just came back from our 8 day trip to Baccalar and the Islands of Belize.
expect a big update tomorrow with photo's and hands from highstakes where I played and took shots this weekend
we went to the bus station to meet with the 2 Swedish poker players David and Kristoffer that would join us on the trip. 5 minutes before the 3 hour busdrive would start, we found out that we had the wrong busstation in playa! We started running and shouting for taxi’s and got at the other bus station 5 minutes after the bus would leave, the bus was still there, the Swedish guys were in it but it was sold out...
We took a bus later to Chetumal that would leave only an hour later so it was fine, after driving for aprox. 3 hours we saw the beautiful lake of Bacalar where we heard a lot about already and got to a nice hostel right next to the lake of seven colours. our view from the hostel was stunning, and the place offered what we were all seeking for, just a nice chill vibe and not much to do.
We went on a nice boat trip the second day, where we visited the black cinoté and some really nice spots on the lake. we heard there were crocodiles in the water but that wasn’t on our part of the lake luckily the lake is a mix of salt and sweet water and is really crystal blue
me, Iason and a random polish guy with futurama tattoo
After 2 nights we decided to take the boat to San Pedro, a city on Abergris Caye, better known as La Isla Bonita, the original song is from Madonna and this is a cover by Alizee, funny to hear this song after being there.
Funny light on the taxiboat with Kristoffer and Horveech
Iason and David having lunch on the beach in San Pedro
It was kind of nice, but the tourism on this island was mainly diving/snorkeling because Belize has the 2th biggest barrier reef of the world. We left after 1 night
We knew that Caye Caulker would be better for us. We’ve heard and read many stories on the internet that it was like paradise for backpackers that didn’t want to do much. When we arrived on the island I was stunned, it was really beautiful and people were super friendly, there were no cars allowed on the island, the only way to drive around was by bike or golfcart even the police was! This picture was the police driving on the “main road”
you could walk from the one side of the island to the beach on the other side in like 5 minutes, it was really small and felt the closest to a tropical island I’ve ever been.
we went canoeing around the island on the second day we were there. Kristoffer wasn’t doing much
Parties on the island were also fun, we got 25 litres of free rum punch from the hostel every night, so you can imagine how that was, we made a lot of new friends the hostel had a pool and pingpong table, for some reason I really suck at pingpong so I got crushed there. But I did fine in pool.
On the 3th day we went on a really cool trip, a combination of spearfishing and swimming with sharks and stingrays, I actually managed to kill a fish with my spear on my first shot we also caught like 15 fish in about the same amount of minutes with a regular rod.. it was amazing how quick they bite..unfortunately the other guys were to lazy to make a photo of me with the fish on my spear later we had the fish we catched ourselfes for dinner, which was really cool.
The second part of the trip was less funny for me, sharks and stingrays were literally swimming around us, because of the fish that was trown in the water. and we were swimming in the fish, I kind of paniced because especially those massive stingrays looked scary as **** and they were swimming around us. I pushed Vojtech in the water because he was even more pussy then us and didn’t want to go, with his go-pro and everything ready he swam back to the boat in like 3 seconds while making screams and noises, it was so funny to see him swimming like someone that never swam in deep water and tries to reach the ladder
not my photo unfortunately, but we need to replace the go-pro photo's with something right?
after 3 nights we decided to go back to Playa del Carmen, which was a tough decision we could have stayed longer for sure, and almost did, but when I got back I could still play during the weekend which was nice. The nightbus was around 11 hours drive but we slept most of the trip so I would recommend this!
Poker:
I’m definately happy with my year so far, volumewise I’m behind alot on my target, but since I’m focussing ~50% of my hours on studying I think that’s okay. Also I gain confidence to play highstakes, I haven’t played as high as 10-20 before much, so that’s good not sure if I’m +ev in those games but it’s always nice to test yourself, and if there is a good spot on a big fish it’s certainly +ev. I feel like I have improved and feel more motivated than the last months of last year that’s for sure. I haven’t checked my results at all this month, I just know that I played only around 17k hands and after a bad start this month I feel like I’m doing okay now, but I will post the results the end of this month.
