Grinding it up! Rags to Riches ^_^ Grinding it up! Rags to Riches ^_^

Hey Guys so this thread is about me being focused and sharing my journey with all of you till the top. Here is a bit of background on my life over the last couple of years, on and off the felt -

- I’m 18 years old and freshman in college. I’ve been playing poker since I was 11. It’s been a pretty wild, up and down journey since then.

- I love studying the game and improving so I will surely have some study goals out there. I have basically read around 12+ books all related to MTT poker so switching to 9-Mans for the lower grind might be a little tough.

- I started when I was 11, didn’t know **** that I was doing.. By the time I reached the age of 14 I started figuring out some stuff, getting better. I made a huge break when I was 16 (playing under a cousins account) I ended up winning some pretty decent moolah at that point.

- So by the end of 2012 I was really inspired to improve and saw myself having a future in this. I had to take a break from poker because of my studies but since now I’m done with most of it. It’s time to grind !

-The money I basically earned had drained in the past couple of years and here I was back where I started left with around 1.7k of what I earned. I currently have a 46$ + (500$) bankroll because of some neteller issue I am yet to sort out (probably soon)

-So I started playing again a couple of months ago in April but stuff didn’t go as planned and I had a lot on my plate to give enough time to poker. I experienced a pretty decent MTT downswing to the point where i was left with 546$ (Out of the 1.7k$ I started with) most of which I think is because I didn’t study the game enough.

-I’m also really into fitness and eating healthy. I gym regularly all 7 days a week (follow that nodaysoff mindset). It just gives me a lot of positive energy throughout the day. I have lost 6kg’s in the past 2 weeks and I am ready for more so that would be something I’ll be doing by the side.

That was that, coming forward to today I will be rolling with the 46$ bankroll I have at the moment (till the time I get the 500$ from neteller) and sticking to grind 1.5$ 9 Man Turbo SnG’s.

9 Mans is a completely new format for me as I’m used to 45 and 180 Mans but I’ll surely learn and adjust.

Will be following a 50BI BRM, pretty nitty but I guess that’s what I feel the most comfortable with. I do have 46$ right now so I’ll be playing the lowest 1.5$ ones as I have (500$) before I go broke. Though when I get my 500$ released I would stick to 3.5$s and make sure I can beat them before moving to 7s and 15s.

Study- I will be looking forward to reading 1 book per week. Seems like a lot but I’m ready to give it my all.

1st book that I have ordered and I should receive by today is -
Sit 'n Go Strategy: Expert Advice for Beating One-Table Poker Tournaments by Collin Moshman.

According to the reviews I have read, this is by far the best 9-Man SnG book to start off with. Please recommend me more books for 9 mans if you have any suggestions.

Goals this month -

♥ 900-1200 SnG’s in a Month
♦ Beat the 3.5$ 9-Mans by the end of the Month
♣ Update this thread daily with Graphs
♠ Work towards my fitness Goals
♥ Read 2 books in a Month (Re-read them alternate weeks)

I guess that about sums is up, what I am aiming for in the next couple of months is consistency and volume. Having some support from you guys would just make it a bit more easier. I will be updating this thread daily with the progress I’m making so stay tuned for that.

Cheers and GL at the tables ! :’)

Day 1 -

So Today was a fresh start to this grinding routine. I started off with a 10 SnG set and It didn't actually go as planned. Soon after I finished it I received the book I order by Collin Moshman. I decided to give that a read before my next grinding session.

So far I have played 28 SnG's (9 Mans) out of which 10 were played today. This is the overall graph so far.

I had some FPP's left so I played a few hyper satellites and won 3.3T$ so that's a decent bonus.

Study - I have read about 40 pages of the new book till the pre-flop low blind play and I feel really comfortable after it corrected a lot of the wrong plays I was making.

Volume - Today after my first small session I felt more like studying and not grinding much so I just continued to read the book. I will get the volume to par once I'm done reading and grind while I read for a bit.

Fitness - So I hit the Gym twice today and kept my diet clean which gives me a lot of positive energy to work hard on my poker game and improve. I hope to keep this going as it is an important part of a positive mindset

Day 1 Ending BR : $46.65

Day 2-

I basically did nothing related to poker today. Started my day off at the gym and then off to college. Came back home late and had an appointment with the dentist. By the time I was free from everything and reached home it was 10:00 PM and I was way too tired to study/grind. Tomorrow is an off from college so I should be able to put in enough hours for a good grind and study!

I have also decided to deposit 100$ more temporarily so I can start grinding 3.5$ 9 Mans till my 500$ is released (which will probably be by 30th August). After they get released I'll withdraw this 100$ back.

Day 2 Ending BR : $46.65 + (100$ Deposit)

Day 3-

So Today I started off with the mindset of grinding the 3.5s after all that I read on Day 1. I ended up playing 26 SnG's (I know it's not a lot) but still. I played pretty decent for the most part. Made a few mistakes and learned from it.

6 BI Downswing today, running below EV but such a micro sample so no need to be results oriented ^_^

Study - I ended up reading the book till 60 Pages. I have decided that since it is helping my game a lot I will read upto 100 Pages tomorrow before starting my grind.

Volume - I'm limiting my tables to 4-6 at the moment so I'm not able to get in much volume. I used to 12-14 table but I'm trying to focus on the things I'm learning in the book and correcting my mistakes before increasing my volume.

Fitness - I went to the Gym today for 2-3 hrs. Felt really good after when I was grinding and would surely keep that going.

Day 3 Ending BR : $23.53 + (100$ Deposit)

Day 4 -

Very Busy and Hectic Day today. Had an appointment at the clinic at around noon. Then college and came back home around 7. Went to the Gym for a couple of hours and by the time I was back home, me and my brother decided to go for a movie.

Didn't get time to study or play so this weekend will be hardcore grinding. I'm aiming for completing half the book and atleast 150+ SnG's in the next 2 days.

Day 4 Ending BR : $23.53 + (100$ Deposit)

Day 5-15 (Week 2) -

Firstly, Sorry for not updating the past week guys. I was really caught up with a lot of college stuff and couldn't find enough time to play or post. I though managed to finish half of my book.

The main thing I realised was that reading this book not only improved my STT play, It has helped me in my overall gameplay aswell. Bet Sizing and a lot of aspects in my regular MTT game have been improved too.

So, the past week I basically stuck to the 3.5$ 9 Mans with the roll I had. Had a good upswing but then things got out of control. I played my best so I am atleast proud of that.

I had to withdraw the 100$ back temporarily so I will be playing with my remaining small bankroll till I get my 500$ on 30th August. I would also like to mix it up for the time being and try to use the knowledge I gained in this book for small field MTTSNG tourneys (45 Mans) which I used to be really good at.

So for the meanwhile till I have a playable bankroll. I will switch to the 1.5$ 45 Mans with around 25BI (Micro Bankroll) and see how that goes for me. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't. No Regrets :') and we start afresh on 30th Aug.

Results in 9Man 3.5s Overall -

Even though I went on a 13BI Downswing, I'm pretty confident my game has improved a ton after the book and I will keep at it till the volume can beat the varience.

Day 14 Ending BR : 37.91$

Enjoyed this thread, pretty decent read. Love the bits about underage play, might want to be careful being over-honest though.

Anyways good luck!
