Mastering Mental Game and Mental Health
lmao gazzy
Your point aside, that's a pretty poor example given that the cop is acting on a specific description of the suspect in this case. You end up exemplifying the slippery slope the gentlemen above are detailing wrt to slapping these labels on to things too liberally and neglecting a more thorough case to case consideration.
Does the white lady next door call the cops on her white neighbour though?
Does the police office come to the door with his weapon already drawn for a differently described suspect? (Less certain but I strongly suspect not)
Without meaning to be unkind to you (you’ve always been very helpful in the forums actually tbh) I think that response illustrates your own prejudices in trying to dismiss/justify an incident that clearly demonstrates a case of injustice against a person from a minority group. Why can’t you just recognise that this affects such people disproportionately?
That’s all that white privilege is - the many situations where, as a white person, you don’t have to worry about prejudice. In this example, you don’t worry about looking like you’re breaking into your own home, you’re afforded the presumption of innocence, whereas non-white people are not afforded this privilege.
(Apologies in advance if this opens up a can of worms)
My dad is from the UK and my mum migrated to the UK from Mauritius ( a small island in the indian ocean in case you don't know it) for university, and has lived here ever since.
Hope you continue to enjoy the thread!
Ye fair enough man. Obv the whole concept cannot be proven or disproved with a silly hypothetical situation comparing a mere two individuals. Whether it exists or doesn't, it's far too complex for that.
I've spoken with Lucas privately and have asked him to maybe send me a lecture or podcast on the subject. I've heard extensive speeches by Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson and I found their arguments against WP compelling. However, it seems the supporters I've heard haven't been such masterful public speakers / debaters like the two mentioned so it's hardly a fair debate being created in my mind.
If you know of any debates or speeches that I can listen to in favour of WP I'd really like that. Fully open to the possibility I've got it wrong and can be convinced so.

fwiw, I'm working my way through the book and there are numerous bits i wanna quote and post in here, but i'm trying to hold off!
Just a bit of an insight as to why i wanna continue to engage in this topic, is because as mentioned above, my mum is from Mauritius. She's relatively dark skinned - more indian looking. She told me recently that growing up there was a "looking down on" those who had darker skin than her family. Whether or not she consciously believes that she is "better than" those with darker skin (which i know she does not), the internalisation remains nonetheless. I was struck by her openness and reflexivity, along with the years and years of personal work to challenge these belief systems. In turn, I feel compelled to examine my own internalised prejudices that are undeniably there, but my conscious brain doesn't want to believe exist.
I know my example doesn't necessarily capture what we're discussing, but i hope what does make sense, is the reason i feel the need to be open and undefended regarding a topic that is so important for the moving forward of our cultural perceptions.

Don't want to fuel the flames, but this article explains elements of WP pretty well. Also looks at examples whereby WP is confused with class privilege, gender privilege, naturalised citizen privilege, intellect privilege and a number of other things.

Played mainly 200z today. Games were so good but i got stacked at my regular tables (400/600/1k) to break even. On the up though I feel i'm playing very good poker right now, just need to find some traction. It does always come eventually!

Finding unbiased sources on either side is really difficult tbh, so I wouldn’t know what to recommend. Often you have to put up with subjecting yourself to very preachy authors in order to understand the full spectrum of views held on this issue. I would also say that Jordan Peterson is a bit of a charlatan in my opinion so I wouldn’t use him as a benchmark personally hahah
I don't get it?!

I'm not saying you have to be wrong here, just that it's murky and assumptive and therefor disqualified as a clear example. Especially given how ripe the news are with better ones.
I'm guessing no one likes to read my taking issue with wording though so happy to end the derail.
Laughed out loud at this one.

Gunna go grind some live tonight with gazzy. Stuck over 5k for the month and at 11k hands. On pace to probably exceed the 40k hand goal. Got a lot of motivation to grind hard right now, so hopefully can get something going!
glgl
Had a very brutal live session just now. All hands 1/2/5/10 mandatory straddles.
Hand 1
open to 35, call, 3b from rec, I make it 175 otb with AA (we’re 2500 deep) reg makes it 550 out the BB. I call. Flop JQ8 he checks I bet 225 call, turn J x/x river the classic king and he bets 550. I fold. In hindsight this is actually probably a call but I just don’t see a live reg bluffing or betting worse. -750ish here
Hand 2
2500 deep. I open 35 otb AAc gaz call’s small reg calls straddle. Flop 873cc, x x bet 40 fold call, turn 2, check I bet 285 into 185, tank call, river 2ccc he leads 1200 into 785. I tank fold again. -400ish
Hand 3
Same reg as hand 1 opens to 40, huge rec with 5k calls sb I sqz straddle to 225 with QQ. reg calls rec folds. Flop T96ss I bet half he calls. Turn Jx x/x. River 3x. I shove 1150 into 1kish and he tank calls KK. -1750 here.
So overall I lost £2500. Really brutal to get destroyed with unreal nut, but what am I gunna do. Any thoughts on the above would be greatly appreciated.

h1 seems fine but i dont play live. 225 otf is less than 25% though
lost 2 and a half buyins i pray 4 u
h1 don't think i'm ever slowplaying pre super-deep like this without strong read he can blast off a stack (rarey live). guys will call 75s and just do stupid **** some amount of the time pre here ime. h2 think i'd check flop every time. h3 shove turn seems better than shove river
also an option for h2 is the arsehole clencher river shove...

Yea super standard for your typical live reg to cold 5bet w KQ...
#prayforop is for the 50bi, 5 months of losing, not that 2.5bi loss lad

I think you missread the second hand. It was ccx otf, not all clubs? Never checking back AA 3 way on 873 two tone.
Hand 3. D'you not just think we allow him to play perfectly by jamming turn? I guess you assume the protection with blockers is worth it.
I personally don't think so, but i could easily be wrong
haha this

Put in strong volume today and also on the pio grind. Been a very productive day! Mainly 200z, made some hits and finally some bluffs were going through. Still got badbeat numerous times though!

Really? You’re eradicating this possibility because you don’t consider it standard? I didn’t say he definitely had it, just offered the possibility. Bore off.

is the hand with AA a 4bet or 5bet pot? surely you were the 3bettor by sizing. if its a 4bp i would call river and if its 5bp then fold seems a lot more reasonable
AA cbet spot is whatever, probably better to cbet live since people seem to like floating KQ there

Yuh i misread 4b coz of the sizes but even if its 5b I don’t know what size the rec made it but even if he made it off a 35 open 80(still joke small) your size is really small with eff stacks so I can see someone going bananas with a wider range with two small raises in front of him being a possibility. Getting over 3.5 to 1 you don’t need him to be adding many combos ever for it to be a call. But whatever, SpewNL said the most aggressively sarcastic thing in this exchange of conjecture so he must be right.

Sorry yeah I miss typed the action. It was a limp and an iso from the rec to 35 and I 3b to 175. So it was a cold 4b. Agreed with most of the above as I said in my post, in hindsight it’s just a right call otr. I still expect to lose a lot but the price is too good.
Agree with the sentiment of cbetting AA on the 873 live. I wouldn’t dream of not betting such a good hand, although, I should probably bet flop larger.

Sorry if you found my post offensive. Yes it was sarcastic but It wasn't at all aimed personally at you but rather to the idea of villain cold 5betting kq ( as Ben had previously described the action to be). To me it sounds very very unlikely but who knows..
Anyway no harm was intended, apologies if it came out that way.
Where were you playing live poker if I might ask?