I think as disgusting as it sounds you can proceed to check fold the turn. I might be wrong as I don´t know how big of a fish he is, but that Q is about the worst card in the deck.
bro this poker academie replayer is awful, altho 5k and 6k stacks at 1knl? not bad
great update
haha yeah you're right, can you PM me how I should post hands?

hmm i've been thinking about this and I don't agree, as you can see he calls a massive x/r for more than half his stack with just a gutshot, he's certainly capable of having like T9 or AT or something, also it's only 1/3 potbet left and I have 4 clean outs to the nuts if I'm behind
A few pokerplayers are leaving Playa, so we had a last party yesterday, I tried to drink a lot of water in between my drinks but I can still feel i'm not very fresh, which resulted in a few mistakes today
this is a clear mistake, I should call turn and pbb raise/fold most rivers against this player, it's not a fish. also it's a fold to his 3b on the turn, I don't see players bluffing here ever anyway I took a small break after this hand and still want to grind some hands today.
Final Pot: $1144.24
SB shows K K (a pair of Kings)
Hero shows A A (a pair of Aces)
Hero wins $1141.44
(Rake: $2.80)
this was a funny hand against weaker player yesterday, at the moment I thought he was bluffing, repping QQ JJ, but I think he just went for value here.
I also played quite some 500z this month, a strange hand from there, opinions?
Come back to Budapest and bring Alex and Konrad with you..
hey pat, funny I discussed with them about Budapest yesterday, I think they're both not going back, that's what they said yesterday. Konrad is going to Canada and Alex might stay in Mexico...
I might come back next year.. maybe we can get the crew back together then.
have you been playing any z500 lately? or just mtt's?
Don't check my results, only on the 15th/last day of the month. Achieved! Didn't even check until today, so 29 days of not checking results, I must say since I knew I was doing okay, it was much easier to not look.
Focus more on studying less on playing. Achieved! although I should study a bit more, I did learn a lot already. For next month I will make a new goal for this one
Still play around 30k hands. 27k hands, close enough I would say.
Finally play some tennis against a few poker players if you're in playa, send me a message! Achieved! I got crushed in the last 3 games of tennis (after winning the first 3 matches though), but I have good hope for the upcoming games.
furthermore I tilted slightly twice, maybe 1 time I really tilted that made me stop playing. optimally I should never tilt but this is almost impossible for me I had some injustice tilt and mistake tilt.
Results:
happy about my results overall, 9.2 EVbb/100 which is a nice upswing, ran hot at the higher stakes which is always good. I knew volume wasn't going to be that much this month because of the trip to Belize and studying. So overall nothing to complain
River: ($239.20) A (2 players)
SB bets $66.19, Hero raises to $222.63, SB raises to $619.14 all in, Hero calls $396.51
Final Pot: $1477.48
SB shows A A (a full house, Aces full of Nines)
Hero shows 9 7 (a full house, Nines full of Sevens)
SB wins $1474.68
(Rake: $2.80)
I was confused by his leads on the turn and riv, he's a good player so I think riv is a snapcall when he shoves, but it might be a flat on the riv since his leading range should be so polarized. feels stupid to lose 150bb in a limped pot..
Overview of February:
I'm happy that I went to playa del Carmen on the bootcamp with 2 other midstakes players, we helped eachother on our games and I think we all improved by so much.
I will be staying in Playa del Carmen for a little bit over a week,
After this I will go to Amsterdam (7th of March), probably have to live with my mum for some time and with my gf for some time.
A couple pokerfriends will come over for 2 festivals with easter, Awakenings easter and DGTL festival. It's going to be on the same location as in this video, always so sick when Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock play b2b. Looking forward to this
I'm going to look for an appartment with a non-poker friend of mine, he is a photographeo/video editer and will work a lot at home so this could be nice. I will spend a lot of time with my gf in March since we haven't seen eachother for 2 months!
Goals for March:
- Study 3 times a week for at least 2 hours per time.
- Don't check my results (only on the 15th and the 31st I'm allowed to)
- Play 45k hands, or play more highstakes 1k and 2k regular tables
- Play football and tennis for 1 or 2 times a week.
- Buy a ****ty motorbike for transportation between my mum/gf and sports. (I'm already saving money for a better motorbike, but as long as I don't have my own place with a garage it's not worth it)
- Maybe buy some games on steam (jk)
