Still grinding along nicely. March graph has flattened out a little over the past few days but once again, no damage being done as I am starting to learn how to manage the mindset when things aren't quite running smoothly.

At work at the moment but will post updates with graphs when I'm home tonight.

Still playing 5NL with the BR closing in on $400 now. Have mixed in a lot of Reg 6 Max play this month which so far has been extremely profitable. With the obvious advantage of being able to target and exploit the weaker players a lot more.

As I said back in the OP, I haven't really set any strict BR goals/rules for this challenge, other than dropping the ego and dropping limits at any point if required. As it turns out, I started at 10NL with $100, quickly doubled up but soon crashed to about $50. I (reluctantly :-) ) did what I said I would and dropped down and have essentially played 2NL and 5NL for the past 2 months and made steady progression.

Once I hit $400 I will start with some shots back at 10NL. I've never been a BR nit - in fact one of my biggest problems has always been playing above what I'm rolled for ($200 BR - lets play 25NL) but I'm determined to make this challenge go the full year and see where I end up. So $400 will be the mark for 10NL shots....and at this stage only shots. I will use $500 as the benchmark for the full on transition from 5NL to 10NL.

All these years and all those vids I've watched and books I read....they were right. Playing with an adequate bankroll to cover a poor session or run of poor sessions really does help your mindset at the table.

So as I said, I would start taking some shots at 10NL again once I crossed the $400 mark. I actually took a shot last night while still short of $400 but picked up about 1.5 BIs and crossed the $400 barrier so went back again tonight for another shot.

Got a big day tomorrow so not an overly long session tonight but played really well and made some nice profit. As you can see by the graph, picked up about 3.5 BIs over a fairly short sample and that's without one all in.

KJo I like to cbet so wet board. Even with second pair you get much value from draws.

QQ I think I would raise that flop. His bet is too low and I don't want to let him see turn for such low price and draw so cheaply.

Would bet quite higher with AA.

AT and JT spots are quite similar - why do you use different sizings on the flop?

kj - opponent seemed quite aggressive so went with x/c to see a second card with 2nd pair rather than potentially getting raised. Obviously turn card improves me but relatively speaking could (and was) a bad card so I decided to just call here and see river.



QQ - Yeah I think you're right and HU I probably would have. Seemed strong/valuey when he donks into me with 2 opponents so I was a little unsure how to proceed on that one. With 3rd player calling too and board run out, decided to keep it small after that.



AA - Button wasn't full stacked and was aggro type so bet small hoping to induce spaz out/shove. When he calls I'm still set up well for turn all in.



AT/JT - JT hand is a drier board and I have position on both players.



In general I have been playing around with cbet sizing quite a bit though and trying to find what works and what doesn't in terms of getting paid when you have it or still taking it down when you don't. Finding cbetting smaller has been quite successful in a lot of situations.

Finished ready CTM again a few weeks ago and have been through heaps of Leak Finder vids on PokerVIP over the past month. I think these have really helped and I'm looking forward to seeing my own when the review is done.

I'm going back through my own poker library now and re-reading some material I've been over previously. As I feel I'm generally getting good strat and game play type of info from Jon Lundy's review vids, I've decided to pick up some of the 'Poker Psych' books I have and work my way though some of those again and give myself that mental stock take.

Just started this one.



And will follow it up with his other 2 books I have.

First time in a long time I have felt tilty and have had to log off. Obviously coincides with my worst day (2 days) for a long time. Felt like I was in the middle of a set up.

All the big hands were getting outdrawn or coolered and everything else was getting floated, x/r etc

A good test to see if I can re-compose myself for the next session and keep playing the good game.

Yeah that's a gross turn card. Obviously checked called hoping to pair the board or see him slow down on river. Hated it at the time..........still not really sure.

Don't you think you get more value by calling KQ BTN vs CO instead of 3betting it?

Been watching a lot of leak finder vids on PokerVIP and one thing I've picked up is how wide CO and Btn are opening and how often a 3bet takes the pot down or allows you to take it down with a cbet on the flop.

Not doing this all the time but playing a round a little and trying a few things. I'm finding it is generally much easier to know where you are in a hand if you take the initiative more often though.

Haven't been updating regularly but have still been playing.

Will post some March graphs and numbers when I'm home later on.

A brief summary is as follows:-

Started the month with a mix of 5NL tables (reg and Zoom) and had a nice steady graph for about the first half of the month. Made the move to 10NL Zoom and instantly hit a heater picking up 8-10 BIs quite quickly but the final week to 10 days of the month were just a matter of break even and losing. Not disastrous losing but just up and down. Was probably up about $180 for the month at the half way point and think I'll find I ended up about $120 for the month when I check PT4 tonight.

Will look things over and then make a decision whether to stick with 10NL or move back to 5NL to try and find some momentum for a brief stint.

Poker is all about losing the minimum and winning the maximum m8, you prob need to tighten up and rethink when people reraise you

Your last graphs seems very nice. Good winrate from blinds. Just relax man and you will make it. You seem a little tilted to me, my suggestion is to take a break for 2-3 days and come back stronger.

So I've had one of those days where if I've had AA/KK it has seen a flop every time, whether I've been called after I've raised, or whether I've 3bet and been called. Following this, every under pair has hit their set and where those donks who called with J9o and hit 973 flop have called the flop bet, they've hit their J on the turn every time.

Just one of those days right....


So this time I try to mix it up and raise to 5BB pre (rather than my standard 3BB). Figure if I'm getting called anyway I may as well bump it up. So yeah, called in 2 spots, hit a montone board (which I don't have the Ace of) and get donked in to with a pot sized bet....

I'm actually trying to loosen up, not tighten up. Being overly tight is one of my leaks. I think part of the problem today was getting tilted because as I opened up, I was getting bullied out of a lot of pots, but then the premiums I always play were getting cracked too.

Basically I just lost my ****. Need to work on keeping my composure, which for the most part I've been doing successfully the past month or so.

Yeah thanks derek. Been grinding pretty well past month or two. Probably been results watching a mit too much past week or 2 which has affected my play rather than just playing on focussing on my decisions which has been working well mostly.

Big pairs can you in a lot of trouble if you can't fold them post flop and running bad. I fold them to raises pretty easy most of the time unless I'm tilted. They simply are not raising less than 2 pair 80% of the time at least.
