I'd say open a thread somewhere, probably BBV (or even PGC if it is allowed here), and tell that to find the daily hand you need to check AWice's PGC thread. You post the daily hand daily here, but guesses only count in the BBV thread. Possibly this could be a problem for the BBV mods, but I doubt it.

The goal of the contest is to promote long term viewership. By this metric the contest is probably very successful, I went from 5k views a day to 10k views a day. However, there is much to be said about keeping the thread clean.

Perhaps you can help suggest how I can structure such a contest, I am still thinking about it. Sorry guys for the delay.
Woohoo.

Why not continue posting the wildcard hand in this thread, but have a separate thread for the guesses? If anyone posts the guess in this thread they're disqualified.

Keeps this thread really active, but also keeps the wildcard game going and there will be another active thread.

*edit: Just realised I basically just repeated what bbfg said

Or... did you say you have a blog?

The wildcard hand could be put in here but the answers could be put in the comments of the blog, along with the persons 2+2 name, then you announce the winner in this thread. Then you're keeping your blog active AND this thread.

Would you guys prefer daily updates or weekly updates?

Would you prefer contests daily or weekly? Imagine the $EV remains the same, eg. I could choose either to give $50 a day or $350 a week.

I am considering having a separate thread just for contest entries; and also I am considering a change to a weekly format where the winner just wins a prize straight up.

Right now the WEEKLY contest format I have in mind is sort of skill based, you have to "play a hand with me" that I actually played over the course of the last 7 days. (For fun, I will choose one hand from each day of that week) For each of 7 hands, there is a multiple choice where you choose to a) fold, b) call, c) raise or whatever and then the person that matched my play closest wins. But I am still trying to iron out details.

Daily, more exciting and gives more people the chance to win.

If the answers are posted somewhere else then nobody has anything to complain about - just include the wildcard hand and the winner in each update.

If you're willing to post graphs/results, I'd say daily updates. A graph or 'played x tourn and won/lost x' is enough imo.

Then you could do a longer post once a week.

About the wild card or other contest, you should continue. People like free money , but perhaps you should do it some where else (blog like someone said).

A minor daily update and then a little more extensive weekly update is probably best. As for the contests I think they really clutter up and create too much distraction in this thread. I'm also not sure what your motivation for the contests are.

Questions
Where did you live in China?

A bunch of places but mostly Fuzhou. There are very few foreigners and the city is relatively small even though there are 7m people or so. It took me a long time to get acclimated where I essentially did **** all, but after, the place is awesome in many ways. No last call, any food on delivery, easy to meet people. Back then the yuan was more depressed so money went a lot farther too than it would today. Typical day was like, get bottle service (10pm), get hot pot (2-3am), after hours karaoke (4am), wake up (5pm). Most of my friends either were entertainers (djs/singers/dancers/hostesses) or directly worked in clubs as few people would go out 6+ nights a week. When you came into a club the owner/GM would always come out to greet you personally and drink with you for a bit, and the girl guy ratio in our group was always atleast 3:1.

Note
I think this thread functions best when I rant / talk about various issues, still looking for ways to weasel that in. Also I am still exploring weekly contests that don't clutter up this thread. Any ideas please let me know.

Weekly contests are really good and think the play a hand with you idea is great aswell if its not too complicated.

Also daily updates are best imo.

Still think you should talk more about your long hardest days, other regs and some hands.

Gl Alex got alot of respect for you.

how about only the first 10 answers count for the challenge

you'll have to make more calls on 'closest', but everyone's ev should still be the same and it'll be less stuffed in the thread

Cool I lived in Shanghai 2010-11 and also currently live in TO (originally from Scotland). I found that bars and clubs were ridiculously overpriced, I called it the 'Western tax' since Westerners were their target customers. Like a bottle of beer was 25 cents in the shop and the same bottle $5 in a bar... Could be just Shanghai though as I found it to be a Westerner/Chinese rich kids hunting ground. I assume your Mandarin must be decent then? Mine is non-existant but my gf's (from TO) is good as she was studying there. Why on earth did you decide to move to Fuzhou of all places??

PS. What percentage of people do you estimate who are reading this and reading the Fuzhou as 'Foo-Zoo' ?
