Ok that is what I thought but just wanted to make sure. Had it been the other case bobby would have beat me to my questions.

Now to ponder...

Is it something like where you ask one of the daughters, "If I asked you if you were the oldest daughter, would you say yes?" or something like that. I think I've heard a variation of this riddle before but I'm not sure.

Ahh, nevermind. I think that way is for if there's only one who lies and one who tells the truth. Not so sure with the one that may lie or may tell the true lol

First post on this site ever, after like a year of reading the forums. Being that this is my first post, I feel it's only right to talk about the best parts of this amazing thread. And that is every post that Aesah has mentioned League of Legends. Add me, my username is "bronze six" (currently gold 4 but climbing).

By the way man, I'm only @ page 77 of this thread but it's great. Well done. I'm in a similar boat that you were when you first started. I grew up around poker games. Every holiday all my family members would play variations of stud and omaha. I've been playing since I was 10 years old (28yrs old now).

Decided to give doing it for a living a shot. I've done it before, but unfortunately I was young and stupid (drugs and alcohol with my winnings, played under the influence, bought like 30 pairs of Jordans, let women control my life, never recorded my hours, was just a dumbass etc.)

Anyways, that was years ago and I've kicked those habits. Up $825 in 11 hours @ 1-2! Rofl. I'm going to start posting a bit more about my life once I hit 5k, as I feel like I'll have a solid foundation at that point to roll with it.

I agree those are the best parts as well. Literally the first thing I did when I got internet in San Diego was play a game of LoL. Needed the relaxation after driving 2000 miles then spending like 5 days straight shopping/setting up stuff/etc., and it was WORTH

Just be careful, if your roll is under $5k there is a realistic chance that you'll go busto even if you are a winning player/stay on your A-game/don't tilt. As long as you're aware of that, I'm not one to talk anyone out of taking shots as long as you don't depend on that money.

I can't resist pointing out that this is exactly equivalent to asking "are you the oldest daughter"

The problem with this (and with pretty much any other question you could ask) is that you have no idea how the middle daughter would respond. EV-wise, "are you the oldest daughter" has a greater likelihood of netting you the oldest or youngest one than the middle daughter, but still not a sure thing.

Ask daughter 1 "Is daughter 2 younger than daughter 3?"

If youngest replies no, you want 1 and 3
If middle replies no, you want 2 and 3
If oldest replies no, you want 1 and 3
So you pick daughter 3.

If youngest replies yes, you want 1 and 2
If middle replies yes, you want 2 and 3
If oldest replies yes, you want 1 and 2
So you pick daughter 2.

That is the correct solution! Well done!

The main epiphany in this puzzle is that you cannot marry the same daughter you ask the question to since she could always potentially be the middle daughter no matter what she says.

I thought there was a riddle where you had to ask a question in this kind of format ... unless I am not remembering correctly (which probably is the case lol). I think it had to do with one guard who always lied, and one who always told the truth and they were both blocking doors (one lead you to freedom, the other did not). I'm not sure, hmmm.

If you have two guards that always lie, and one door leading to freedom with the other leading to death, and can only ask 1 guard 1 question:

"What would the other guard say if I asked him if this door led to freedom?". Then choose the other door.

Ahhh, yeah that's it. I got confused because you could ask the question as, "If I were to ask the other guard if this door leads to freedom, what would he say?"

I forgot about the whole part of asking the person you were talking to about the other person, oops my bad lol

I've also seen labyrinth

I've never really understood this though

Surely if both guards always lie you just straight-up ask which door leads to freedom and pick the other one?

This is correct answer to the question I posted in this thread.

However, I meant to post 1 that always lies and 1 that always tells the truth lol

I dunno what labyrinth is but that puzzle is older than motion pictures

What do you not understand? If you just didn't understand it because I misphrased the question then yea oops.Otherwise, basically the idea behind these both puzzles is you need a logic gate that leads to the same output no matter what the input is.

In labyrinth I think the idea is one guard always tells the truth and one always lies

Hi again, Aesah! Enjoy the thread, but curious to a deeper logic to above partial post (I'm making my way through the thread obviously). Why do consider voting meaningless? I am assuming (due to you being a logical person afterall) its more profound than something to the effect of "because I'm one out of millions..." Care to expand/enlighten?
