Hi guys,

I just quit my job a few days ago, will work till the end of the month and then plan is to play full time.

I started playing poker back in 2008. and never stopped. Started at lowest limits and SLOWLY moved up, highest up to nl200, but then moved back to nl100 and that's where I'm now.

I play at GG poker at the moment and plan is to play a lot and work hard on my game.

I've been playing poker for a long time, but it was always a combination of working at office 9-5 and after that playing as much as I can, this will be the first time that I will have enough time to work on my game as much as I want and to play as much as I want.

Main goal would be to get to nl200 as soon as possible, and later to move to nl500, maybe by the end of the next year,

yeah, that's the plan, plan is to play 5-6 hours a day, will see how much will that bring from leaderboards...

This weekend I've tested how much I can play in a day, I've pushed more then I plan to just to see how it goes.

I've played >9h total, mostly 6 regular tables. Felt a bit burn out other day, still not sure what would be optimal, how much time to spend poker wise a day and what ratio to put study/playing.

How do you guys do it, how much time do you spend a day on poker if you play poker full time for living?

100hrs/month is a good baseline. Take 1 or 2 days off a week. Make sure to set up a study routine. I try to grind minimum 4 hours/day which isn't always so simple with a wife and kids. If you are single/no kids then there is no excuse to not hit minimum 100hrs/month. 6 tabling regs thT should equal out to 60-70k hands. That's pretty good volume.

Crazy to think about how poker has changed. I remember when I was 18 and playing 12 tables for 12 hours a day. That was in 400,600,1kNL games.

Now I can barely handle 4 tables of 200NL and some 500NL for 4-5 hours a day.

GL OP on your poker journey. I'm thinking of quitting my 9-5 to chase the dream again.

It's not easy to do from the States given the sites we have if you arent in NJ/NV/PA/MI basically.

i personally spend 10+ hrs on poker a day or 300+ a month- but it's not for everyone

there's 24 hours in a day it doesn't have to be unreasonable if it's important to you and you don't have any other commitments etc

on average 50/50~ playing vs everything else but varies quite drastically and i give myself flexibility

from my understanding- the less time you spend on poker the more important the scheduling stuff becomes and vice versa as you're not just doing poker all the time then

a) if I don't take days off
b) if I play to much hours a day, I feel like I might burn out after some time...

Yeah, this is problem, also, problem is that there, standard is higher then where I live, how much would you say you need to earn a month in order to play full time poker and have solid living out of it?

$65,000 a year minimum. So about $5,500 to $6,000 a month. I'm an hour outside NYC- a pretty affluent area with a wife and 2 kids.

Ideally, I'd need to come closer to $90,000 to be able to afford vacations, college savings, retirement savings, among other things. Wife doesn't work(much) besides watching neighbors' children for 2-3 hours a day.

Makes the poker dream/lifestyle that much more difficult.
