November Update

I thought I was going to have a good month then it came crashing down

Total was -$11410.32 + $13,671.14 ($12433.14 WSOP $1000 PS $238 Party) = +$2,260.82

Update on the Tesla. It is definitely exceeding my expectations so far. The FSD even in the city has been way better than I thought it would be. Curious how it will be in the snow though...

As usual, I take my yearly trip to Florida for the holidays. So I have until the 23rd to make it back. End of the year run good one time please? Especially at 1k+. I am due!

December/Year End Update

Another disappointing month. It was an unfortunate last couple months to an otherwise good year.

I am off to Florida for 2 weeks so wanted to post my update now.

Total was -$27296.63 + $18,637.6 ($17,714.60 GG $750 PS $173 Party) = -$8,659.03

Year All Sites:

PokerStars:

Party:

GG:

Total Profit: -$32902.72 + $163038.05 = +$130,135.33

I will probably make another post in the new year with a deeper reflection, but a few quick thoughts:

1. There is a clear correlation of my GG results when I started to go harder for leaderboards. It's clearly profitable since I get almost 100% back of rake attributed, but could I do better with more focus/game selection? Last year I was winning pre rakeback. This year not so much.

2. Do I think the Ontario games are getting tougher? Maybe a bit, but you can still get a lot of volume with 1 rec per table. The only time I don't play with 1 rec per table is if it is happy hour.

3. My focus this year was on making money vs. content. I do want to get back into content, I am just not sure the best way of doing it.

4. I might want to add some mtts. When I first got into poker, it was with mtts. I love and hate them. I have always said they are the future and if I played full time I would probably focus there. With that being said the top reg hourly rates seem to be $50-$70 on sharkscope and I am getting double that at cash. The time zones and field size is optimal for me though to add some in. Especially when games are slow.

5. I really enjoyed my two Vegas trips. Met a lot of new people and had a lot of fun. I am going in April for two weeks, but I want to go again in the summer and maybe one more time in the fall at least.

That is all for now. I hope everyone has a great Christmas/Holidays and New Year and I will talk to you soon!

not bad curious what you think your expected ev should have been on the year or rather next year with the same schedule. I think the first couple of months were way above average of what you can expect going forward because of the Ontario launch but maybe you also coulda ran better

Am I reading this correctly? You had a loosing year in poker, but then made almost $100k+ in rakeback? Is that the model for high stakes poker reg in a high-rake environment?

Well as you can see GG is the only site that is the case. With that being said it maybe could be avoided if I didn't go so hard for the leaderboard. You can see a clear difference when I started to care about leaderboards. I could've just ran hot for a while, but breaking even with 70% is good too. Leaderboards add about 15-30% extra rakeback depending on the month then you lose the 2bb100 for the BBJ. I just count it as a loss and if I ever get it back its a bonus. I am currently down 50k in EV for BBJ. Would it be more profitable hourly to not care about leaderboards and game selecting/not play as many tables? Not sure.

GG All Time:

Lastly, HU which accounts for 1/5 of my volume since during happy hour you get > 100% rakeback, the rake is almost 13bb/100.

Nice results man gz on the year! Is the rakeback you get on gg an exclusive rakeback deal or is it just their standard system?

Off to Vegas for two weeks. Going to play some live. There will be some fun mixed in, of course. It will be my cousin's birthday this weekend, so we have some fun things planned, and then the following week, I have to go for a day or two to ISC West, a security conference for my business. I was hoping for some run good before then, but what can you do!

April Update

Still not where I want to be, but at least I was able to recoup some of the Vegas costs!

All Sites:

PS:

GG:

Party:

Total was -$5690.76 + $11119.24 ($10255.24 GG $750 PS $114 Party) = +$5428.48

Vegas was a lot of fun for two weeks. I put in 30 hours of poker at mostly 5/10. Honestly, those games were not the best. 2/5 was a lot better. I started to play that towards the end. When I ran some sims, the difference between 5/10 timed rake and 2/5 at 10% 1bb wasn't that big at all. So, for that time of year, that was probably the play.

It was my cousin's 25th birthday, and we celebrated that by getting bottle service three nights in a row, lol. The best night was at Omnia when Tiësto was there. We went to a bunch of good restaurants; my favorite being Carbone. Prime at Bellagio was a close second. We went to the Grand Canyon on a helicopter tour, to a gun range, and checked out the Sphere. The Sphere was pretty overrated. I wouldn’t really recommend it. Overall, it was a good time and a nice break from online.

I meant to do a quarterly update last month, but since I was leaving on the first, I was in a rush to update the thread and forgot to add it.

Here are the combined results for the first four months:

All Sites:

PS:

104039 Hands

+$26657.81 + $4750 (Rakeback)

=$0.302/Hand

GG:

188973 Hands

-$72222.70 + $60617.52 (Rakeback)

=-$0.061/Hand

Party:

37706 Hands

-$2308.90 + $1000.50 (Rakeback)

=-$0.04/Hand

Total:

+$18,494.23 or $.06/Hand

So far this year, I am pretty disappointed in my results, especially at 1k. Games are still really good (some might say the games are drying up, but I disagree), so I feel like I should be doing a lot better. Compared to last year, I was averaging $0.16 per hand across all sites: $0.13 on GG, $0.17 on PS, and $0.28 on Party. It's likely that my 1k results are dragging this down quite a bit, and it doesn't help that I am way under EV. Hitting a BBJ would help too

About two months or so until I likely go to Vegas again for a week during the WSOP. I plan to really focus and try to do my best, and hopefully, this next quarter will be back to expectation.

May Update

This month was ok. I took a week and a half off in Florida, which resulted in a lower volume than usual. Interestingly, I had better luck at the 1k tables but ended up losing at the 500 tables. The opposite of the usual this year.

All Sites:

PS:

Party:

GG:

Total was +2759.24 + $11710.67 ($11110.67 GG $500 PS $100 Party) = +$14469.91

I decided to go to Vegas next month for a week around July 4th. I probably won't play in the Main Event this year, but I love being there and seeing some friends. The FOMO is real right now!

June Update

Crazy month. One of the worst runs I've ever had. It is what it is. It's funny because I said I wouldn't complain about running under EV if I won the main event seat. But then it seems I got punished for it As long as I save the good run for the main event, I will take it!

All Sites:

PokerStars:

Party:

GG:

Total was -$12839.57 + $20622.04 ($18872.04 GG $1500 PS $250 Party) = +$7782.47

Quarterly Update:

This quarter was better than the first, but this year has been rough EV wise

All Sites:

-$15771.09 + $43,451.95(Rakeback) = $27,680.86

PokerStars:

+$8188.21 + $2750 (Rakeback) = +$10,938.21

Party:

+$8188.21 + $464 (Rakeback) = +$6,131.28

GG:

-$29626.58 + $40237.95 (Rakeback) = +$10,611.37

Halfway through the year, it's a bit disappointing. It's tough because if I ran at EV, it would be slightly better than last year, especially at 1k. Hopefully, things will turn around soon, and I can end the year strong, ideally before we potentially go back to ROW. Rumors suggest it could be sometime in early 2025 after a November vote. A GG BJJ would help too. Hopefully, it starts with the main event next week!
