MouldyOnions has only played 70 of the 714s according to Sharkscope for 5390 VPPs. Also the $357s aren't running as much as last year, none running right now.

These are all challenges that hopefully will erode in time.

But most importantly, to really go after first SNE requires me to play at a pace I am not comfortable with in order to make up for these disadvantages. For example, even in just the race to SN, I played probably 30% more SNGs than MO. I would rather play "slow and steady" making $ instead of vpp. I am still playing every day, and plan to play the pace that I feel comfortable and happy with, and that is providing me the most stable and largest annual income, and lets me grow as both an individual and poker player.

From talking to MO, I believe I am the only player with an EVroi comparable to his in 200s. I am humbled that people compare me to the current best player that plays SNGs, but I feel it is unfair to diminish what I do by such a comparison. I want to discourage new regulars from taking up the game -- hypers are already a reg-laden game (and if higher hypers are a future reality, this will become an even bigger issue.) Poker is an inefficient market, and therefore obfuscating just how long it takes to study hypers to proficiency and how much you can make an hour at them probably actually does stymie market forces.

That being said, the SNE chase is still a reality, but it's just one chapter of a larger story. I would not be disappointed if MO won as I consider him a friend and the prize is more fitting to him anyways (he can better utilize the 2x vpp, and he doesn't appear on a playing card yet.) I think in terms of monetary value of the prize, both of us do not care about that. The value of the prize is the recognition of our achievements, and that will continue past January and come many times throughout the year as things develop.
info for the guys asking why hes fallen behind

Either AW has given up or is doing some massive studying sessions, he seems to have barely played over the weekend peak hours... Hopefully hear something today!
Actually, there have been no games during weekend hours, I have been getting only half as many vpp/h and roughly half the tables.

Moderation

Since my last update, I was on the worst downswing of my career. The future weeks didn't change anything as I ran below EV 6 out of the 7 days. However, rb caught up and put me in the black for the year, even though I am still "owed" many, many Sklansky bucks. I think I am soon at a cusp where after January, I won't care about running below or above EV too much. 30k games a month is a lot.

Of course, variance doesn't have a memory, and neither do good habits, it seems. A few days ago, I stayed up too late, which put me in a deep spiral where I was more tired, exercising less, playing less, and eating much worse. Always playing catch-up -- and all of these things feed on each other. It put me way off track. I forgot about why I was doing this. I forgot how fast things have moved. 3k vpp used to be hard, and now the ~15k pace I have been playing at deeply disappoints me. I put my life on cruise control instead of staying on the ball, with disastrous results.

However, it's always about getting back on the horse, not about how long you can stay on. Today I went to a family dinner and re-remembered why. Tomorrow I hope to resume the plan. I know if I follow through, good things can happen, both financially and with the rest of my life. So that's where things are going.

Family's thoughts on your mission? (if not too personal a question)

this.

also, what do you say when the topic of what you're doing comes up? I can't imagine explaining it is easy. It's hard enough for people to say they play poker full time, let alone aiming for 8m vpps.

good luck alex.

Family:
support me, don't see anything wrong w what I'm doing, likely happy that I am doing something

Explanation to others:
Simple, I just don't explain what I am doing. Maybe I just say that I am playing poker. Since I am not going outside very much this year, there isn't really any impetus for me to explain anything. Also I don't really want to explain -- people would either think I am lying/delusional about my hourly, or it would grossly alienate them. Even people with a background in math would need some convincing if I showed them my EV line, and I don't really care to convince anyone. (I'll let baby blue handle that in time.)

Whats your process for reviewing hand histories and studying ?

Do you use an automated tool to find your own leaks and/or leaks of other regs in the mass of data you collect ?

good luck with this btw Awice

original video or first video posted eric thomas is an awesome speaker and the speach made in both videos is one of the best I've heard.

I also like this video for those looking for a little motivation booster...

Satties: not currently but I will re-evaluate after a while.

Motivational video: Meh I view a lot of these like tony robbins pep talks where everyone is supposed to get rah rah riled up but then everyone leaves the seminar room and goes back to jerking off.

Eyewear: gunnar halogen onyx, I think the "lesser" gunnar models drop off significantly in quality. I don't really endorse gunnar products in general as I think they are overpriced/hype but there aren't that many products on the market and they do help me so I am willing to support that company.

Gloves: I have tried a number of gloves but what works best for me are some ****ty "sock" style cotton mittens with the fingers and thumbs cut out and folded over.

Graphs: bonus graph coming up
