kind of decent hand. I bet and he folds.

This made me wonder, if he can have a value x/r hand here flatting the turn looks better. Maybe I should flat turn and raise river as he will probably lead into me? So confusing

UNLESS! He has a weak 7 or strong 8 and he is trying to get me to break. That makes sense! In which case 3betting is clearly the better option.

Thanks!

The idea of someone picking up strat off me at this stage is pretty laughable But I can only improve from knowing nothing right? I think mix games MTTs will be crucial in my early mix game career because for a low buy in I can get my feet wet with the rotations and a number of different spots. Plus the action is more likely to be guaranteed compared to the draw/stud cash games (this could actually be a pretty big deal in the future, lack of games running).

As someone who has branched from PLO into the limit games it is different. TD, I should warn you, is the kind of game that makes PLO look sane - you will have sessions where you miss so many draws to the utter nuts that you will want to throw your pc out of the window.

Re Todd B's S/System - it's a good starting point; however for low stakes play (I play up to $1/$2) it might be a little tight...and the key thing is getting to know who does what...
