Sounds like the Rio is hopping. Don't kill off all the PLO games before I get there in a few days!

For some people the poker lifestyle is a perfect fit but for others it's not. I never understand why persons who don't fit the lifestyle try to convince everyone that they don't fit the lifestyle either.

There's a huge thread in NVG about that and it went full blown ******ed. Their logic is "Well because I quit poker and I'm now happy, you should quit poker now too". Thanks for the concern???? LOLz.

I always appreciate well-intentioned advice. Also I won't forget your post in another thread about how everyone usually likes something new for the first couple years no matter if it's switching to, or from poker.

Up $616 in a 2 hour Aria session, 2/5 PLO. My very first hand got it in crushing for $500 and doubled a guy up, my 2nd hand I rebought and stacked the guy i just doubled.

It starts at 4 PM, seats are almost sold out so I'm not sure if you can book a seat by phone but if you wanna play you need to book by today.

I'm back in my Rio room. Going to spend the next 1 hour relaxing and watching How I Met Your Mother, amazing show.

Just called in and they said 2 seats left. Ran there and took the last spot.

Are the 5/10nl games worth traveling to vegas for 5-6 days? Having trouble deciding if it is worth spending $500 on airfare and however many hundreds on hotel just to play a series event and grind 5/10.

well it depends where you're from, but the 5/10 NL games are probably about average compared to a random 5/10 NL game anywhere in the country (I'm guessing)

Just need to say that though I'm female and well older than you, Don, sometimes, reading your thread, I just want to be you.

The way I see it you're a thinking man, in your poker life and beyond, with skills and leap-off-the-learning-curve guts.

Enjoy LV and keep it up.

Hmm, a lot of my friends are jealous of the "make (seemingly) lots of money, playing a fun card game, living wherever I want, waking up whenever I want, etc.", and I definitely feel blessed in life but hey I have my issues too The main one right now is that I've come to realize I suck at being single haha.

HEATER CONTINUES. Played 3 hours up $3203. I'm proud of myself for doing an A+ job table selecting, although I probably tilted some people since I sat at the first available, played about 1 orbit and moved to the 2nd best table when a seat opened, then moved to the best table without even playing a hand at the 2nd table.

I'm kind of disappointed in myself that I passed up a very +EV spot since I wanted to reduce variance, at the last table I had a whale sitting 1500bb deep to my immediate right. I only bought in for 400bb instead of covering... then had a hand where I definitely would have gotten all 1500bb if I had decided to cover. Obviously it could go the other way too where I get stacked, but yea in terms of EV buying in for 1500bb would have been A+.

In fact, that's why I chose to play the $240 tourney tomorrow- to take a break from the variance (even though it's going in my favor).

I made a fold getting 7:1 for the first time ever in my entire poker career. I bet $100 into $200 on the flop, turn check/check, river he checks I bet $100 into $400 and old black guy villain minraises to $200. I have AAxx, board is Q4346r.

Seen some pretty crazy stuff happen too, might write about it later. Sleep time for now.

Actually in retrospect I don't mind my decision to not cover. I'd still go to bed pretty happy if I lost $2500, but I'd be in a much ****tier mood if I lost $7500. I'm not sure if it's due to what happened at Palomar or what, but recently I've been more scared of the 5-5 PLO variance than ever before. My bankroll can take it, I just... don't want to.

Some other interesting things...

-didn't pay time for like 3 hours straight for 1 session since we had a guy at the table who would just say they already dropped it every time a floor person walked by. system seems pretty easily exploitable lol

-saw a guy in SB who objected to a BTN straddle since "cards were already dealt". he was a irritating super nit who just didn't want to act first, probably over 50 years old. He refused to act, instead called floor who did rule that the straddle had to be taken back. A young guy at the table absolutely flipped out saying he's been doing this stuff all day (I had just got to the table so I didn't know), and they challenged eachother to a HU match. AFAIK they actually played 2-7 PL TD for a bit... it was funny because you could tell the old guy REALLY didn't want to but didn't want to back down even more. I'm actually shocked they ended up even playing, I offered a prop bet to my tablemates that they would both back out and no one took it.

Oh, also we paid $7 time for about 4 hands during this half hour. I was thinking about complaining but already had a nit image from waiting to come in behind BTN instead of on the BB, so didn't say anything (normally doing this isn't a big deal but I ended up waiting like 20 minutes for 2 hands at the pace of this game with everyone yelling at each other). It was a sick game though, worth it.

-apparently it's very easy to sell seats. I have no idea what's the best way to go about this without looking like an douche, but you can probably easily make over $100/hr on average just signing up for PLO/Big O games and selling your seat for like $25 to some impatient action junky.

-this is the best tip I can offer anyone who is regularly playing at the Rio.
Ask the floormen for food comps and tip them $5 every session you play (if there are multiple floormen, ask all of them once per session). I didn't know about this last year, but this tip from Robocop will save me hundreds this year.

-note to myself, I need to try to stay relaxed and play my A game. Most recent session was A game, but for example two of biggest pots I've won here I made a mistake in both of them (the KK43ss and the KJ87ss). Funnily enough I wouldn't have won nearly as much if I played the hand correctly.

Do you think doing that would actually work on a consistent basis? I know people don't usually do their jobs, but this seems to me the most important thing a floor would have to keep track of.

Down $675 in 1 hour of 1/2 PLO. Made a marginal call after a bet/raise all in from 2 players in front of me with naked NFD 3 ways, ran equities and it was correct.

Going to Caesar's now
