Sick month mate! I do enjoy these updates. I am still building up my roll before i jump into the bottom level but I'm thinking at least 50 Buy ins to start with? Best of luck and lets hope the stars situation gets sorted for you!

Thanks mate!

50 bins sounds like a decent buy in strategy if you know you have an edge at 50z.

I'm back in the Netherlands and I will not return to Malta anymore. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on Malta, made good money and I also improved a lot as a poker player. But in the end, I just really wanted to go back to my normal life here. Unfortunately, that means no poker for me right now. I really hope that PokerStars returns quickly, but we'll see how everything will turn out. My plan is to study as much as possible until their return so that I crush 200z and 500z even harder! Be afraid 200 and 500z regs, be very afraid!

Goals for this week

(1) Have lof of quality time with my gf
(2) Study 30-35 hours
(3) Gym 3 times
(4) Walk 10000 steps each day
(5) Pick up meditation

Good luck guys!

Have been following for a while and love when you update. I've been playing more HU lately which is your specialty so I was hoping you could give me a few pointers on what would be the most optimal way for a 6max reg to start studying and improving their HU game? Is there any good courses or training content you can recommend? Thank you in advance.

Yes, it really sucks. It's also very annoying that PokerStars can't give any updates about the matter. You would expect that they could give an update, because Q3 is only 10 days away and I know nothing more than I did in November last year.

Thanks for the compliment, man! I really enjoy your updates as well!

You need to get a hold of proper preflop ranges and from there you just need to start running simulations. Start of with experimenting with multiple betsizes on different streets and compare the EV difference to simulations with fewer, or single betsizes. If the EV loss is minimal resort to the simple strategy. This is a very time consuming process, but it is definitely rewarding. A common mistake is that people use far to many betsizes, which most people have a very hard time to balance between. Classic examples are that some people have no bluffs when they block on rivers, but never have any nutty hands either. A competent player will very quickly notice these weaknesses and exploit hard. Again and again I see that regulars tend to complicate things way to much for themselves. Just keep it as simple as possible, because even with limited betsizes this game is already incredibly complex. When you've finally found a simple strategy that hardly loses any EV compared to a more complex strategy you can begin with studying the simulations. Explaining how I do that takes to much time and I also don't want to give out to much free information, for obvious reasons.

I've never had a coach or followed any courses, but I think Checkraiser on RIO has some valuable videos and he also gave coaching I believe. He's definitely a very competent player, so I would start there if I didn't have much knowledge about HU.

Guys,

This was a very very very lazy week from my part. I don't really feel guilty about it and I actually enjoyed the time I had with my girlfriend and friends. I have completely settled again and now it's time to work seriously on my game again. The plan is still to become one of the better heads up regulars in the world.

Last week goals

(1) Have lof of quality time with my gf
(2) Studied 6-7 hours
(3) Gym 3/3 times
(5) Didn't pick up meditation yet

Goals upcoming week

(1) Study 30-35 hours
(2) Go to the gym 6 times
(3) START MEDITATION AGAIN

Good luck!

Yeah +1 thx for the advice. I had no idea HU still ran online at low/midstakes and was beatable post-rake . If it's ~10bb/100 then you're winning at around 20bb/100 pre-rake? That's dope! Did you climb to 200-500nl all from 50 HU or did you gravitate to HU over time with a preexisting bankroll from MTTs or 6max? Would love to hear more about your journey so far. I wish you the best of luck in going full-time and can't wait to see where you end up

I have been playing poker for more than a decade now, but never as seriously as I do now. It was always something that wasn't my primary focus.

I remember you, man! Those matches a couple of years ago on PokerStars at the high stakes. I even remember I was rooting for you, because there was this mysterious aura around you. A bit like Isildur back in the day.

Yes, sure it's beatable still. Most of the regulars at 200z and below are not great, so even with the high rake structure you should be able to win a few BB's after rake. At 500z there are a few guys that hold lobby at higher stakes too and obviously are insanely good at this game. The rake is indeed around 10bb/100, so I'm indeed winning around 20bb/100.

I have no background in MTT's or 6max; I've always played heads up. I have been playing this game for a very long time, but it was never my primary focus. Now it is, and I'm curious where I will end as well. In 2015 I almost decided to go full-time, but because I didn't finish college yet, I decided otherwise. I sincerely believe I would've been a high stakes regular by now if I had decided to become a full-time pro back then.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sup guys,

So I wanted to be really productive last week, but COVID hit me at the beginning of the week and I was kind of ill until Friday. Saturday evening I had a wedding and got absolutely shitfaced, so had no energy to do anything on Sunday. This week there will be no sickness and no laziness!

Goals this week
(1) 25-30 hours of studying
(2) Gym 6x
(3) 3x meditation
(4) praying PokerStars comes back very quickly!

Based on your writing in this blog and apparent attitude towards the game I'd say that's an accurate prediction, fwiw

GL & hopefully quick recovery in near future.

If any live games available, those are quite epic & can't imagine you losing in stakes 5/10 NL or above.

Assuming you'd probably crush 100/200 NL which I think only runs in LA, Parx, Borgota (NJ), Arizona, Texas, private games.

Sup guys!

I was away for 6 months, but I'm back again. PokerStars will not be coming online in the Netherlands any time soon, so I decided to move to Malta again. I will be living here the upcoming 8 months and I will give it my all to reach the top. You can expect weekly updates again, just like I did a few months ago.

Goals this week

(1) Going to the gym every morning from Monday until Saturday. Will be doing 6x strength sessions and at least 3x cardio
(2) Have a movement snack every time I'm not playing poker (jumping lunges, jumping squats, some stretching and some deep breathing)
(3) 12 hours of studying and 35-40 hours of poker/studying total
(4) Quit playing poker at 00:00 every day.

If I will not succeed on my poker goals each week I will be sending 50 dollars to one of the people that is going to respond in this thread, so that I will feel even more accountability. The only valid reason for me not to complete this goal is when I'm ill.

Let's ****ing go!

Hello people,

I apologize for not being consistent with the updates lately, but it kind of feels like a hassle at the moment to do it weekly. I think a monthly update works better for me at the moment.

So, I arrived on Malta on the 20th of November. Initially I had some start up problems, because the first couple of days I couldn't play since my account was under investigation. I made a fairly big withdrawal last July, which apparently justified an investigation. After that I got infected with COVID, which meant I couldn't play for a couple of days either. To top it all off the internet didn't work for a couple of days after that, but since then everything is running smoothly. I'm very consistent with studying and playing poker, I work out daily, get in a lot of steps, I get sleep for 7-8 hours a night structurally and I eat healthy 95% of the time.

For the upcoming year I don't have a clear goal, other than staying balanced and being consistent with my habits. I feel like I'm closing the gap between guys at the higher stakes and myself, although those feelings might not be entirely accurate. I do have contact regularly with a high stakes regular and I feel like we think very similar in almost every spot. It's on me though to prove in the upcoming year that I can hold my own against these guys.

You guys can expect monthly updates, but as time passes it might evolve into a weekly thing again. We'll see how it goes!

Happy new year guys!
