Hi all,
I am a PLO pro and I want to use this blog to hold myself accountable for both playing and studying goals.

Background
I started playing play money poker online in college after (most likely) coming across random poker videos on Youtube.
After I graduated, I played some microstakes MTT online before I started playing NLH cash in my local casinos.
I moved up slowly from 1/2 to 5/10 but no longer felt I had much of an edge in 5/10 live.
At the same time, I began playing PLO online. It started at the micros, but with some game selection, I was able to become a winning player at 1/2.
This is right around the time COVID hit, and I lost all my motivation for my regular job, so I took the leap and became a full-time online pro.
Nowadays, I play on a variety of American facing sites from 1/2 up to 5/10.

2022 Results
I have reached 300k hands for the year and may play another 5-10k for the last week.
Results wise, 2022 has been fairly successful overall, but almost all of my winnings come from the first half while I broke even for the most part in the second half.

2023 Goals
I have never been the hardest worker nor put in a ton of volume playing, so this blog is my way to change that.
For playing volume, I want to reach 350k hands for the year. If I go back to playing live, each hour would count as 250 hands online.
It's harder for me to set a studying goal since I have always quit on them very quickly.
To set something achievable, I will start at a minimum of reviewing 10 preflop hands and 10 postflop hands per week. I can always increase the goal later.
I will update this blog monthly to check in on my goals.

Good luck to everyone at the tables.

Yes, I have played on pretty much all American facing sites which also include Ignition, Global and Coinpoker.

You should try them out yourself to see how soft the games are and how often the games run at your stake. There is no need to limit yourself to a single site either.

I have stayed away from poker apps. Not a big fan of having to deal with individual agents.

Final Graph for Year 2022

I forgot to mention that I had a goal of 330k hands coming into the year. I am short quite a few hands but also had to deal with some personal issues in the second half which made it more difficult to put in volume.

For 2023 studying goals, I am going to update it to all tagged preflop hands and 10 postflop hands reviewed per week.
Here is hoping that I can sustain that throughout the year.

Jan 2023 Update:

Very solid results other than a bit of a bad run at the end of the month. Note that the EV graph is not 100% accurate because there are 5-card PLO hands that Pokertracker is treating as regular 4-card PLO. Volume is on the low end but this was expected given that I have been moving and traveling for the last couple of weeks.

On the studying side, I reviewed enough hands for my set goal every week. I also started putting in work into 5-card PLO given that it has become more popular on the sites I am playing.

Feb 2023 Update:

Very low volume month as I am still away from US and can't access Bovada and Global.
I took the opportunity to sign up for GG but didn't play too much volume there, as it took more than a week to get verified and the rnc pool seemed too reg-heavy to be profitable without grinding the leaderboard.
On the studying side, I spent enough time on 5-card to be satisfied with my studying volume.
I can't wait to go back home this month and return to my regular schedule.

Apologies but I am not fully comfortable sharing my full income online yet. I would say my average stake in 500 so bb*5 is pretty close to how much money I make over the long term.

March 2023 Update:

Finally back home and back to my normal schedule since mid-March.
I also realized how poorly written those last two updates were so hopefully will improve on that a little going forward.
I have been lacking the motivation to grind when the games were not great, so the volume is not where I want it to be even after coming home.

I have done very little studying this month as well, which is really bad when I am not playing a ton.
I have always been stuck between reviewing my hands played and going through specific nodes in the game tree systematically.
I think systematic study is likely more useful to improving my game, but the complexity of studying even a single node overwhelms me.
For example, I want to study turn play after checking raising in single-raised pot OOP recently.
The number of flops and turn transitions I would have to go through make it very difficult for me to start at all.
For April, I am going back to my stated studying goal of simply reviewing hands, as this ensures that at the very least I am getting some studying done.

April 2023 Update:

Solid month overall. The number of hands may appear low on the graph, but I have played more volume on Global, which is untracked, recently.
Together, it probably adds up to around 30k hands for the month, which is what I aim for every month.

I am also back to reviewing more hands for study, so I am happy with myself on that front as well.

Nice thread. What were the best resources you used to learn/improve in the beginning?

I would recommend free resources like Youtube and Twitch to start off and then solver-based tools once you have a solid foundation. For PLO I probably started with watching Jnandez videos/streams and most of my studying now is using PLO trainer.

May 2023 Update:

Very happy with the volume I put in this month, though I would say it's mostly a function of how good the games were.
I have also become very consistent in reviewing hands almost daily and hope to keep that going.

June 2023 Update:

Ran pretty well for the month but the volume was on the low end for me.
July will be even lower in volume since I just returned from about two weeks of vacation with almost no hands played at all.
This month I will also renew my studying effort towards 5c as I have mostly focused on 4c recently.

Nice results so far, hope you manage to keep it up.

Question - How much of your bankroll do you keep on sites?
