For the first time ever, WSOP circuit events are coming to Toronto with a $2k main event. There are three day 1 flights running from March 28-30. WSOP.ca (GG) is running online qualifiers with steps starting as low as $1. I will play in that damn tournament.

It won't be easy. I work full time so I can't grind all day and night. And I'm not divorced yet, so there's that. I've never played in a major poker tournament before either, so this would fulfill a dream of mine. I'm 49 years old and want to accomplish this before I turn 50 and get depressed.

Starting with some steps this evening. Was hoping to play a bunch today but had to attend a damn funeral instead.

Would love some follows and a pep talk or two. Wish me luck.

Thanks. Nothing to report yet, busted the first few satties. The format is annoying because you can't use a step ticket for any time, you have to use it for the next scheduled step. So I have to be prepared to play all steps back-to-back.

Welp, that was quick - I won a seat last night!

Played a $10 into the $100 and then binked a seat.

I'm so excited for this thing, I've been playing recreationally for like 20 years and I've never played in a "real" tournament before, let alone a big event like this. There are three day 1's and I have to decide which day to play.

I started reading the thread and was about to wish you good luck getting a seat but you were way too fast! Congrats!

Any advice on which day 1 to play? They run Thurs, Fri (Good Friday), and Saturday. It is a freezeout so there's no incentive for pros to play 1A so they can re-enter B or C. So I'm thinking 1A will probably be mostly locals with travelers coming in to play Friday or Saturday. They also cap registration at 405 for each day, so there's no possibility that one day will have a smaller field than the others.

Thursday is my b-day, so I highly recommend playing that day

Are you sure it's a freezeout? The WSOP site says it's re-entry. Usually it's best to play the last flight since some pros have already qualified.
