Well, to be fair, you probably fold T5o as well.

Just raised a flop lead with T9ss on T63ddx and bet an Ad turn for value and got called by worse (yes my game is good), then folded QQ to a BTN 3-bet and got shown AA in back to back hands. Love live poker exploitability at its extremes!

I thought this guy was decent enough to where I can't profitably set mine him. The argument against it is that if he just folds, then you can call and rep a set by c/r'ing and barreling off with air, however that's not entirely true since they'll be calling sometimes and folding sometimes so that isn't necessarily profitable either (furthermore, they'll hit TOP set by the river ~20% of the time too!)

I play fairly balanced myself in this spot if I call with a pocket pair, I'll rep a set when I miss occasionally.

At any rate, it's a pretty ridiculously high variance play if your opponent is decent postflop at all which I thought this guy was despite his face-up preflop 3-bet range, and I didn't feel like messing with it.

Forgot to post yesterday's session update, 8 hour session, up $2866. Mostly 5/10 NLHE.

This session was good too. Up $1180 in 11 hours, mostly 5/10 NLHE with a bit of PLO/PLO8 sprinkled in. Surprisingly enough, I got 5/10 HU NLHE action AGAIN from 2 different players. No idea how this keeps happening recently but I'll take it! 1st villain was 3-betting only AQ+/TT+ while defending 100% of BBs vs. 5x opens then having a bluff frequency of like 1 every 20 hands... great game.

2nd villain was fun too. Couple hands:

Hand 1: Villain limps, hero checks BB with 65.

Flop T65, pot $20
Hero leads $20, villain raises to $70, hero raises to $270, villain raises to $700 all in, hero calls. Board bricks out, villain shows a T and mucks.

Hand 2: Villain straddles, hero raises to $70 from BB with KQ, villain calls.

Flop Q73, pot $140
Hero checks, villain bets $100, hero calls.

Turn 3, pot $340
Hero checks, villain jams for $375, hero calls.

River 8, pot $1090
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU TERRIBLE RIVER. nvm MHIG anyway.

Just the free parts lol. I mean I'm generally a pretty rational/logical person but for some reason I dunno, I'm not when it comes to poker rungood/runbad. Now that I mention it like that it's actually sort of strange.

Mental game has always been my biggest weakness.

Don't be so down on yourself. EVERYONE is affected when running bad, its how you handle it that counts.

Couple things I think about when running bad.

Everything reverts to the mean. You admittedly ran like god in the beginning, you hit draws etc. Now you are not running like god, but nobody runs good forever. I guess that means if you feel like you're not running "good", pass on the small +EV but high variance situations. This is to avoid going further into poker depression.

Nobody runs bad forever either, but I think how you handle the run bads is HIGHLY underrated. Not letting yourself do stupid **** during this period is very important, as we get frustrated much easier.

Try to "start over" mentally. Think to yourself I've won xxxxx dollars lifetime and I'm gonna play poker. Don't let yourself think about what's recently happened, just remember you are playing with previous winnings and just focus on playing good.

I know I have a low post count and all, but I've been doing this on/off since I was 18. I'm 39 now, I've seen it all.....

Good luck and don't be so down on yourself

Played a couple 2/5 NLHE sessions at Lake Elsinore and a session at Pechanga. Total up $1500-ish in 15 hours-ish.

Games so soft and loose passive out here. 3bets are only AK/JJ+, and very common to see guys check/call with any pair 3 streets but only value bet AK on K-high boards for 1 street. fk'ing hilarious. The more I play in these "random" locations the more I'm convinced that best poker locations are:

1. random places where most of the player base has never used the internet
2. Florida
3. LA
4. everywhere else
5. Macau

On a smaller scale during the WSOP all of the "other" casinos have spectacular NL games.

Lake Elsinore hotel staff is troll as fk, 3:30 AM and we've had guys sitting out in the HALLWAY of the hotel (it's not even that big so literally disturbing 100% of guests) drunk and yelling for the past few hours (it's OK for me as I'm not trying to sleep, but I've seen some elderly people around who almost certainly are).

I mean if I'm stuck in the room next door I understand it's a "deal with it" situation as quieting them down is basically impossible and kicking them out is too harsh- we've all been there- but really, in the hallway?

To be painfully clear, you feel Macau has the worst poker games in the world?

Any market where there is a recent boom in the local economy (follow energy booms, etc)

-or-

Any market that cannot sustain full time pros (or can only support a few and for a short time).

... will always be the best games. You will likely find a local or two that has figured out how to be a compete nit and make bank, but that is about it.

(Earlier topic - Tommy Angelo well worth paying for the material, A+)

Well, I suppose it can't be considering there are places that rake over 10% uncapped, but Macau seemed pretty unprofitable at any limit under a $2k min buy-in in my time there

Played with you at Pechanga and Lake Elsinore Sunday and Monday. Sorry for harping on you during a downswing earlier. You played well and the games weren't as good as they usually are. There's very few good players in the IE. A lot of bad nits and whales. Few in between. See you around
