hey man, Im pretty sure that we used to battle @ 100nl HU waaay back (5-6 years ago, my sn: McBurak), you were one of the better regs there already then, so Im sure you'll do great now that you are playing full time. Good luck! Malta is a great place for poker, since there isn't really much else to do than grind from what I've heard

Yea, I remember you! What are you doing now?

Pretty happy with my work ethic this week, but sometimes my game suffered a bit because of the long hours. I've definitely made some really unnecessary spews, especially in the evenings when I was playing far from my A-game.

Goals this week

(1) Hours of playing/studying poker: 45.29/35-40
(2) Meditation 6/7
(3) Gym 2/3
(4) Pages read 50/70

Goals upcoming week

(1) 35 hours of studying/playing poker minimum
(2) 7 days of meditation
(3) read 70 pages of The Mind Illuminated
(4) 5 gym sessions and 2/3 cardio sessions

I'll do some longer updates with results at the end of the month.

I quit online poker at the end of 2017 (living is rather cheap in Poland, so I was able to make ok money @ 100nl) and got a decent job in finance, now I play some midstakes live games on the side, which works much better for me.

Would love to see some more hands, I wonder how much has the low/mid stakes hu changed over the last few years - for example, the gap between 2013 and 2017 was massive, but it felt like there wasn't all that much to discover after that. But I might be very wrong here

ps. maybe remove that long line from the previou post, it breaks the forum for me :P

Why did you stop playing online? Not being able to combine it with work?

I will show some hands at the end of the month; as well as my results. I think there are slightly more regulars now than back in 2017, but a lot of them are quite bad still. I think making good money at 200z is still very possible, but of course it's my dream to play higher stakes soon!

I'll make the line shorter this time, just for you!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Again, I'm quite happy with my work ethic this week. The results still aren't great, but luck isn't really on my side the last two weeks.

Goals this week

(1) Hours of playing/studying poker: 38.07/35-40
(2) Meditation 7/7
(3) Gym 2/5
(4) Cardio 2/2
(4) Pages read 25/70

Goals next week

(1) 35 hours of studying/playing poker minimum
(2) 7 days of meditation
(3) read 70 pages of The Mind Illuminated
(4) 5 gym sessions and 2/3 cardio sessions

I wouldn't say it's a habit already, since I still need to make a conscious effort to meditate. I motivate myself by asking why I want to meditate, and because it has such a major influence on things that I value - ability to focus, to be calm and be more mindful - it's easier for me to do. I also really enjoy to sit down and meditate for 30-40 minutes, which makes it easier as well.

Jo guys!

Poker is going decent, but not great. Running a bit below my normal winrate, but with the rakeback on PokerStars it's actually fine. I think I'm up around 5k since my arrival on Malta, which is fine. Action was kind of dry this week, so it was tough to get the hours in at the tables. Still managed to get in around 25 hours of playing though, which is fine.

Goals last week

(1) Hours of playing/studying poker: 34.41/35-40 (10 hours of studying)
(2) Meditation 4/7
(3) Gym 4/5
(4) Cardio 0/2
(5) Pages read 20/70

Goals upcoming week

(1) 35/40 hours of studying/poker (trying to do 15 hours of studying this week!)
(2) Meditate daily
(3) Gym 5x a week and 2x cardio
(4) Read 70 pages
(5) Stop playing/studying at 23:45 every day

Sup guys?

So last week was a bit lazy from my part; didn't reach any of the goals I had set for myself. I had a few nights of terrible sleep, and I also struggled a bit with motivation for some reason. The money on 200z is quite nice, but the opposition is quite weak. It hardly offers a competitive challenge at this point, which makes it hard to incentivize me to really study tons; still do 10 hours a week on average though. I really look forward to settle at 500 and 1k at some point, because I know there are guys there that are better than I am. The feeling of being worse than somebody else has always ignited a fire in me to put in the hours and to surpass them some day. For now I just need to keep on grinding 200z for a bit longer before I can take shots again at 500. I had to rebuild my roll from last November, because last year I was so busy with graduating that I hardly had any time to play poker.

