We got called in to deal the 2/5 Pot limit dealers choice

We went to bed at like 2am buddy.

We woke up at 8

I also picked up a shift to cover someone at 7pm, but I think that shift would only be til like midnight? We’ll see.

He wanted me in at 1:30, but I negotiated 2:30

Gonna see if I can nap real quick, yikes Just a girl with her head in the clouds

Did my first down, learned a new game “Sassy **** it style”

Everyone gets 5 cards

Discard 2, roll 1, plays out like Stud

Ace is high, low brings it in

Card dealt face up, then discard, then betting

Repeat previous step

Then option to sassy, betting, then option to sassy again, betting

Sheesh my lord

(Sassy is discard 2 or none. If you discard a face up or face down card, you get dealt your cards back the same way)

Now you're in a poker game. I'm surprised you didn't deal it up on Parmer and Lamar.

Ok so we are awake, or at least somewhat awake.

I’ll just let y’all know, that I haven’t really been dealing much since April. Was dealing a 19 game limit mix game that was running out of ATX but the game runner had a hard time finding dealers and the game didn’t always make, so the schedule was unreliable and i was making more playing so I quit and just played full time.

Then a bunch of shot happened, and then I went on a downswing in poker while I was on a life downswing as well.

So I’ve been picking up underground dealing shifts and getting staked to kind of balance all the variance I’m experiencing financially, but as of late I just barely even have the heart to put in even a full PLO session.

Which lead me to start playing these smaller live tournaments, but again, just bricked right outside the money a dozen times.

Now that I’m like “I need to reset my mindset and remove stress from my life.”, I’ve decided to just deal more and do some relaxing and getting **** done.

And my point here, is that I was in the same kind of mindset about dealing that I’m in about poker, and it’s that feeling of being burned out.

I know one thing I’m struggling with, and I feel I always have, is balancing my life in this kind of lifestyle.

It’s like, I’ll play every day for 3-4 weeks straight, want to take breaks, need a break, but still not take it until I just literally have no motivation to even get out of bed anymore.

I recognize this, and have adamantly been trying to put together a plan to do that.

Organizing my life, never realized I’ve never tried to actually do that **** before.

Now I mostly don’t have a choice if I want to be where I’m trying to get to.

Which leads us to today,

About to go in here to deal this tournament. Supposed to be a pretty big thing for the ATX Card House, at least that’s the impression I’ve gotten as the new person on staff.

The owner says about 70 people, and in Austin card rooms, that’s a lot.

Not sure what all is gonna go down today, but it’s primed to be a good day. I was told at least $20hr for the tournament downs, and there are usually tips on top of that too.

I’m pretty excited, I love everyone here that I work with, and it’s definitely the most positive work environment I’ve had since coming to Austin back in October last year.

Ok team, we gonna win today Just a girl with her head in the clouds

Let me tell you guys, there is no change for tournament chips in my well.

So I’m over head sweating on a side pot where 11,400 out of 5 16,000 bets all made with the largest denomination of chips.

I know I know, just multiply 11,400 x 5 and put that in the middle then scoop the rest to the side.

But our brain was all sideways after some lady gave me a 5k chip for change, then claimed it was a 10k chip.

The chips don’t have the denominations on them and I’m a new dealer to them so I think she was just trying to get over on me. Only 1 person agreed it was the blue 10k, 3 other people said it was the black 5k, including the guy I got the change from.

I called floor and she let it go and said it’s not a big deal.. I’m not even sure what to think lol

But I got lucky, I pushed out of my string at the tournament break, so I get 45 minutes instead of 30

So today I had a tiny realization that denial, procrastination, and flat out ignoring responsibilities are all huddled in proximity of meaning.

I feel like they’re all the result of not acknowledging when we’re experiencing cognitive dissonance to a more significant degree, like what happens when a major life event results in the need for major life changes.

Sometimes those changes are internal, other times they’re external.

I feel like the things I’m currently not doing are being put off because I don’t actually want to do them even though they need to be done.

It’s like, a VERY tiny part of me does want to, and that’s the part that’s telling me to think about this **** from a different perspective so I can get over this back and forth focusing I’ve been doing.

Clocked in to deal tonight, have a doctors appointment in the morning, and I see my son for visitation tomorrow. Court Tuesday, then dealing after that, and dealing Wednesday too.

This whole week is gonna be a blur.

I literally have no time to play, so I guess I’m forced into taking a poker break for the time being too.

Exhausted man.

Doctors fell through, didn’t bring something I needed, so just bailed on that. Got some sleep, cleaned my apartment.

It was looking rough.

Finally got a fly swatter to keep the Earls away.

Bought gas at $2.22 and was pretty excited since it was 3:30am so the temp was only 82 not 105, for people who care about that like I do Just a girl with her head in the clouds

I’m now gonna watch American Hustler and pass out.

Ah, by the way, while I was dealing my last down the mix game runner I dealt for before came in to the the Round & Round, asked me if I wanted to deal his game when it runs and told me I was a good mix game dealer so he’d like having me back.

