I recommend "The mental game of poker" for tilt problems.It worked well for me and perhaps it will work well for you too.

Didn't tilt tonight or last night but I'm extremely frustrated at the minute. Trying to find a lot of really good spots but it just isn't working out.

So a few quieter days in terms of hands played and also in terms of mood swings and BR swings. Basically just taken a few days to play some small ball poker and steady the ship.

Plenty of time to go this month and confident I can still make it a successful first month as long as I can maintain the control of the frustration when things don't fall my way. Need to realise it's ok to have quiet periods where you can't make a hand. Just damage control those periods and cash in when it turns.

Will post a graph of the month to date on Saturday night. At work right now so don't have numbers in front of me but I'd estimate I'm probably about break even at my starting BR right now.

Seems you're going broke a bit too often against turn raises. the KK hand is a pretty easy fold imo and the KQ hand, though dirty, is a fold I think. Hands they show with are pretty lol though:P

I just couldn't give him credit in the KK hand and with him only having a 1/2 stack, felt I couldn't get away from that.

Probably gotta agree about KQ though. At worst, I should probably call once and re-evaluate the river.

In general, you're right though. It comes back to playing to my mantra which was:

* Abuse the button
* Bet for value
* Fold with discipline

I'm not currently doing any of them well enough but the folding part is hurting the most, especially when I've gone through a dry spell or unlucky spell, I'm not finding the discipline to make the folds you know you probably should.

Onwards and upwards. Iron these kinks out now at 5NL and 10NL.

Yeah mate, playing 5NL Zoom currently. Started at 10NL and started well, then it went downhill (mainly poor play, impatient, frustrated) so as I said I would, have made the move down. Unfortunately I'm running worse at 5NL although I feel I've started to steady the ship.

Just taking a quick break now as a part of my routine to take a deep breath after being sucked out on. Nothing serious. Very standard spot...me on Button with AA v BB with QQ. All in pre and flops a Q.

That in itself doesn't faze me so much but after a fairly long run where every time I have gotten it in pre with KK, QQ, AK I seem to see AA and lose it is pretty frustrating to finally be on the other side and see them hit his 2 outer.

Anyway, as a means of trying to manage tilt/frustration I've decided to not play long sessions, in a bid to avoid those endless hours where nothing's happening, I'm frustrated, and making snap calls/folds in auto pilot mode.

Instead I'm setting my stop watch for 30 minutes and stopping as soon as it beeps. Doesn't mean that's it for the day but rather I will just get up, have a drink, whatever....and then just take a recap of how I'm going. Am I actually putting focus into the game? Am I autopiloting? Am I playing calm, relaxed, well...making god decisions. Am I inpatient, frustrated, angry.

If in the positive, I might fire up another 1/2 hour. If not, time for a break so as not not waste money when I'm not in the right frame of mind.

Same spot again (this time SB v BB). Same result again.

Very deflating. Feel like I lose to AA everytime I'm in with KK QQ but can't make AA stick when I have it against the same hands.

3 steps forward, 3.5 steps back at the moment. Always seem to get these frustrating hands after a period where I've been playing well and grinding the roll back up. Feels like I'm being sabotaged

Final straw for me today, when I hit with the smaller PP, they hit too...... back again for another go tomorrow.

Hopefully less of a set up.

Having some internet connectivity issues at the moment which is reducing hands played (mainly son on his new laptop eating all our data allowance, lol). The break should hopefully do some good anyway. Whenever I tend to get back into the game, I tend to get absorbed in it too much so hopefully it can help me get the balance right with everything else.

Being doing a lot of running which is something I love but have let lapse over the past 6 months of 2014. I had set myself the goal of doing 1,000 kms in 2014, as well as a few events, but in the end only reached 610 kms. So far in 2015 I have already done 90 kms and hope to get it out to 135-150 by the end of the month. This should really kick start my effort to once again try for 1,000 km for the year. Have joined a parkrun group that does a times 5 km run every Saturday and trying to do at least 10 km every Sunday, as well as a few other shorter weekly runs (as well as cricket training).

Did a 17 km trail yesterday. Lucky enough to live on the southern coast of Victoria (Australia) and have access to this within 10 minute drive from home. A really tough run with plenty of steep hills and uneven terrain but highly enjoyable.











ALso spent time finishing the book I mentioned earlier "Garden of the Moon". The first book in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. About to start book 2 now "Deadhouse gates".

Continuing the slow fight back at 5NL zoom. More or less back to break even after really going off the rails for a week or so. Won't head back to 10NL until I've picked up at least another 10 buy ins or more at this level.

Overall today up about 1 buy in, which is frustratingly less than I should be. Positional Stats and Stats by Stake (and yes I did break my own rule at one point and played about an hour of 25NL )

Feel like I've been pretty unlucky the last few days to be honest, which I know isn't necessarily a healthy mindset, so I'll work on that. Better to just analyse my play and be happy if I've played well, rather than worry about results, and I'm sure there is plenty I can do better.

Grinding out a nice little session now but just lost 2 pots that 'nearly' undo all the good work.

Haven't lost the plot Just taking a second to post about my mindset and the type of hands that can often tilt me. I'm not there now as I'm putting a real focus on staying calm and making each decision the best it can be.

Just be interested if this type of thing causes reactions in others and if they are able to just keep playing with a smile or whether they have actual steps they take at these types of points to help deal with it.

this one I actually find quite a bit more tilting to be honest, despite it being a much smaller pot.

Flop top pair and cbet and get called out of position by nothing but air. I pick up the nut flush draw on the turn and he calls once again out of position with air plus the drawing dead flush draw.............and catches his miracle on the river. This is the type of hand that does my head in.
