Insomnia sounds a good reason to head out for a late night poker sesh.

Good luck in the V tourney.

I definitely agree with investing and growing your bankroll. I am invested in bitcoin, and when I have a minute / a few more dollars I'm looking to put some into stocks as well.

I'd be curious to hear more about your businesses, what worked and didn't work for you, and any advice you could give.

Cheers thanks for the support
PMAN:

I've worked 90%+ of my adult life in my own businesses. It has been tough...too tough sometimes. I've had some successes though, and I'm still going at it.

Some advice that I would give is that:

A). You need to work/do something you like. You don't have to be ecstatic to be doing it, but it is something that you've got to have GENUINE interest in and don't mind working long hours at it. You've also got to stay on top of industry trends.

B). You've got, Got, GOT to have an edge. How do you set yourself apart from your competition? Simply working harder is not really going to do it.
You've got to understand your competition. What is their level of education, what are their bankrolls & resources? What are they doing right, doing wrong? Are they rational in their pricing and business? How do you compare to that? How can you exploit your edge?

Different industries also have different levels of competition. Different industries also have different levels of profitability & potential. Be careful what you choose to work in.

C). Stay away from debt. I simply can't emphasize this enough. Only borrow money for things that will DIRECTLY produce income. Do NOT borrow for lifestyle...if you can't pay cash for it, don't buy it. This includes vehicles.

D). Which leads to having more capital than what you think you need. One of my huge mistakes has being frequently undercapitalized. It is a terrible thing to get 1/2, 2/3, 3/4 of the way into something and run out of capital. This is easier said than done, and I've made this mistake several times unfortunately.

E). If it is CLEAR that you have made a mistake...get out of it QUICK. Even if that means taking a loss, cut your losses relatively quickly.

F). Start up a retirement account ASAP. Put money into it right away. Once that money is in that account, it doesn't come out till retirement! I wish that I had done mine 10 years earlier.

G). Watch who you work with. The best things have happened when I've worked/partnered/collaborated with others. Some of the worst things have happened this way too. As the years have gone by, I've gotten MUCH better at this. Try your best, be fair, keep your reputation intact, even if it costs you.

H). The library is one of the best resources there is that most people don't take advantage of. Physically being in a library kind of forces you to stay focused (as opposed to being at home).

I). Learn about investing ASAP. Start investing ASAP....even if you make mistakes and lose a bit of $. If you are 24 and lose $500, that is not good...but in the grand scheme of things, it is very little. When you are young, it is more important to learn and especially learn from your mistakes. Of course, losing $500 is much different than losing $50,000. As long as your mistakes are not life altering, don't sweat it.

J). If everybody else is doing it, and everybody "knows" something, how do you get/keep an edge? Markets are generally efficient, but not always. This is in stocks, real estate, and business.

K). Money is very important, so incredibly important...but family and friends and doing the right thing is MORE important than $.

L). Be skeptical, and investigate on your own.

Sorry to be so rambling.

Good luck to you! Keep blogging, learning and networking!

- I love poker. I agree 100%.

B). You've got, Got, GOT to have an edge. How do you set yourself apart from your competition? Simply working harder is not really going to do it.

- Very good point. I have a few edges. Some i talk about, some i don't.

C). Stay away from debt. I simply can't emphasize this enough. Only borrow money for things that will DIRECTLY produce income. Do NOT borrow for lifestyle...if you can't pay cash for it, don't buy it. This includes vehicles.

- Agree 100%, i haven't been in debt since I was a teen lol.

D). Which leads to having more capital than what you think you need. One of my huge mistakes has being frequently undercapitalized. - Working on this, might take up a part time job doing data entry to help pay the bills.

E). If it is CLEAR that you have made a mistake...get out of it QUICK. Even if that means taking a loss, cut your losses relatively quickly.

- Also strongly agree. I used to degen hard in the pits, especially online casinos. Cut that **** cold and have been hapy.

F). Start up a retirement account ASAP. Put money into it right away. Once that money is in that account, it doesn't come out till retirement! I wish that I had done mine 10 years earlier.

- I've been researching this on and off the past couple of months actually. I have to talk to some people and figure some stuff out, but yeah the thought of a roth IRA + investing in like the s&p 500 seems good.

G). Watch who you work with. The best things have happened when I've worked/partnered/collaborated with others. Some of the worst things have happened this way too. As the years have gone by, I've gotten MUCH better at this. Try your best, be fair, keep your reputation intact, even if it costs you.

- you keep spitting truth. absolutely. alot of life is who you know.

H). The library is one of the best resources there is that most people don't take advantage of. Physically being in a library kind of forces you to stay focused (as opposed to being at home).

- one thing i might disagree with you on. i'm too ADD for an actual library and book. i prefer audio books and the internet. i always educate myself though. i listen / read every night.

