Jimmus' challenge (The Mini Ferg) Jimmus' challenge (The Mini Ferg)

Good evening (morning technically for me, being in the EST time zone).

My name is Jim. I've played quite a bit of poker in my time, both live and online. I've semi-recently taken my bankroll I had on pokerstars and withdrawn it. I now have $0 online at any site.

I work a full-time job in the real world, and play poker at the local casino most nights. However, this poker challenge is online only, and mostly for fun! I will update here at least 3 days a week (probably more), posting both negative and positive results.

I've named my challenge the Mini Ferg, because it's based loosely off a Chris Ferguson's freeroll - $10,000 challenge. The main difference, however, is the end goal for me.

Using smart bankroll management, I aim solely to go from $0 to $50. I will start with freerolls (ldo), and graduate into micro-limit SNGs and MTTs. It's straightforward enough, and I don't expect anyone to keep up-to-date on my progress, but a view or two once in a while would be appreciated.

I hope I can motivate others to do the same! Best of luck to all in your ventures, and always remember! Grind on the mind!

- Jim

I don't have any aspirations of being one of those 100 - 10K people. Atleast, not yet. I'm starting with what is realistically the most beatable game out there, and working my way up from there.

Also, as afforementioned, this is primarily just for fun. I don't think it's possible for me to EVER make as much money online as live, as the game is just so so much different.

And yes, I suspect there will be quite a few of these sort of threads, but that's the entire point of this forum iirc... I encourage anyone who wants to try this or a similar challenge to do so, why not, right? .

Btw, grats on your SNG success so far, you've got quite the story. Best of luck with the rest of the year; keep the grind on the mind!

There's no money in freerolls...nobody's solid, there's just no money there.

Well played. I`m finding that out, haha. Played two of the 7500 players already and came in the top 500 in both, but not the top 45 (pay zone) in any. All I can really find are these 7500 ones and under the private tab the freerollchamp ones I can get the password for.

Anyone have any suggestions for other freerolls I could play?

Why?

I don't understand why?

You won't increase your poker skills, and you don't make any money!...Why?

Why?

Peace and love. xx

Valid question. The whole point of this challenge is merely to see if I have the patience to do it. I`m not trying to make any whack of cash (the end goal is $50 haha).

It's not a poker goal so much as a poker challenge.

Anyways, day 1 went more or less as expected. I played 5 freerolls. All of them were 7500 players. 380th was my worst finish, but sadly 86th was my best (only the top 45 get paid).

I'm hoping to cash in the next 7-8 days, but I don't mind if I can't manage to. Anyways, grind on the mind Night!

My sugestions is to build up play money playing SNGs and sell the play money. Would be a lot quicker.

I definately understand your challenge- I did the same in the past.(Or close to it, I went from 0 to around $35~ Then donk'd it off, and then studied and deposited like a normal person).

The one huge lesson I learned is:

If you have the option to deposit, DO IT.
Freerolls are, as blunt as I can be, A WASTE OF FREEKKING TIME.

Why not deposit, say, $25-$50(or even $5-$10), and have a goal to make that $200, or something?

Or this, if you don't want to deposit anything

I understand the concept, I truly truly do. The big thing here, is that this is not at all about money. I don`t need money, and I`m not aiming to make a bunch playing poker.

I`ve made money playing poker in the past online and live (much more live). I just wanted to do something fun, try to get a bit more discipline with going deep in tournaments (even if they are ******ed tournaments), and a little more discipline with basic BRM if/when I cash in one.

Thanks again for all the responses.

also what's your SN? I wanna watch you take it down!

And if you cash this and can hold onto it, you're about 6 months ahead of Chris

I still don't get the why? (why oh why oh why??) Mind you seems more like self flagellation than instilling self discipline.

That said the longer this takes you and the harder you find it the better for your underlying motivation.

But I don't like be mean.

GOGOGOGO

You can do it.

Peace and love. xx

You sound mad! I could think of nothing worse, but if it makes you happy then good luck. You seem to be doing ok and you have a lot of enthusiasm for the challenge.

Well, I cashed in a freeroll on Pstars for a whopping $10.04 a couple of days ago. I haven't played since, and I just played a session today and I'm up to $10.69!

I'm well on my way. Sadly, the BRM part is going to be tough... I really want to buy in for $1 at 4 2NL tables, but that's only 10 buy-ins (5 technically).

I haven't figured out what I'm going to do to get this $10 to $50. Any thoughts? Cheers,
- Jim
