So hello to all to happen to stumble upon this thread. My name is Ben (luldocuments on stars) and I have been degening for a living what seems like my entire life. I started a week before my 18th birthday in 2008 with a $50 and have to this point never worked a "real" job in my life. I do however consider poker to be a real job. It requires hard work to actually play professionally and sustain a long run income. So about my poker history.. well I have played just about anything you can imagine from .25/.50 limit holdem to the wsop main event. With the highest I've ever played being a live 300/600 11 game mix.

So basically to take a shortcut and get you up speed I played online pre BF and did well for myself playing limit cash games and 18 man sngs/MTTs. After BF I played a lot of live poker and despite having a fairly solid winrate in bb/BB per hour I wasn't up nearly as many $ as I would have liked and was pretty exhausted by the live variance. I decided it was time for me to return to online and the heaps of variance free money I was making pre BF. I moved to Canada in May.

Fast forward to today. 4 months lots of volume and I am essentially b/e before rb after over 10000 sngs. having done 8% in the past I am very disappointed but today I realized I only have myself to blame. Playing live I had become fairly used to being in the top 3 players at any table I was at. It has made me lazy. I haven't been studying near as hard as I used to and my focus while playing is severly lacking. I find myself going through the motions too often and not actually playing the very solid poker I am capable of.

So something had to give and I've decided to make this thread as both a way to motivate myself to play well and study and to set a very hard but achievable goal.


I am currently playing 15/30/60 18 man sngs but I'm strongly considering switching games. I have a lot of experience in multiple types of games so I will likely be bouncing around.

Quick Razz lesson Kids. If you are Villian you need to be folding 5th. Equity wise you are far behind because my range has never paired. The pot is not bloated and you have reverse implied odds.

yah the b/e part is a bit misleading I'm up a bunch in the 15s even in the 30s and stuck 100 bis in the 60s with half the games being at the 15s and only 1000 games at the 60s. But yah I just need to work harder and focus when I'm playing. Been slacking too much.

hehe but honestly if poker stars spreads it I might be playing it. There is no form of poker I haven't been a lifetime winner at over a large sample. Which is why I'll never be the best at any of them. Put me in an 8 game mix though and even at high stakes I'm usually above average vs the field in each game. The only thing you won't find me playing is PLO.

Pretty unhappy at my 30-60 results. I'm pretty convinced it's more my focus more than anything. I will continue to study though and I hope to see my results improve in all games.

Been pretty busy. My parents are visiting for the weekend so not much grinding and I'm moving home for a week or two before I head to Mexico.


I might not update this for awhile.

As a note I guess I haven't really said much about the goal.

I'm at 233,200 vpps right now and I'm seriously considering aiming for SNE by the end of the year. If I go for it I must remain profitable while doing so.


It's going to be an interesting journey in the next 4 months and I suppose the true goal is to make at least 60k in that time. Anything less and I will be very disappointed. Anyway thanks to all who are following I'll see you when I'm back on the grind.

you think a heads up pot with one extra small bet is bloated? you also think drawing to runner runner and still being able to lose is not reverse implied odds?

the extra bet increases the size of the pot you can win. It's up to you what you consider bloated I guess.

As far as villain's implied odds (or the reverse of that), you have to compare this spot to the standard situation in limit poker. i.e. both players put in one bet per street until showdown and then villain wins x% of the time, where x is his pot equity. He won't win even close to half the time but that's because his equity is pretty small and has nothing to do with implied odds. The fact that many of his losing hands will occur when he bricks 6th st (and folds right there) and all of his winning hands will occur when he shows down his runner runner catch (and gets bets from hero on 6th and 7th) means that he's got pretty good implied odds for calling one bet on 5th.
