Saw some posts and figured I start one since I believe I am turning a corner in my poker career. I'm mostly a online player with some live experience. I usually want to go play more live poker but due to me having a wife and 1 kid I am mostly playing online. I live in the northeast of the USA so limited to the usual offshore sites so ACR is my pick. I am a cash game player so I am in the 10z streets and looking to plan on playing 25NL when I have the bankroll for which should in sometime in late August/September, even then I will still play mostly 10z. My goals here is to generally be a better poker player and to have a place where people and analyze my play as I progress throughout the year.
I wanted to start by me giving my general thoughts from this year current. The below is my current graph.
Pretty happy with the results so far. Around the mid year point I took a step back to reorganized my ranges due to the rake. It started to turn around from me and I was able to get back 13-16 buyins back in 25K hands ( I realized how important the rake structure is in these games, it surprises me how this is not emphasized enough). Started to questions some other things, the main one was my red line is terrible. Dove into it more and realized I play terribly from the SB & BB. Here are the graphs per position starting from UTG to BB.
UTG-CO I think are pretty good, there is always room for improvement but at this point there's no major fundamental thing I need to change.
BU is some what of a worry. Good news is that I'm pretty good stealing the blinds. Bad news is it looks like I can't get any value from the position. I have to look back at some hands and see where I'm going wrong but to me it seems I need to get more value in position considering it should be my highest BB/HR rate out of all of them.
SB&BB is where I see a major major leak. I understand that starting from the SB &BB you lose the amount that you post but it just seems I'm leaking money. Recently tried to defend it more vigorously but I hope some of my hand histories can explain what am I doing wrong. Also if anyone has any resources/materials to how to generally play these positions that would be great.
That's basically it. I have PT4 so if anyone wants to see more stats I can filter whatever if anyone is interested. I usually play 1K hands sessions when I can and will update with some hand histories and some update to date graphs. Thanks and I appreciate all the feedback I get, I hope this is fun and entertaining and not dull.
Generally want to play passively on monotone boards so you could maybe size down on the flop, certainly no need to overbet turn as you’re not getting worse to call. What size would you use with A3s here on the turn? Then think about your Qx.
Alrighty played a quick 500 hand session. I didn't mention it but I usually play between 2 or 4 tables of zoom but recently I've been 4 tabling. 10z lost ($1.55) but some hands came up. When I post the hands I will comment on the bottom.
fold, fold, Hero raises to 2.5 BB, fold, fold, BB raises to 11 BB, Hero raises to 26 BB, BB raises to 137.3 BB and is all-in, Hero calls 74 BB and is all-in
These spots I tend to struggle with but I started to just call and clinched my butthole. QQ is probably the minimum I would call, I posted the stats of the player, seems aggressive but 100 hands means nothing. Called and prayed.
Turn:(45.3 BB, 2 players) K Hero checks, CO checks
River:(45.3 BB, 2 players) 9 Hero checks, CO bets 53.1 BB and is all-in, Hero calls 53.1 BB
Spoiler:
Hero shows 4 K (One Pair, Kings)
(Pre 31%, Flop 22%, Turn 14%) CO shows T K (One Pair, Kings)
(Pre 69%, Flop 78%, Turn 86%) CO wins 144 BB
I think what I'm bad at is recognizing short stacks at tables. Theoretical I can start raising some K4s and in my preflop charts I raise half the time. On the flop with a dry board I can represent premium pairs and J's so I elected to go half the pot, I thought about 2/3 but did half instead and got called. Turned top pair but weak kicker so no value to be found. I checked and he checks back. I check again for showdown and he shoves for the remainder of his stack. I really didn't think about his range here cause I can't imagine what he could be calling with on the flop and then checking down the turn with.
Played about 825 hands of 10z last night, lost 3.5 buy ins, mix of things not going my way and mistakes. Some hands of note (again commentary will be at the bottom of the hand).
River:(86.4 BB, 2 players) Q SB bets 221.5 BB and is all-in, Hero calls 86.1 BB and is all-in
Spoiler:
Hero shows J J (Three of a Kind, Jacks)
(Pre 72%, Flop 97%, Turn 91%) SB shows T A (Straight, Ace High)
(Pre 28%, Flop 3%, Turn 9%) SB wins 245.7 BB
Preflop I think I misplayed here, I should 4 bet in this spot most of the time. Flop I hit top set, he bets a 1/3 bot and no need to raise. Turn comes a Kh, he bets little over half and I call. Again I think I misplayed here, I was worried about him having KK but I can see him also betting Kx, draws and over pair. All in I would think is the move. River is probbaly the worst card in the deck. Again even tho I have a set only needing 33% equity, flush gets there, KK and QQ get there, Ah10h gets there. Not a lot of worse hands he can get it in with. I elected to call out of frustrating but looking back at it now it seems to be a fold. When trying to put this into GTO wizard, im always betting JJ so can't tell if i would call on the river but 55 and 33 sees a call with like 20% equity required, still think I should of fold.
Turn:(58 BB, 2 players) 3 Hero bets 71.5 BB and is all-in, BTN calls 71.5 BB
River:(201 BB, 2 players) 9
Spoiler:
BTN shows T A (One Pair, Tens)
(Pre 25%, Flop 82%, Turn 73%) Hero shows A K (High Card, Ace)
(Pre 75%, Flop 18%, Turn 27%) BTN wins 191 BB
On the flop my usual strat is to bet 2/3 the pot when the board is dry to try and rep premium pairs so I can bet hands like AK and AQ. GTO says this spot I bet can 2/3 half the time, bet 1/3 some times and check about 40%. Need to start mixing some checks sometimes not sure how to proceed with that.
