I am a 22 year old asian poker player from the UK and I intend to make it all the way to 1kNL and beyond.
Since I am asian, I obv like eating sushi, drinking bubble tea, reading manga, play guitar, and spend way too much money on things to do with my appearance. Anything else, you can ask me.
Poker history and about me:
Spoiler:
I learnt how to play poker when I was 16 with friends but never really took the game seriously until Summer 2010. It wasn't like all the other Cinderella stories where I discovered that I was a poker wizard and decided that I could suddenly just play and crush the games.
... I played Poker because it was an escape for me and I actually felt like it was my only choice.
(Don't worry, I've never had a gambling problem, but always saw poker more as getting paid to play a video game.)
Summer 2010 was one of the worst Summers of my life:
- I broke up with my ex-girlfriend
- Because of said ex-girlfriend, I cut off all my connections with my ex-friends who didn't like her (Words of wisdom: bros over hoes.)
- I ****ed up my final year of exams so bad in University.
- I had no money to my name (Having spent all my previous poker winnings on my now ex-gf).
This was where I got most of my drive and motivation from.
I couldn't let myself fail cause I didn't have a choice.
I bought myself a new £700 computer, deposited a good $400 online using my overdraft, and grinded the 25NL games building my way up. (I was already a winner at 50NL over a large sample so I was confident in being able to build a roll for SSNL)
Spoiler:
Regarding my exams, I found out that I had actually somehow passed but did not find out about this till September.. Meaning I had 2 months of this ****ty feeling in my stomach because I still hadn't told my lolasianparents about how **** the exams went
Results:
2010+$23k~ after rb
20nl->100nl
[As you can see from my redline, my game was still developing and was constantly being adjusted]
By January 2011 I had made enough to start taking shots at 200NL.
2011+$57k~ after rb
100nl->200nl->400nl->100nl->200nl->mix of 200nl-600nl
Most of the first half of the graph was 20-tabling 200NL...
See the point at ~300k hands where everything went breakeven?
That was around Black Friday when I couldn't seem to do anything right anymore.
I was on perma-tilt during those months up till July and couldn't understand why my mindset couldn't just be "Grind, grind, grind" and not be results oriented.
I cashed out nearly all of my roll because of Black Friday and left myself $5k to grind 100NL.
August
After stopping the mass-multitabling, and trying to improve my understanding about the psychology of the game to a higher level, it seems as though I've finally been able to get out of that long break-even stretch.
Things seem to be looking up for me as of right now:
- I've now finally made enough to be able to take shots at 400nl+ again, which I am so glad to be able to do once again.
- My mentality and confidence in my poker game are more solid than they have ever been in my life.
- I'm about to move to London soon to party it up before I get old and wrinkly.
Hopefully this will be a new and amazing chapter of my social life & career...