Court was a thing.

Wasn’t the best, could have been worse.

Now I’m at ATX, hanging out. Shift started at 7, I’m sure I’ll be in the box eventually lol

I appreciate the laid back nature of this card room, some don’t but I find it endearing compared to the other card rooms.

Preference I suppose.

I like their ideals, we just need more players lol

Ok so cash game has started, I’ll push in at 11.

Damn, I feel like I just want to sleep off this stress I’m feeling. Can’t wait until I can sleep without waking up feeling like I’m forgetting something.

Haven’t had a day to lay by the pool all week.

There’s this thing called “floating the river” here in Austin, might go take a solo journey to clear my mind and center myself.

I feel all over the place, like I just got off a roller coaster and I still feel the ride even though it’s over.

Except my life is giving me that feeling.

I have to learn to express my emotions so I can help my 17 month old figure out how to express his. He’s been struggling with anger, and I’m just like “that’s probably my fault” since I’ve never been the best at handling such a volatile emotion.

I don’t think everyone experiences anger the same way, it’s gonna be a wiring thing where some people just feel certain emotions more intensely than others. I mean, I’m sure the mental health community has plenty of labels for it. Probably boils down to a lack of understanding on how to express these emotions and self validate.

Maybe I’m wrong?

So they wouldn’t let me deal the 5/10, so I was dealing a PLO tournament. My brain was doing great, but I jumped into dealing cash, got pushed, and then cut out of rotation. Took home $70 for 3.5 hours. Gross.

So I hit up the 1/3 home game I usually go to at 10:30, they break on my way south so I go over to the Weds Plo game I go to regularly.

Wait over an hour to get onto the 2nd table, no one wanted to move to main since it runs way deeper like $5k+ stacks vs the $500-$1k stacks in table 2.

It’s all 1/2/5, sometimes second table runs as 1/2.

Second tables get short and main fills up like right after I get my seat.

We’re in for $300, playing 6 handed, currently down $100 bc I’m card dead and folding the nuts pf Just a girl with her head in the clouds

Sorry I missed this!

PLO is really difficult to find.

When I moved here last October to deal at Shuffle512, there were like no PLO games in the card rooms, except for a 5/5 PLO that ran at TCH.

I advocated for PLO to the players while I dealt, and over time was able to get PLO games going.

Back in February I got together a 1/2/5 Big O/PLO round and round game that was fun and ran through the night even after I left.

TCH now regularly runs a 1/2/5 PLO, and it plays pretty deep.

There was an underground PLO game that had to move after letting a bigger PLO game run out of their spot. Owner of the building for the small PLO game decided that he didn’t like the reputation the bigger game had (drugs, naked girls) so the owner made both games leave.

Big game went to original spot, smaller game had to move from SW location to a NE location (north of river and south of river) and when this happened, small PLO game players dispersed. Most of the players wound up at Shuffle, and some left the small game to go to bigger game.

So right now, PLO in Austin is struggling. I’d suggest getting on PokerAtlas, shuffle, ATX card house and Austin Poker Palace all have their games running and can register online for waitlist.

TCH is not on PokerAtlas, but if you call they’ll tell you if they’re running a game.

Hope this helps

So yesterday I was driving in the passing lane on 35 going south during rush hour.

We get to a slight break in traffic, this car 2 lanes over up in front of me goes to switch lanes, realizes he’s about to hit someone, swerves, spins his car THREE times, misses like 6 cars in the process.

I slam on my breaks to avoid this guy just thinking to myself “Omg, if he hits any of these cars I’m gonna die” because we’re all doing 60+mph (I was going 80 when he started spinning).

Somehow, he regains control of his car, and speeds away on the off ramp.

You could tell all the cars were in shock because no one sped back up after he was gone..

Literally cried like 5 minutes later. Just thanking God that nothing happened.

Makes me wanna cry just thinking about it.

Makes me think of the guy who ran a red turn light and almost smashed into my car a couple months ago.

Also makes me think about how a few weeks before that, my decision to leave a gas station on the right side prevented me from being rear ended at the stop light that I’d have been sitting at if I exited on the left side. Watched a car get smashed into, a car that should have been my car.

Just felt like sharing this.

Driving in Austin is the most dangerous place I’ve ever driven, and although these are the instances that have really stuck with me, there are DAILY incidents where I’m avoiding the reckless driving of others.. is this normal or at I running below EV here?

The gas tanks are kept well underground where the temperature differential is much less significant at different times of day. So it doesn't matter that much what time of day you get gas. And gas costs ~$3.69 here in California in case you were wondering.

And sounds like you should stay off the road as much as you can to avoid the Final Destination juju from coming after you.

Cute kitten btw .

Oh yea, I know it might not actually be true but it gives me like a game to play.

The “gotta get gas while the sun is down” game.

So, if I were to find out that my whole life was a lie in regards to the volume of gas, I’d probably still make decisions based on this information being true because it brings me joy... hahaha Just a girl with her head in the clouds
