I'm just picking on him about his general approach to winning @ poker, which I (& many others) find lacking, & for my part at least, would like OP not to bottom out completely.

As always, GL Rich.
Can you explain what you mean by OP not bottoming out?

Nooooooo, don't shut up, I like it when people offer realism rather than wishful thinking. Which is what you're doing.

Thanks guys, hopefully I've provided enough clues ITT that it won't surprise everyone when I do become successful.

I posted in FB about how everyone should have voted themselves most likely to succeed in high school and a friend replied that he voted for me. Well that made me feel good. So I got at least 2 votes. But then my other friend, the guy who did end up winning, is legit bipolar shizophrenic. So wtf do other people's opinions matter anyway?

Thought I was clear. My bad.

Translation: I'm not rooting for Rich (aka Original Poster) to fail @ poker. But he's got a long way to go.

The Myth of Invincibility:

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/b...incibility?amp

The professional opinion of a professional psychologist:

Quote:
Believing that no harm can come your way, no matter what, can lead you to become a victim of the myth of invincibility. There is a reason behind the saying that “pride goeth before a fall,” or that excessive pride or hubris, commonly regarded as a tragic flaw, will lead to your own undoing. Once you’ve convinced yourself that you’re invincible, you fail to see yourself in an accurate or realistic light. Whatever shortcomings you’ve avoided coming to grips with can then come back to haunt you. And, if they're serious enough, they can lead to your downfall....

Anyone who goes into a competitive situation convinced of his or her own invincibility is liable to suffer a similar fate. Once you see yourself as the inevitable hero or victor, you’ll fail to prepare yourself for the reality of what might end up being a very challenging situation.

I overheard the last snippet of a conversation tonight, the player to my right an annoying mid 30s asian reg says "I'm a very nice person" in a very hostile and defensive tone. I quip "You know what a nice person doesn't have to say "I'm a very nice person"' Zing! He says "I don't have a comeback for that but that's your opinion." He leaves like 10 minutes later and I start talking to the quiet asian player to my left about how annoying he is and how he is regularly in a bad mood and creating a bad atmospere. Another asian player across from me says he wanted to add "that's my opinion too" but he didn't want to escalate things. He then tells me he plays in a lot of casinos but that player is top of the list most annoying players and its not even close. Lol I can see that, he is a deplorable human being imo, the kind of person that puts everyone around them in a bad mood constantly. Glad I zinged him and got him to leave. After he left the table everyone was having a great time laughing and getting along.

Down some, took a break, will report back later on how much I lose.

I'm going out to the Troubadour tomorrow night with my cousin to see my friend's band play. They're headlining.

Yup thanks Leo, I just gotta keep at it, respect my opponents, respect variance, and hopefully string together some wins.

One thing I want to try to avoid doing in this thread is to label and generalize people. Everyone is unique. My aim is to describe the people I encounter in rich detail.

Daisy

Daisy is far and away my favorite dealer. She is a ~50yo asian lady who is a ray of sunshine. She lights up the casino and is absolutely a beautiful human being. She's just very nice and a genuinely good person and good at her job too. I definitely make sure to tip her more, on every hand, and when she leaves the table to let her know I appreciate her positive attitude.

I once saw Rich fold 66 in the bb to a 3x raise and 3x call pre flop 100bb deep in a 50nl game on Bovada. But hes definitely the type to punt full buy ins with no pair because he has a read. Yaaaap sure.

Hmmmm that just sounds like a bad fold lol. Maybe I misclicked or misread my hand as 65. You used to watch me stream? I think I only averaged like 5-10 viewers and I found it hard to talk and focus on stream and play at the same time, so I usually just played and didn't talk at all or even worse had some show playing in the background. I was a terrible streamer.

I don't like being accused of lying.

At 1:42:45 I bluff shove the river for 3x pot in 200NL on Bovada. Bottom right table. I had 3rd pair but I don't think anyone is calling that a value shove.

At 3:11:00 I make a bluff reraise in a MTT based on table chat alone, I would have made this move with probably any top 90% hand. Around 3:15:30 I give my reasoning for making the 3bet bluff preflop.

Ok cool. I'd be surprised if I folded 66 after a 3x open and a call from the BB but if you say so. I can remember folding AKos utg on autopilot once and looking back and laughing. I'm like you know what? That hand is actually pretty borderline from UTG and folding isn't so ******ed. This was a MTT. But yeah you shouldn't fold AKo from utg but I did! I can be the tightest player at the table sometimes and the craziest player at other times. I need to change gears more often, lately I've been stuck in the same gear.

Ok it happened. I guess I got distracted by QQ on the other table. Definitely a bad fold! Even I'm not that tight!

Live poker has a lot more subtle complexities to it than many ITT think it does.

Whereas on line NLHE is largely solved, live NLHE isn't and never totally will be, because you are dealing with playing conditions, players and other human factors that are in a state of flux, so playing live is as much about learning to adapt to these factors and to get progressively better at them (sometimes through analysis and sometimes through trial and error or observation of patterns), as it is about playing the actual cards and hands in a "correct" way. A good/great live player who is determined to get better at live skills will end up having certain skills that a great on line player can never achieve.

Sure I also would have done one or two things differently to Rich if I were in his shoes (e.g. I would have sold 15% to 20% of the 10K comp to bank a profit and therefore play the comp more relaxed), but overall I have a lot of admiration for him essentially placing himself inside his own social experiment. It takes a lot of guts, commitment and determination to do something like he is doing and I wish him great success and progress with it.

Thanks SageDonkey! Yeah I love all the nuances of live play. One thing I do better than my opponents (on avg) is pay attention. So many times I see player's looking at their phone or watching a movie or something. Not me. I don't even own a smart phone or Ipad and I don't bring my flip phone inside the casino. I'm disconnected and I love it. I'm always watching the action, analyzing how people play, what hands they raise or call with preflop.

Results 5/17: -$205