On the turn thought it was good for me to jam here. Again try to represent JJ+ and if I get called I have a good amount of outs. To my surprise GTO likes to check 99% of the time here. I would assume here I could jam but digging deeper it does make sense to check. I'm never going to have the nuts here due to the board having low cards so over betting the pot is a mistake. Trying to bluff on a board that's not in your favor is not a good strategy lmao.
Played 1.3K hands on 6/25, got smoked for another 3.5 BI's. Pretty aggravating session. Can't get anyone to call my values hands but seems like players were getting value from me. Redline continues to be an issue, just taking a nose dive the past 2 sessions. Ran into aces with AK. Lost a flip with AK vs JJ. Play this hand with KTo, GTO wizard said my river call is correct but curious if this is so in 10z. Also last hand I played a weird one with KQs, not sure if it was a punt or not.
River:(63.5 BB, 2 players) 6 Hero checks, CO bets 70 BB and is all-in, Hero calls 70 BB
Spoiler:
Hero shows K T (Two Pair, Kings and Sixes)
(Pre 25%, Flop 13%, Turn 7%) CO shows K A (Two Pair, Kings and Sixes)
(Pre 75%, Flop 87%, Turn 93%) CO wins 193.4 BB
KQs hand why not just call turn and jam rivers where you hit. You have no fold equity with that SPR.
Yeah at the time thought it would be awkward to just call so with the equity I had I figure I jam but as you said the calling odds for the v’s are nothing and are calling regardless
Played another session, again down 3 BI's. I was put over the edge tonight again seems there's no value to be found and really got into some uncomfortable spots. Feels like I get hands that are worth a showdown but I just end up running into the very very top of my opponents range and its frustrating. I don't want to sit round 10z tables playing a 7/5/4 strategy but it's starting look more appealing every time I start playing.
Another hand I felt I had to talk myself into a fold.
Probably not going to play for the rest of the week considering I punted off 10 BI's in three days. I have a job interview Wednesday and going to be busy with work the rest of the week so I'm just going to finish up with a monthly summary starting now until the end of the year. Still a lot of things to work on but this month seemed to be summed but by hardly getting any value from my value hands and giving away cash via red line. I can argue that I did a pretty good job in the BB this month but SB with a terrible BB of -44/100. Still not making enough money from the BU not sure what I'm going wrong but probably going to go into the lab in July and take a look at some hands. my BB rate should be like 20's-30's and not 8.
Just wanted to get in an update, so after my post I decided to play and lost another 6 BI's. Pretty bad results but wanted to update the graph.
Still need to work on some things but after playing some sessions in July I'm up about 3 BI's so once I have some time I can swing back with some hands.
Really trying the next half of the year to not call off big bets with top pair hands and going to start paying attention more to the 3B/4B stats when facing nits.
This hand is probably a tight example of folding top pair mediocre kicker to tight players. From a raise at the HJ position I have this as a 100% a call. Flop is standard it think, don't need to raise with the board this dry and having a T kicker. Turn I call, same deal I don't think there's no need to raise. I check then he best out 23BB. I was really tempted to fold this hand. I know that there's only once Ace out there in the deck but it was so hard to find what else he was betting with. Don't see 23, 44,55. He could bet a flushing draw but holding Th I'm blocking some stuff. Checked GTO wizard and it looks like it calls down any A on the river. This might be a bad example of hands that "Need to flop big bets to" but holding an A I decide to call.
Hero shows T A (Three of a Kind, Aces)
(Pre 27%, Flop 14%, Turn 14%) MP shows A K (Three of a Kind, Aces)
(Pre 73%, Flop 86%, Turn 86%) MP wins 69.9 BB
Good fold. I don't think we'll be ahead more than once out of two here.
Thanks, yeah mostly folding this regardless, this is never a bluff at 10Z but in GTO land AJ is mostly a fold while other 2 pair hands like A3,A2, and A8 are mostly calls cause I block his value range with these combos while AJ doesn't.
Checking with my review for the month in July. Pretty excited to say that I think I had my most profitable month every playing 6 max cash games. Coming in with 20K hands with a win rate of about 7BB an hour. One of the days that I played during this month I think I was up about 6-7 BI's.
I think about going back to some of my points I was trying to improve on in some of these pasts posts. Main points was stop trying to call of V's big bets with bad hands and going for value more often.
I don't really have too much hands to note on but I can share some I found interesting.
River:(76.5 BB, 2 players) 4 MP checks, Hero bets 142.2 BB and is all-in, MP calls 142.2 BB
Spoiler:
Hero shows Q A (Four of a Kind, Twos)
(Pre 64%, Flop 76%, Turn 97%) MP shows T K (Four of a Kind, Twos)
(Pre 36%, Flop 24%, Turn 3%) Hero wins 342.9 BB
This hands was pretty funny, on the river I figured screw it might as will go all in with an A and see what happens, he called with K high lol.
His donk be for the pot felt a little odds, basically losing to a weird played higher pair or he called my 3 bet with 88 or with some 5. Shoved for value and he called.
fold, fold, CO raises to 2.2 BB, fold, fold, Hero calls 1.2 BB
Flop:(4.9 BB, 2 players) 6 T 7 Hero checks, CO bets 3.6 BB, Hero raises to 11.5 BB, CO raises to 30 BB, Hero raises to 80.8 BB, CO raises to 258.4 BB and is all-in, Hero calls 132.4 BB and is all-in
Turn:(431.3 BB, 2 players) K
River:(431.3 BB, 2 players) 8
Spoiler:
Hero shows 9 8 (Straight, Ten High)
(Pre 50%, Flop 32%, Turn 40%) CO shows 8 9 (Straight, Ten High)
(Pre 50%, Flop 68%, Turn 60%) Hero wins 204.9 BB CO wins 204.9 BB
