Microstakes Challange - Breaking the Tilt Cycle Microstakes Challange - Breaking the Tilt Cycle

Hello everybody,

After busting my bankroll after playing badly, tilting and running bad under EV i will start a challange here to keep myself accountable and motivated. This will include certain Poker goals, but also some daily goals. After depositing 20$ i ran it up to 40$, but than started playing bad and also ran 20$ under EV so now I only have 4$ left so i might have to deposit again, but for now i will foolishly continue with this meager amount in my account (I might include some pictures the next time).

Poker:

- I will start a challange to play 4 hours of 1cent/2cent NL on Pokerstars daily.
- Longer Term Goal is to beat the lowest games for 10BB/100 (I Think 5bb is possible, but 10 might be a bit ambitous) and to grind the roll up to 150$
- at least 1/2 hour of Poker study (Reading, Watching videos etc.) while taking notes
- Concrete: Do not call to much with hands like TPTK, two pairs etc. when I get raised aggressively by decent players, take longer to make decisions in bigger hands to prevent mindless button clicking, play tight preflop...
- look at Hands I didnīt play well from yesterday before each session (and post some here)

Daily Goals:

- Meditate after waking up for 5 min (and slowly increase the time up to 10 Minutes)
- some Sport and/or Stretching every day
-donīt hit the snooze button
- other stuff i might add

Letīs get this thing started

Nice goals. Before I kept breaking the cycle of redepositing I changed my goals from "build my roll" to "get better at poker". GL man

Thanks for the comment. I agree that might be a better goal to set.

Last session didnīt go very well and i had to put up some more money. Played more or less okay but had bad results. Biggest loosing pots were mainly coolers, one of which i played badly (again i need to take more time in big pots).

Watched a video on how to play preflop and finished a short ebook and poker math so thatīs good. Hope the weekend goes well and I might might give an update on Monday.

Thank you ExpectedV.

Still not playing very good. I think i got a bit to scared and therefore have not c-bet enough lately. In the spoiler is a picture of my horrible results. As a result i want to play max. 4 Tables and maybe take shorter sessions when Iīm not playing well. I will also try to educate myself more on c-bets for now.

Some light at the end of the tunnel

The last few sessions were actually EV+ which is nice. Volume declined because of social gatherings and good weather, but less long sessions seem to help me play more disciplined.

One hand I played:

Some of my thoughts on the hand:

    Spoiler:
Really don't like how I played this one. I Should probably raise bigger preflop. Cbet seems standard?

On the Turn I'm worried that I don't get called by worse hands because Overpairs (KK,AA), Sets (especially JJ), weird two pairs (to be fair there Flush draws and some straight draw combos), therefore I checked, but in hindsight i probably just chickened out.

On the River I seriously thought a long time about actually folding (I finally take a bit more time in bigger pots), but think that I'm kind of underrepresented and that he could maybe have some busted draws he bluffs with?

In my opinion you had a value bet on the turn, I believe mp could reach on the turn and call another bet with some Jx who had backdoor otf (or maybe even Jx who where just two overcards), second pairs, flushdrawns

            Spoiler:
I will try to include some winning hands next time too, but so far not loosing big pots has been a bigger leak than getting value . The Last 2 hands are nearly identical, I probably shouldn't play those that agressively on the River. All the hands played are more or less coolers, but I still think i lost way to much against most player types in these situations.

            Little Update and some Hands

I really feel like I'm getting somewhat better. Have been reading a little theory every day and (most of the time) take more time to make decisions and look at pots I played the previous day. That beeing said I did have the worst sessions yesterday in a long time (-8,50$ or more than 4 Buy-Ins). I think I just called too much in big pots with mediocre hands preflop and a bit on the flop (those were Ante games).

Long time no update. Took some time of lately from poker after unsatisfying results. Soon will be at the 150k hands mark and post a graph and at least 1 hand I found interesting (somehow I don't remember how to use the hand history converter right so I'm unable to post it now).

                Cheers.

                Hey,

Little Update: Annonyingly I don't remember how I got to make a picture of the results in Hand2Note, so you will just have to take my word for the results so far (not that they would be unrealistic lol). Played 200.000 Hands and made 2.4 big blinds/100 mostly playing Full Ring 2nl. I already took a shot at 5nl 9max after the bankroll surpassed 150$ and took a beating.

My Plan is now to switch to 6max and play on 2nl until I think I'm beating these stakes and this format and than to take another shot, the advantage with 6max is that there is a lot more learning material. (I'm thinking about buying Applications for NLH or the Grinders Manual, but moving forward I Won't be able to use a HUD at all, so I will probably try to build a solid strategy first without making to big adjustments. So Applications would be better in that case i guess).

But for the next month or so I will have to grind life a bit, before putting in more volume.

Concrete: Do not call to much with hands like TPTK, two pairs etc. when I get raised aggressively by decent players- Decent players definitely have a bluffing range. I would say to take more time and think about their ranges from position they are in. What hands they are repping and does their betting line make sense, what they think about your range (strong or weak) and if its good spot for them to bluff before you decide to hero fold. I know its micros and a lot of them aren't at that kind of a level but its still good to get into that thinking process as you move up in limits. And not beat yourself up when your wrong. Gl with your goals definitely should get some improvement.

I will give you an example of my thinking process through these 2 hands. So the 2nd hand is fine cause hes gonna raise 2 pair and might over value an Ax hand if hes bad. when he over bet shoves the turn hes obviously a bad 2nl player and it would make no sense for him to shove the nut straight on the turn. If he has a straight its fine don't go into a result oriented thinking of folding sets. It all depends the situation and thinking through it and come up with what you think best decision is.

The first hand soon as I saw the turn shove I said TJ or 33 before I saw the results. You bet twice into multi way pot and barreled the turn. So he knows you got a pretty strong hand so this definitely a shove for value most of the time I would say 90%. This is a spot you have to ask yourself is he ever bluff shoving here on 2 players after you bet into the flop and barrel the turn. Is he capable of doing that. And your holding the Q of diamonds one of the flush blockers that he would be bluffing with if he was a crazy player that wanted to shove QJdd on the turn. Its unlikely unless its Tom Dwan playing 2nl. Or maybe it some guy on tilt. But we cant assume that and barreling twice him shoving I am folding without any reads of him playing draws this kind of way and having that Qd is just more incentive to make me fold here. But don't beat yourself up over losing with 2 pair. It all depends the situation. If your hero folding 2 pair all the time your going to lose a lot of money over the long run and at 2nl they are gonna over value a lot of hands your beating. This one of the few situations I would actually fold 2 pair. Its 3 way he shoves the turn and we look strong betting twice into multi way pot. Its really tough cause your playing 2nl and sometimes your gonna fold and see other 2 players all in with worse. I did it at 4nl quite a few times. And thats just as tilting as hero calling and losing. But just think it through don't just assume 2 pair is no good in holdem. That is much bigger mistake.

                    Thank you @iburydoscocaroaches,

hearing your thought process really helped me to disentangle the subtleties of the hands a bit more and how both differ.

Results have been subpar recentelly, but going from 9max to 6max will take some time and as far as i can tell i ran pretty bad in term of set-ups. Good news is that I can deal much better with that now and am less prone to tilt.

Update: Taking shots at 5nl and going back and forth. Started reading The Grinder Manual while taking notes (which is good so far). Unfortunately I don't have that much time right now for playing/studying. Hopefully in February/March i will have more time to study poker, maybe i will give an update then and try to post more actively hands again.
