Hey guys, I'm just a plo2 "rec" that enjoys playing for a couple of hours here and there for fun. I used to play pvp mmos years ago for hours on end but they eventually lost their magic and poker fills that nub pwning/time wasting itch I get at times.

Lately I have found myself trying to learn and play past the basics, and I just got a $40 instant cash bonus and 10 $1 spin and go tickets that I turned into $15 cash, so I'm going to spend a few hours studying and then use that money to take a variance free shot at the next level up, plo5.

I'm starting a log because I used to workout, and it wasn't until I started a detailed health and workout log on a bodybuilding forum that I started to make real progress and understand what I was doing. I found it highly motivating aswell because I didn't want to be that inconsistent noob on the forum that was spinning his wheels, so it pushed me to improve, lol.

I have an app called cold turkey and a pomodoro timer setup to study, so I'm about to eat and then get some focused learning in, although nothing is stopping me from grabbing another laptop to look at memes and porn.

Past few sessions of plo2:

I'm only used to playing 1 table for an hour or 2, but that is something I will improve on over time aswell as a million other things. No point trying to start out by doing everything at once like many people do, the ones that don't fail make mediocre progress at best, so I want to avoid that trap.

Most of my study right now is on preflop opening and 3bet ranges, with some light work on flop continuing ranges.

My VPIP is 34, PFR is 18, 3bet is slightly under 4, but 4bet is over 7.

I 'm already 3betting most AA, premium KK, some double suited rundowns, connected pairs and pretty high card hands, but my current 3bet percentage isn't adding up with my 3bet ranges, and my 4bet is almost double that of my 3bet.

Are my 3bet/4bet ranges being heavily affected by the number of limped pot situations and also extremely tight openers (the 10/5 types) where I am flatting more of my weak AA, most KK and connected high card hands since I am not pushing any equity preflop against those players? Or am I just a nit?

Been putting a ton of work into my game so I can pwn some newbs at plo5 and built a sick HUD with too many numbers on. Have not played much for this reason, but feel way way more confident in alot of spots I previously struggled with.

I will post some hands below with thought process, constructive criticism is welcome!

There are still a lot of basic preflop spots I am mixed up on, like this hands against UTG open:

Hand 1

PokerStars - $0.05 PL Hi FAST (6 max) - Omaha Hi - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: $5.00
SB: $6.04
BB: $11.49
UTG: $5.22
MP: $5.00
Hero (CO): $8.24

SB posts SB $0.02, BB posts BB $0.05

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.07) Hero has K 6 5 7

UTG raises to $0.17, fold, hero?

Preflop

I am not sure what to do with this hand because I'm not crushing that many boards against UTG, but hand has great playability in 3bet pot, but not pushing any equity against UTG range by 3betting, and hand loses alot of playability in multiway pot. I will have position alot of the times though, so playability will go up and flatting might be best? Or 3bet? Haha, I am at a loss. What about if we are MP?

Hand 2

PokerStars - $0.05 PL Hi FAST (6 max) - Omaha Hi - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: $21.67
SB: $10.23
Hero (BB): $7.13
UTG: $5.04
MP: $7.37
CO: $12.76

SB posts SB $0.02, Hero posts BB $0.05

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.07) Hero has 7 8 K 5

fold, fold, CO raises to $0.17, fold, fold, Hero calls $0.12

Flop: ($0.36, 2 players) 3 9 4
Hero checks, CO bets $0.35, Hero raises to $1.05, CO calls $0.70

Turn: ($2.46, 2 players) Q
Hero bets $1.60, fold

Spoiler:
Hero wins $2.36
Rake paid $0.10

Preflop
I think is ok this deep and closing action, but again really similar hand to above and I am at abit of a loss on flat/3bet.

Flop
Folding is weak but c/c looks like worst option, leading could be good against tight villain with low flop cbet though? I opted to raise, flop is so dry that villain will stab alot and hand has alot of turn playability if he continues. Not sure on my sizing, should go abit bigger this deep? Sizing is something I have yet to work on.