- No comment really, good questions.

K). Money is very important, so incredibly important...but family and friends and doing the right thing is MORE important than $.

- Amen!!!

L). Be skeptical, and investigate on your own.

- Always.

Sorry to be so rambling.

- I appreciate you very much. It took you time and effort to think of all that and write it down for me. I don't see it as a ramble, I see it as a ton of free advice. Thank you.

Pman:

One thing I forgot to mention is to use EXTREME caution with Bitcoin and crypto-currencies.

I was actively investing during the "dot.com" bubble. The current market surpasses that in it's excess.

The speculation is not limited to just crypto-currencies. There are plenty of stocks that are "silly" in their valuations.

Real estate has been exploding too. Here in Detroit, real estate prices have been going up for several years now. Heck, I know some people who have houses that are worth MORE than what they paid for them!!!

I own some commercial buildings and just 2 blocks away, there is NEW CONSTRUCTION. I've never seen anything like it, just wild.

So if the Detroit market is doing well, you know things are getting wild & woolly.

Liked the new vlog short and sweet. 4 minute updates are nice, no reason for filler of a bunch of Vegas strip shots we’ve seen a million times.

Sorry for the losses. It kind of feels like you where pushing the action a bit too much with your mid pair semi bluff and getting it all-in with TPTK. No reason to rush it, you’re not a tourist anymore that needs to catch a flight in two hours. Ha and yes I know I’m the guy that’s been nagging you to get in volume.

Wondering if the Wynn room isn’t more reg heavy with the low limit grinders. Maybe give it another go when they open back up at Encore in a couple days. If the game doesn’t suit you lucky for you plenty of other places on the strip and elsewhere. I’d still recommend checking out the GN, I personally like that room.

DTETD is giving out that kind of advice you rolled your eyes at as a younger person and then you get older and realize he just rolled out the playbook that if you follow you will be successful, much respect sir.

I am also a Christian and a poker player, some of the best work you can do comes in the most unlikeliest places. Very cool, pman you gotta a fan here for sure.

It was bad man. I was on button. Folds to my right. He makes it 10. I make it 30. SB calls. all fold.

Flop Q9 4? He x, i bet $40. He calls.

Turn K. He x, I bet $75, he calls.

River J. Flush and straight get there. He x, i jam for another 150 or so. He does not fold. Calls with AQ no flush blockers >

Thanks! I enjoy making the 4-10min vlogs as well. I am not going to be filling my **** with B-roll or taking hours to edit my videos. Just doing my thing.

Yes, i agree i don't need to rush hands. The A9 was not a good play, I'll admit that!

Wynn does have reg heavy at the 1/3 because its deep. I will check that out. Lately i've been grinding the super soft sahara. Will check out GN when I feel up for it. Thanks man.

I like DTETD's advice for the most part. Nobody's really given bad advice. I personally disagree with people saying I should be vlogging; I want to make friends and have fun, not gain clout and be fake.

That's awesome you're a Christian, God bless my friend. I am glad you enjoy my content. I agree; there is alot of good that can be done in the poker community

Super interesting hand. A bit hard to review without knowing the specific suits on the board but I'll try:

Pre if this is A9o, just fold this junky hand. Even on a 9 high board there are so many shitty runouts for this hand. If villain is opening wide you could 3bet at some frequency but with the understanding that you might step in it from time to time...with that being said, probably best to just fold.

Pre, if this is A9 sooted I'm more than happy to call the small raise and play a pot in position, potentially multiway (this is assuming there isn't a lot of 3betting going on from the blinds).

Flop, played fine.

Turn, this is where you really went awry. This is like pretty much the nut low turn card for your hand so you shouldn't be putting chips in here. The most obvious draw hit. Gutshots KJ KT just hit top pair with a straight draw. QJ and QT now have straight draws to go along with their superior pairs.

River, I think this is a mandatory jam. One problem with it though is that it may not make a lot of sense to villain. Also a big part of the reason it didn't work is probably because you milked the villain on previous streets for so much of his stack. When players put in a lot of money into the pot, in this case $145, over multiple streets they become emotionally attached to the pot. You're asking him to fold for $150 when he's already invested $145 into the pot. For a bad undisciplined player that may be asking too much.

If we had checked back the turn, the villain would have been far less emotionally invested in this pot and is more likely to release his hand...plus our line makes more sense as a rivered straight/flush (ie if we were stealing wouldn't we have bet the turn?)

It was soooooted!

I figured if I went for 3 streets my hand would look strong, like an AK / KQ / draws. I don't hate checking back the turn, especially because we are in position and can see the river for free. When its a scare card we can bomb it. I'm still not sure he folds, but as I said i'm not in love with how i played this hand.