Goals last week

(1) Hours of playing/studying poker: 30.55/35-40 (7.5 hours of studying)
(2) Meditation 3/7
(3) Gym 4/5
(4) Cardio 1/2
(5) Pages read 10/70

Goals upcoming week

(1) 35/40 hours of studying/poker
(2) Meditate daily
(3) Gym 5x a week and 2x cardio
(4) Read 70 pages
(5) Stop playing/studying at 23:45 every day

The week is over and I'm happy with my work ethic regarding poker! In the past I've had problems with procrastination and performance anxiety, so to be this consistent with my efforts is a big win!

What I'm not happy about is the fact that I ****ed up my back again 8-9 days ago while doing dumbbell shoulder press, which is not the first time that happens during this exercise. Maybe I should focus more on my form, since I'm going quite heavy and my spine might not always be in the best position. The pain was so bad for the first two or three days that I had trouble walking. With some rest it has improved significantly, but it's still not 100%. I didn't work out at all last week, which is so tough for me. My sleep is instantly ****ed after a few days of not being able to work out. I've always been a very active guy and if I'm unable to expend my energy during the day it translates in increased stress and having a lot of difficulty falling asleep. When I go to bed I constantly have this feeling of not being able to catch a full breath, which always happens when I'm sedentary for a longer period of time. This always resolves when I get back to my normal routine of being able to do my cardio and weight training; meditation helps too of course! Especially cardio has such a tremendous influence on my sleep and overall well being; it's absolutely recommended if you're not doing it already! This week I'm going to try to get back to working out, but I'm unsure if the lower back will hold. If it's not possible I should just force myself to have long walks instead, to at least get some movement in.

Goals last week

(1) Hours of playing/studying poker: 41.58/35-40 (10 hours of studying)
(2) Meditation 1/7
(5) Pages read 10/70

Goals upcoming week

(1) 25 hours of studying/poker (going on a trip for two days, which means I can't play/study that much this week)
(2) Meditate daily
(3) Gym 3x this week and 2x cardio
(4) Read 50
(5) Stop playing/studying at 23:45 every day

Maybe drop a bit of the weight and try and get the form correct. Even though the weight is lower, proper form should get more out of your muscles. Wishing a swift recovery!

Sup guys,

The start of January isn't great thus far. I took a shot at 500 and lost 8 bins in 1k hands or something like that. So have to play 200 for a short while again, before I can take a shot again. The upcoming week I'll not be playing my normal volume, because my girlfriend is here for 9 days on Malta; she's leaving on Sunday again. I will not set any poker/study goals this week, but I will resume my weekly poker/study updates from next week.

My goal this year

Become one of the best heads up regulars on this planet! I'm not sure if it's possible to get to that level in a year, but if I'll not strive for it, it's certain I'll never reach it. I know it might be overly ambitious and maybe a tad delusional, but I don't care. I'm going to give it my best!

Goals this week

- 7x meditation
- 4x gym and 2x cardio
- doing some fun things with my gf

Results thus far in January

Sup,

Last week goals

(1) Poker and studying: 22 hours in total (6.5 hours of studying)
(2) 1x meditation
(3) 1x gym

I studied and played poker more than I expected this week, but I didn't complete any other goal though, other than doing fun stuff with my girlfriend. She's back in the Netherlands, so we're in full grind mode again. My goals for this week are:

(1) 35-40 hours of studying/poker
(2) Meditate daily
(3) Exercise at least 3 times this week
(4) Stop playing/studying at 23:45 every day

Another week in the books and I crushed all my goals! My friend and I agreed to not use our phones for entertainment purposes last week, and I think that definitely explains why I was so productive. I was also quite surprised by how addicted I am to my phone, since I was just automatically opening social media or YouTube sometimes. I'll try to continue to limit my screen time this week, because I actually enjoyed it.