Turn
Bad card if villain is floating flop with 9 and overs, and again think I should go abit bigger with my bet sizing, but i think this is a card I have to continue on. Villain will have some overpairs he floated with, KJ89 type hands, pair plus oesd, and two pair on flop is in a tough spot, and I can still hit my 6, hearts, and shove a ton of blank rivers.

Hand 3

PokerStars - $0.05 PL Hi FAST (6 max) - Omaha Hi - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: $13.62
SB: $2.82
Hero (BB): $5.00
UTG: $1.01
MP: $4.62
CO: $9.26

SB posts SB $0.02, Hero posts BB $0.05

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.07) Hero has K 2 Q A

UTG raises to $0.17, fold, CO calls $0.17, fold, fold, Hero calls $0.12

Flop: ($0.53, 3 players) 5 Q J
Hero checks, UTG checks, CO bets $0.51, Hero calls $0.51, fold

Turn: ($1.55, 2 players) 8
Hero checks, CO bets $0.99, Hero calls $0.99

River: ($3.53, 2 players) 3
Hero checks, CO checks

Spoiler:
Hero shows K 2 Q A (One Pair, Queens)
(Pre 38%, Flop 34%, Turn 35%)
CO shows Q K K J (Two Pair, Queens and Jacks)
(Pre 62%, Flop 66%, Turn 65%)
CO wins $3.39
Rake paid $0.14

This hand, hm. Didn't like any of my options on flop and think I should jam turn against this bet sizing. Villain could very well be potting flop with a weak holding hoping to just get it in with UTG and push me out. On turn I think if I had a similar holding with a T I would shove, or top pair with oesd and fd I like shoving more. But the more I think about his protective pot size on flop and then weak turn bet, ah, I should have shoved here.

Hand 4

PokerStars - $0.05 PL Hi FAST (6 max) - Omaha Hi - 6 players

BTN: $8.38
SB: $5.03
BB: $4.80
UTG: $4.11

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.07) Hero has 8 J 7 T

Flop: ($0.32, 2 players) 8 9 7

BB checks, Hero bets $0.55, BB calls $0.55

River: ($1.82, 2 players) 4
BB checks, Hero bets $1.15, BB calls $1.15

Whole hand is standard I feel, I bet relatively small on river to try get value from a smaller straight.

Reason for posting is because I'm wondering what you would do on river if we get shoved on? Feel it would be a pretty sick spot holding 78. I think villain has enough hands he can turn into a bluff here that I call, lower straights with a pair in his hand on flop, oesd, oesd with fd, gutshot with fd and pair.. What you think?

Played just 1 table today at plo2 zoom as I have alot of stats on players and wanted to learn my HUD and work on 3betting more. Think I played abit too loosely as I ended the session playing 41/25/12 (vpip/pfr/3bet), but there were so many extremely tight players and players not defending their blinds that it might not be so bad to play this loose when the table conditions allow it.

Some funny hands from today

I wasn't going to log today, only played 200 hands and some fifty50 games and tourneys,

but I won 30 bucks burning my coins so I had to log it.

Spent 3hours building a popout for my HUD and found some really exploitable players, like really exploitable! I feel a little guilty sometimes but I suspect most players have HUDs now so I can't feel that badly about exploiting them.

Still studying and learning alot of new stuff, and still playing plo2 but I like it right now during this learning phase I'm in because 1)I have alot of stats on some regulars and I can learn to use my HUD more effectively 2)I'm very over rolled for plo2 so I can very comfortably apply new strategies, test new concepts and make cheap mistakes without worrying about the effect it has on my bankroll 3) my preflop 3bet problems are real.

I'm studying atleast 90% and playing only around 10%, but after this week I'm going to split my time more evenly between playing and studying. My game and thought process have advanced a ton locking it down though!

Few hands from today. Critiques welcome.

River: I expected an A or 2pair to bet turn, block KK, QQ, so thought he would have alot of 4x and 8x hands I could fold out that he would otherwise checkback and win with.. Not sure about this though, and think I should bet abit smaller if I am bluffing this card since he's either folding/calling.

