My real life friends have great poker tips...

"I think if you ever win a million dollars in a single hand of poker, you should change your name to Don Bling. that is all"

Very upset at myself, tilted off almost $3k I shouldn't have lost making mistakes in 2 different big pots. Don't really want to talk about them in detail. Basically raise/folded myself off 35% equity in the first one, then bluffcatched in one of the worst spots ever to bluffcatch in for the second.

Down $4k in 7 hours. Soooooo mad at myself. ****

LA total: $73867, 533 hours.

Hang in there man, we all have bad days. Just don't let it turn into anything bigger. Come back better.

Don't beat yourself up. Doubt that there are many LA grinders who are up 70k+ so far in 2013.

Don has been interviewed at least once on LATB. I think it was by Tuchman and it seemed more like a quiz than anything. At the time Tuchman was interested in finding out leaks in Don's game.

Not many people knew of Don's challenge thread at that time.

ty. it just hurts telling people I basically lit $3k on fire yesterday. I mean fk thats a lot

~~

Regarding LATB, heh yea I'm kind of nervous, besides the one time I did half a show with Tuchman (Nichole was in the booth too, although she was really just looking at baby pictures), I've never really done anything like this. Hope it goes alright

I've lit 8.5k on fire in one hand before, so I know the feeling.

Good news is that it doesn't hurt after taking a brief (2-3 days?) break. Enjoy San Diego and then crush poker again.

You mainly need to be yourself, not try to be some cool commentator. I suggest you pretend your are sitting at the table talking to Marvin or Limon (or any other reg).

Never hurts to take a day or two off when you're pissed at yourself for a bad session.

Also, +1 to ATsai in that I doubt there are many other LA grinders that can boast the impressive 2013 results that you can.

I've done a few shows and each time I was more comfy. First time I gave good analysis but was pretty visibly nervous and didn't let much personality out. Good luck.
I'm looking forward to getting back to grinding the PLO game. 1 more week left in my hiatus from LA poker.

Thanks for the comments guys. Replies in no particular order:

Since I whined about my 2012 results being negatively skewed by 10/25 NLHE at Meadows, it's only fair to post a reminder that my 2013 results are positively skewed by 25/50/200 with J.

The PLO game at Bike is the best game in town =P

Went to a Krav Maga class today, was pretty fun! As for the weekend, girlfriend went to undergrad in San Diego and has a whole bunch of stuff planned to do, so will be easy to keep the mind off poker for a bit. I was originally planning to go down a couple days early, stay in a hotel and check out the casinos, but probably not going to do that after tilting off $3k to Kenny Tran from my last session.

Also crushing League of Legends solo Q too.

Hello Aesah,

Been inspiring reading your thread and seeing you go from playing 1/3 to 25/50 PLO and crushing.

I am also trying to grind out a decent bankroll. You mention that you need to really love the game in order to really get this pro thing working out. Do you think Omaha has a lot to contribute to that? In other words, do you think that you could still be very passionate about the game if you can only play NLHE? I am asking because Omaha only runs on the weekends in New England.

Another question, can you reveal more about how your day to day schedule looks like? You say you work 5 hours a week on your gov't job. What else do you do in your day? How much time do you spend from leaving your house to Casino and then back per day?

How do you balance your social life? Being a poker professional can be really socially isolating and I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. (Yes, poker has played a role in side tracking my social life.) You seem like you have a hang of how to balance this already.

Thanks.

Posting from phone so briefly:

I like NLHE just as much as Omaha

i like sports, sightseeing/hiking, video games, board games, studying poker, etc.

Compared to other jobs, poker is actually easier to meet people! However I use meetup.com, been to about ~10 so far and they've all been really successful

I haven't found this to be true. I think you have to make more of an effort than most jobs if you want to meet people (who aren't degens).

That said, poker houses / couchsurfing / meetup.com / hostels are great options for poker players