Goals last week

(1) Hours of playing/studying poker: 44.31/35-40 (13.03 hours of studying)
(2) Meditation 7/7
(3) Exercise 4/3

Results are absolutely awful this month; just can't seem to beat anyone. It doesn't matter who sits me this month, there's one thing that's certain, and that's that they walk away with my money. I hope I can turn things around a bit last week of the month.

Goals upcoming week

(1) 35-40 hours of studying/playing poker
(2) Meditate every day (30 minutes or more)
(3) Exercise three times at least
(4) Have a long walk instantly after waking up every day

I'm so ****ing annoyed by this game this month. I crush 200z for 350k hands, take a shot at 500z, and just lose 20 bins in 2.5k hands. Let's rebuild again and hopefully try again soon!

I am content however with my work ethic this month. Especially considering my girlfriend was in Malta for 9 days. I've played 98 hours and studied for 40 hours.

Jo!

Another week done! I'm very content with my play and studying habits these last three months. I really believe that if I keep this up I can become one of the best HUNL cash players within a year. There are a few things that I can still do better besides learning optimal play; one of them is listening to my gut and not always thinking about how I ''optimally'' should respond. Very often people are just to unbalanced to give a **** about that, even good regulars in some spots. I shouldn't care whether a hand is very low or high in my range or the blockers or unblockers are good or not if I know the other player over- or underbluffs/calls. Especially during a bad run we can rationalize our plays based on GTO play, but deep down we know we can make better decisions than that.

On another note, I have been quite steady with my meditation practice and I think I'm noticing some progress. I think I've had a short no self experience last week, which was actually terrifying. These insights normally come a bit later and I feel like I wasn't ready yet. I literally felt like I was going to lose myself, which triggered a panic attack. Instead of doing my normal meditation practice - keeping stable focus on the breath, while keeping peripherial awareness - I'm doing a loving-kindness meditation, which works better for me now. I will move back to my original practice when I feel a bit more comfortable doing it again.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Goals last week

(1) 39.23 hours of studying/playing poker (11.55h of studying)
(2) 4/7 meditation
(3) 4/3 exercise
(4) 7/7 long walks

Goals upcoming week

(1) 30-35 hours of studying/playing poker
(2) 5x meditation
(3) 3x exercise
(4) 6 long walks
(5) stopping screen time before 12 and be in bed before 1

Another week, another update!

I've been sick on Monday and Tuesday, so I'm happy I still completed my poker goals this week.

I really need to fix my sleeping schedule, because sometimes I sleep at 5 in the morning and other days I'm going to bed at 2 o clock. I just want to become a bit more consistent with the sleeping habits. From this week on I'm going to bed before 1 and sticking to it. I don't want to wake up that late anymore every day. Also, I need to pick up the meditating consistently again, because slacking hard with that too! It's not easy to always be consistent with everything, but we gotta keep trying.

Goals last week

(1) 34.55 hours of studying/playing poker (7.53h of studying)
(2) 2/5meditation
(3) 1/3 exercise
(4) 6/6 long walks
(5) 0/6 stopping screen time before 12

Goals upcoming week

(1) 35-40 hours of studying/playing poker
(2) 7x meditation
(3) 5x exercise
(4) 7 long walks
(5) stopping screen time before 12 and be in bed before 1

Good luck guys!

I'm not getting a huge amount of comments here, but my main goal is to keep myself accountable. When I share my goals here every week, I feel like I can't procrastinate and just **** around. So I will continue with the weekly updates, because it helps me to pursue my weekly goals.

I stopped meditating for last two weeks, because of the spooky experience I had a while back during meditation. This week I want to pick it up again, since the no-self experience I had was both spooky, but also triggered a curiosity in me to continue with the practice. The fear of a similar experience was stronger than the curiosity though, which resulted in no practice at all.

Poker went really well this week, and the consistent study habit of around 10h a week really has a significant effect on my understanding of this beautiful game. I really believe that when I continue with this habit I will rise to the high stakes eventually; if it's not already infested with players that use RTA or bots by the time I get there.