Made a few mistakes today in some really obvious spots, I was clicking without thinking and not paying attention to stack sizes, board textures, and a couple of times misread my hand.

I saw in another PGC a player using a rating system for his game. This is some D+ game on the turn and a clear example of clicking without thinking what he could have and what I block him from having.

Haven't studied at all in the past 3-4 days, except for spending a few hours reading in the SSPLO subforum, but I will stop that and go back to my own study.

At first I thought it was a good idea to read the strategy in SSPLO subforum, but there are too many beginners giving advice(I'm guilty of doing this), and there have been many posts I've completely disagreed with and others where I'm not so sure, but I'm soaking up everything I read and it's having a negative effect on the way I think about my own strategy.

I mean no disrespect to those who post, there are some great posters, but it's too much of a headache for me to read atm.

Seaking did give me some great advice to start playing reg tables and that's something I'm going to do, I already played 2 tables for a couple of hours today and it's a very different and very fun environment compared to zoom.

I'm going to set goals for the next week to get myself back on track and stay on track. I'll update again later.

+400 mtt hands

plo5
75% at normal tables
25% zoom

This is by far my biggest volume day ever and I plan on putting in alot more of these. I found out that if I play mtts while playing my normal session, I put in way more volume cause I'm forced to play for the duration of the mtts, haha, fu procrastination.

I think I figured out what has been missing from my study to really bring everything together, it's actually playing and working on my realtime thought processes. I have a ton of free time coming up so I'm really going to focus on putting in time at the tables and trying to move up now. I think I will set aside a day to study and review hands, and just keep a notepad next to me while playing to write down problem spots I still need to work on. Maybe spend 30 minutes before a session reviewing some hands and getting my mind in the right place.

I also got some awesome advice from 2+2'r I talked to yesterday day which is going to change my whole approach to the game. It got me thinking about the game in a different way and now I'm super motivated to make some changes and leave nitville for robusto.

Played alot of mtts today with 1-2 plo5 tables going at times. I think there is alot of value to be made playing micro/low limit level mtts, and they are good for learning preflop equities and playing with a low spr at the later levels.

I'm really trying to work on playing more tables at once, and I feel like mtts are good for that too because they provide the lowest variance when learning how to multitable. Mistakes aren't as expensive, hands come abit slower, and I can autopilot abit more compared to cash games, but I still have to focus my attention on each individual table and all the tables as a whole. I don't know if this makes sense, it could be a mental thing, but when playing the same amount of cash game tables as what I would be plaaying in an mtt and I'm in a hand on all tables at the same time with my timebank bleeping, I'm like:

Here's an interesting spot I will leave you with for today, it might be the nittiest fold ever.

PokerStars - $0.05 PL Hi (6 max) - Omaha Hi - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: $6.50
SB: $5.48
BB: $5.42
Hero (UTG): $8.62
CO: $4.08

SB posts SB $0.02, BB posts BB $0.05

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.07) Hero has K T 9 K

Hero raises to $0.15, fold, BTN calls $0.15, SB calls $0.13, BB calls $0.10

Flop: ($0.60, 4 players) 6 J Q
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $0.49, BTN calls $0.49, fold, fold

Turn: ($1.58, 2 players) J
Hero checks, BTN bets $0.90, fold

BTN wins $1.52
Rake paid $0.06

I have tried to run some PPT simulations on this hand but my PPT game sucks right now. I got that villain is going to have the best hand on the river ~50% of the time and that's as far as I got with PPT.

I will try to explain why i check/folded, and if it's not a fold it has to be close either way?

I block so many hands he can continue with on flop: KT9, KT, T9, clubs
That narrows alot of his continuing range down to: QQ, JJ, 66, QJ, Q6, J6 and I block none of these, of course he can still have some sd/fd.

My own continuing range on this board betting into 3 others is going to be strong too, so if villain doesn't have a 2p/set hand, the rest of his continuing range is going to be: Acc with a Q or J w/ or w/o gutshot, or slowplayed AA w/ pre

There is also a small possibility of villain turning his hand into a bluff, but I think this is like the worst bluff catcher because I block the types of hands I want him to be bluffing with.

