I'm not allowed to complain about runbad for the rest of this month.

#heatersgonnaheat

There weren't really any interesting hands. I won 2 flips QQ vs AK.

Hand

SB ($289)
BB ($252)
UTG ($211)
Hero ($276)
CO ($68.60)
BTN ($199)

Dealt to Hero K J

fold, Hero raises to $5.75, fold, BTN calls $5.75, fold, fold

FLOP ($14.50) 3 4 J

Hero bets $9.66, BTN raises to $26.25, Hero calls $16.59

TURN ($67) 3 4 J K

Hero checks, BTN bets $41, Hero calls $41

RIVER ($149) 3 4 J K 3

Hero checks, BTN bets $126 (AI), Hero calls $126

BTN shows 5 5
(Pre 50%, Flop 13.6%, Turn 4.5%)

Hero wins $397

His bet sizing is good, too bad I can't fold 3pair.

Had an extremely stressful day. Lost KK vs AA in a 4bet pot at 2knl (pretty standard). Spent all day rostuckoing. It is very important to get a good nights rest before grinding. DO NOT GRIND IF YOU ARE TIRED. It is not a good idea.

Think I might write something about tilt and gameflow/table dynamics sometime in the near future.

Please post if you don't mind answering the following questions:
What tilts you?
What do you do differently when you tilt?
Do you feel yourself go on tilt?
Do you have any mechanism to stop you from tilting?
What times do you normally grind?

1) Catching the worst turn/river cards that I can't barrel / have to C/F
Fish calling with better hands when I v-bet
Fish on a heater (catching better hands when hero has slightly worse)
2) Think more critically about each hand trying to maneuver each and every pot
3) Yar
4) Stop session to get a breather, hot tea, deep breaths
5) Afternoon / night

1) I dont tilt when I lose vs fish but I tilt when I big pots lose vs aggro regs. Also hitnrunning players. I also tilt when I made bad decisions. most of the time tilt builds up in a bad session.

2) I start concentrating even more on making good not tilted decisions when I feel im a bit tilted. From the moment I fail I quit

3) Yes, luckily very clearly. When i get really tilted I start to sweat

4) like I said before concentrating more on making slow good decisions, breath slow, rationalising in my head, quitting when the previous stuff didnt help

5) when most fish are online, when I feel like playing

Can you explain the KJ hand?

Also, can you explain how you'd play this differently if it were vs a typical 50nl reg if you do.

What tilts you?

Jamming the river on a reg (I play 100nl) where I credibly rep many hands and he tank/calls with a bluffcatcher. I get disappointed in myself for expecting him to bet/fold rivers with the same range I would bet/fold rivers given an opponents line. I like taking responsibility for my actions so I recognise that if I'm jamming in a spot that they should fold and they don't, that's my error for not recognising it.
What do you do differently when you tilt?
I go on long mental wanderings about where the dollars are made vs regs at my limit and start mentally pep-talking myself into convincing myself I can beat them so I don't lose too much confidence about my play. (I've only been playing cash for a short while so I don't have much history of success at any limit)
Do you feel yourself go on tilt?
I feel myself go a bit sick in the stomach about dusting off a buyin I shouldn't have with a bluff. I've played thousands of tournaments before so losing a flip for one buyin is nothing compared to losing a flip for multiples of your original equity, so for the most part I don't sweat aipf's and I've never looked at my HEM profit graph mid-session.
Do you have any mechanism to stop you from tilting?
Turn the music off, start breathing a bit more deliberately, stove hands in my break and critique my plays. Remind myself that if I find a mistake that will save me one buyin every session, or even every two sessions, that translates to a huge increase in profitability.
What times do you normally grind?

My question for you...

How do you effectively combat players who have an aggressive and balanced flat preflop then checkraise-and-barrel-it-off strategy out of the blinds? Say you open CO and they flat midpairs and good suited broadway. The flop comes Qc7h8h and they checkraise hands like AQ/77/88/Axhh for value and barrel off, and checkraise hands like ATcc/AJcc/KJcc/JTcc which have good backdoor equity+fold equity over three streets of betting...how do you tackle playing hands like AQo and KQo in this spot? 3betting flop seems awkward since they will only push with good equity, and flatting with a capped range makes it really awkward when a third of the deck could have you crushed on the turn.

You seem to grind alot, when I play marathon sessions I just don't seem to do so well -do you think the ability to grind on one's A-game over 2 hours can be learnt or is 'genetic'?

Thanks for all the responses so far, keep em coming! Hopefully I'll be able to find some similarities but if not I'll try to address each of you individually.

vs a 50NL reg you just fistpump fold flop. Assume he isn't bluffing you ever.

Vs the guy in my hand, he just sat down but was playing almost all his hands at 75/6x. Not a regular, no notes on him. Likely a rec player/fish. I expect him to 3bet JJ pre some % of the time. The times he doesn't he won't raise flop. Which leaves value hands at 44/33. Fish in general call flushdraws more than raise. River brings out the last 3 which means he has quads/boat and if he does, its just a huge cooler. If he shows up with a flush then I got owned.

check back weaker SD hands like 2nd pair, top pair weak kicker. Most players at the stakes you play will be nowhere near "balanced". You need to figure out villains preflop strategy and then go from there. It's all about handreading.

For example, if he 3bets at a decent clip preflop vs steals, you should discount AQ/KQ from his range on that Q78.

if his range is ATcc/AJcc/KJcc/TJcc/88/77/AQ/XXhh and he barrels off you should be fistpump calling river with AQ because his range is so weak. It's just a cooler vs 77/88 unless he never follows through river. (I'm not a "math based" player but I'm pretty sure you're doing great with AQ there). You should also be just calling your sets there too since he's barrel happy instead of 3betting and pushing out his air. Don't assume he c/r JTcc/KJcc and the hands like that (don't project your own tendencies onto villain). Take good notes.

That's about all I can say without looking specifically at villains hands/stats. I'm quite good at reading HUD/HEM stats if I can say so myself.

Practice makes perfect! I would suggest adding 15minutes-30minutes every couple of days to your normal grind session as opposed to just go from one hour to three.

I don't really believe in forcing yourself to play like "lockdowns" or having a monthly set number of hands you have to hit. It's really stressful and can kill your passion for the game.

This is a huge win in my book. I was playing my C-game last night from 1-4AM. On top of that, I was 3tabling some guy who I think is terrible, HU at 1kNL. Was very tired/tilted and was clicking buttons half the time. Not a good idea.

Thank goodness for weekend fish/bad regs.

I'll repeat this again because its so damn important. DO NOT GRIND IF YOU ARE TIRED.

Do as I say, not as I do.

6k swongs. #aintnothangbutachickewang. Pretty good day, gonna take the rest of it off. Ran pretty bad playing HU vs some of the regs last night, but 6m/shorthanded makes up for it. May need to work on my HU game as well. Weekends are nice.

Heater still here. I played drunk last night and somehow ended up on top after being a huge monkey. Some of the hands are pretty damn embarrassing. I'm still collecting my thoughts on "tilt" and will write my thoughts as soon as I'm done.

Total in BBs since redeposit

And since I'm too lazy to actually write something for my 5k post, next 3 posts gets a DB review by yours truely. BUT there are a few requirements:

1. You must play 6max (shorterhanded is okay too)
2. You must have at least a 15k hand sample
3. You must have Holdem Manager (sorry PT3 guys)
