JANUARY RESULTS CHECK


So month 1 is done and dusted. Results certainly leave a lot to be desired but the roll is still in tact which means I survive to battle on and hopefully improve. The intention was to grind the entire month at 10NL - I didn't achieve this. When my play went downhill and my BR with it, I did what I said I would and went back to 5NL. Unfortunately even that didn't go so well. The quality of play as you go down is obviously fishier which means I copped some horrible beats. What I need to work on is reacting better to those beats and exploiting those players rather than letting 1 or 2 beats be the catalyst for me then donking off more stacks through my own poor play. I decided to grind 2NL for the last part of the month just to play at a safe limit BR wise where I could try to open up my play a little and work on some things. Not much was different to 5NL unfortunately.

Overall I lost at every level I played - EXCEPT 25NL which I wasn't going to play at all. Didn't play any long sessions at 25NL but I did break my own rule by hit and running a few times.

Ironically, if it wasn't for the 25NL shots I'd have lost half my roll instead of being in front.

I also played a little 5NL and 10NL reg tables but not enough to worry posting those results here so I will focus on the Zoom stats and graphs.

Didn't really get the aggression up to the point I wanted. I started well but as the results detriorated, I went in to my shell more and tightened things up. Will have to continue to be a work in progress.

Passed - but still posted the majority of hands as bad beat vents, which are worthless.

February Goals

• Grind through 2NL and 5L and post a profit. Be playing 10NL by the end of the month.
• Post only interesting hands/tough spots for review.
• Finish reading Crushing the Microstakes again.
• Take breathers when frustrated. Bad beat, no action, whatever. Stop, breathe, preserve the BR.

Hang in there, I would definitely recommend watching some videos if you have access to them. Some midstakes players have youtube channel where they make video's, some of them in the micro's. I know that pokerstrategy has some free content at least, I think some of the other training sites at least have a free trial.

Yeah I've watched heaps, and have heaps of books too. Been a while though so it's just a matter of tidying up on the knowledge but more importantly, applying it and understanding why I am applying it.

Thought I played well tonight but geez the cards ran against me.

The only one where the pre flop call is awful by me is with 55 but this guy had sat down and was just 3 betting and jamming over everyone and had just pushed me out of an earlier pot and I F U called this one.

fyi, the 55 hand is probably ok if you really think he can 3/5b atc, but that's unlikely, cause if they're gonna shove atc they're not gonna 3b normally first. Also, rake is a huge factor in the micro's. If he's really spewy post you can probably limp call the btn, but i'm not sure.

the 87 is pretty close, against a reg i'm pretty sure its a fold, but you were ahead, so whatever. Rest is just pretty lol

Pretty happy with how I played overall last night. Cooled off a bit and returned for some more 2NL and picked up a few more BIs. Will continue with a mix of 2NL and 5NL (Reg and Zoom) for the time being. Hopefully only another week or so before I drop the 2NL off altogether and start mixing in some 10NL shots again.

Really pleased with today's grind. Not just because of the results, which were good, but because I felt in control of my play and made really good decisions (mostly).

I had watched a few videos today on PokerVIP and Jon's logic in a lot of situations really made sense to me on topics such as betting the button, bet sizing, when and how much to c-bet, 3-betting and isolating limpers and taking the initiative.

Found myself picking up a lot of pots I normally wouldn't and generally felt I knew what to do in most circumstances. All these topics are ones I have read theory and watched footage on a lot over the years but I guess today I was in the mood to absorb and apply some of it. Perhaps it resonated at he was playing, or commenting on others playing, at the same stakes and in the same player pool type I'm currently in.

Not claiming any great break through. Just a good day's play. They key to to build on that now.

Overall my stats weren't particularly looser than the normal 16/13 or 15/12. (Think I got to 17/14). However it is slightly more aggressive - and combined with a slightly more aggressive PF 3bet % and button steal %, I felt like I was headed in the right direction.

This was a really interesting one where I wasn't sure if calling was right pre flop. Was getting great odds but was 100% certain I was behind. In the end I went to fold..........but accidentally pressed the call button instead

On the flop I figured I had 8 clean outs and tried to do the quick math in my head. Wasn't sure if I got it right or I was slightly priced out but determined I needed to see both cards to get the odds and shoved (and hit the card).

Tried running the numbers afterwards and think by shoving $1.55 to create a $4.05 pot that I'm getting pot odds of 38% with 28% odds of making my hand.

Been a long while since I've run these type of calcs but this makes it +EV play yeah?

Also won the standard AA v AK AIPF and lost AK v KK AIPF. Lost also with the second nut flush v nut flush. Other than that though, didn't come close to losing a stack.

Still grinding away at 2NL and going pretty well at the moment. Will posts graphs and stats etc in a few days but for he most part feel like I'm in the best mindset and vein of form since I started the thread.

Been watching some leak finder vids on PokerVIP and have got through the majority of Crushing the Microstakes again and feel I'm applying some of that pretty well and generally making better decisions.

I think you played the ace Queen a bit too hard to the Utg.
You are often 50/50 at best or crushed. Although at those stakes
You see all kinds. I would rather call pre flop with ace Queen at any stakes here to
an unknown and keep the pot small.

Of course at micros fish play any ace rag so ace Queen can often crush them.
But outplay them post flop so they make mistakes rather than bloating the pot
pre flop.

Working through 2NL and a bit of 5NL. Trying to play positive and a 'little more' aggressively.