Thanks potluck, goodluck with your transition. I'm making my way through your log atm, it's a great read so far and nicely presented, I need to take some notes.

Saw alot of PGC threads followed some kind of template and I liked it, so I've finally put together a few basic goals and a template of my own to follow.

It's hard to get back into good habits and break old ones, but I think the key is to start out with something really short and easy to start building consistency, and then gradually increase good habits while decreasing bad habits.

Weeks 1-2 goals:
Poker:
  • Play 2500 hands
  • Study 5hours
  • Use software 2hours
Health:
  • Workout 5 days
  • Track daily calories
  • Meditate 10 minutes/day
  • Yoga stretches 10 minutes/day
Misc:
  • Update log daily (5days)

Weeks 3-4 goals:
Poker:
  • Play 5000 hands
  • Study 10hours
  • Use software 5hours
Health:
  • Workout 5 days
  • Track daily calories
  • Meditate 15 minutes/day
  • Yoga stretches 10 minutes/day
Misc:
  • Post a weekly wrap up

Weeks 5-8 goals:

Poker:
  • Play 8000 hands
  • Study 10hours
  • Use software 5hours
Health:
  • Workout 5 days
  • Track daily calories
  • Meditate 20 minutes/day
  • Yoga stretches 15 minutes/day
  • Post a weekly wrap up

Weeks 9-12 goals:

Poker:
  • Play 12000 hands
  • Study 10hours
  • Use software 5hours
Health:
  • Workout 5 days
  • Track daily calories
  • Meditate 30 minutes/day
  • Yoga stretches 20 minute/day
Misc:
  • Post a weekly wrap up

Except for poker, I used to do most of this daily but fell out of the habit of doing it.

Yoga for breakfast, meditation for lunch, a workout for dinner and good food had me feeling amazing both mentally and physically.

I don't know why I stopped, I guess I got caught up in other things and it gradually clouded how I felt physically and mentally without me realising how beneficial it was. It sucks to get started with something, it's physically and mentally draining at first, it's uncomfortable, and everything in your body begs you to go back to comfort. I think this is a big part of why people fail and how you forget how good something made you feel in the past along with becoming clouded and bogged down by other feelings.

2017 goals:
  • Move up to PLO100 before 2018
  • Read Tzu Sun: The Art of War
  • Find a study group/partner
  • Post 500 gifs

Monetary goals:
  • Buy a laptop
  • Spend 1month in SE asia

I didn't set monetary goals like "make $xxxx in x months", although PLO100 could be seen as one, but I view that more as something to actively work towards throughout the rest of the year. Same with buying a laptop and spending 1month in SE asia, except I didn't put a date on that. In other words, it's something to work towards, not to work for.

Final thoughts

2500hands/5hours study/2hours software/week is lol-volume but it's my own approach to habit forming based off of what I've read, observed in other logs, and my own experiences.

I actually have my goals setup daily on a 5day week to start:
500 hands
1hour study
25minute software

so if I play 2500 hands in a day, I still have to play 500/day for the remaining days, it doesn't mean I'm done because I played all 2500 in one day. That's too easy.

Gotta get dat momentum goin so I can crush all summer.

Nothing happens when you let yourself down(aside from ****ing up neural pathways in your brain), but it's different if you let somebody else down.

So If any fellow procrastinators are looking for a push or some extra accountability to sit down and start studying/playing, post here or PM me with your skype and we can arrange some sit downs to study-grind-chill with some breaks inbetween to bs. Can even be an ongoing group thing that you can jump in on when there's a study/play session in progress.

It doesn't matter what stakes you play, you don't even have to study the same material, just show up on time, get in the zone and be dedicated to improving.

Do I spend today's win on pokerjuice or continue getting to grips with PPT? I "used" my free trial.

I ordered the art of war in hardback, I should have been a nit and got the paperback, then I would have an easier decision buying pokerjuice.
