I've increased my volume 20% since last year, it is my best year so far profit wise. I come from humble beginnings, the only jobs I've had were close to minimum wage. In the military I got a few extra benifits such as a room in the barracks and health/dental and meals at the dfac. It's not like I left any promising career to play poker. I don't need much money to be happy.

I choose to keep a positive mindset because I have no use for negativity. I work towards being a better player everyday, if I stick to it I know I will go far.
Gotcha. Well goodluck brotha, i'll be following the thread. I'll be in vegas for the $1500 deepstack event, so if you're still there hit me up.

WSOP is Officially Underway

I figured I would check out the Rio tonight. They put in new carpets like a lot of the other casinos over the last year. I actually prefer the cg on the Strip for a few reasons: Cheaper rake, no pf rake, autoshufflers, more experienced dealers. I will probably still play at Rio occasionally but I expect to put in the vast majority of my volume on the Strip this summer.

Hand 1:

V1 (300)- 40 yo white male, new to the table
Hero's Image (400)- 25 yo white male, neutral

Preflop (4):
Hero is LP dealt AJ
V1 limps UTG, Hero raises to 15, only V1 calls.

Flop (31):
K83
Checked to Hero who bets 16, V1 snap calls.

Turn (62):
6
Checks through.

River (62):
A
V1 bets 25, Hero calls.

Probably a bad call OTR even getting tempting odds.

Spoiler:
V1 shows 88, nh sir

Hand 2:

V1 (500)- 30 yo asian male, tag, I have seen him pull a few bluffs
Hero's Image (700)- 25 yo white male, tag

Preflop (4):
Hero is LP dealt AK
V1 limps UTG, MP raise to 12, Hero 3b to 48, V1 calls, pfr folds.

Flop (108):
KT4
Checked to Hero who bets 65, V1 c/r to 165, Hero tank calls.

Turn (438):
6
V1 bets 100, Hero jams, V1 tank calls.

I'm a little wary of TT and slow played KK+ but when I turn the redraw I have to go with it.

Spoiler:
I river the nuts, V1 had AK

I've gotten in a couple okay sessions, not quite as many hrs as I wanted to play though. Some nights I haven't been sleeping that well. It is really hard to have energy to play long sessions and make good decisions on low sleep.

Hand 1:

V1 (300)- 45 yo white male, hasn't been too active since sitting down a couple rounds afo
Hero's Image (540)- 25 yo white male, tag

Preflop (4):
Hero is MP dealt AA
Hero raises to 12, V1 calls from LP.

Flop (24):
T66
Hero bets 16, V1 calls.

Turn (54):
T
Checks through.

River (54):
K
Checks to who bets 30, Hero folds.

I block the most likely fds villain could have. I think is is more likely that villain is vbetting Tx than Kx.

Hand 2:

V1 (500)- 40 yo white male, tag, straight forward
Hero's Image (300)- 25 yo white male, nit, havn't played a hand in the 2 rounds since sitting down

Preflop LP posts missed blinds (8):
Hero is MP dealt K9
Hero raises to 15, 2 LP callers, V1 calls from SB.

Flop (60):
Q85
Checked to Hero who bets 35, V1 calls.

Turn (130):
T
Checked to Hero who bets 70, V1 snap calls.

River (270):
J
Checked to Hero who bets 180, V1 calls.

I decided to double barrel here with a ton of equity, I don't hate a check OTT though that might be fine. OTR stacks are perfect for a shove and villain very likely has 2p+.

Spoiler:
Villain shows QT, mhig

On the AJo hand above, why do you think it's a bad call? I think it's a call I'd make all the time, expecting to see random bluffs and Kx hands since he could easily float and steal the river with once you check.

Decade of WSOP at Rio

I've been doing my best to crank out the volume, been playing everyday for the last 16 days or so. I think I want to play like 9 out of 10 days for the duration of the series.

LLSNL forum is doing a meet up this week so I'll hopefully meet some of those posters. I am also looking forward to the annual 2+2 party next month.

Hand 1:

V1 (300)- 40 yo black male, loose passive saw him c/c second pair
Hero's Image (400)- 25 yo white male, tag, havn't been to sd

Preflop (4):
Hero is MP dealt A4
Hero raises to 12, V1 calls from BB

Flop (23):
K72
Checked to Hero who bets 16, V1 calls.

Turn (53):
4
Checked to Hero who bets 32, V1 calls.

River (117):
T
Checks through.

I have a ton of equity OTF and OTT so I think barreling is fine. I have a little sdv and I don't think villain is folding better here to 3 barrels.

Spoiler:
V1 shows 99, nh sir

Hand 2:

V1 (400)- 30 yo white male, loose passive
Hero's Image (600)- 25 yo white male, tag

Preflop (4):
Hero is LP dealt 75
Hero raises to 12, V1 calls OTB.

Flop (26):
K93
Checked to Hero who bets 16, V1 calls.

Turn (56):
T
Hero bets 32, V1 folds.

I probably slow down on a brick turn, I pick up a fd so I firgure I'll take another stab.

I feel like he has a peice when he calls OTF. When he bet the A OTR he can probably beat it. Pretty marginal either way. Thanks for the thoughts.

LLSNL Meet up at MGM

May Graph

2014 YTD Graph

May was pretty good. I surpassed my 180 hr volume goal. I am setting the same goal this month. I posted a lot of hh and commented on a lot of others hh but fell short of my target, I am looking to improve in that respect during June.

I went to the LLSNL meet up last night. It was a really fun time, saw some familiar faces and met a lot of the regs from that subforum. All were super nice individuals.

I am going to post a new vlog next time on networking which I think is a very appropriate topic for this time of year.

I am in a position to take another 1k shot at 2/5.

Hand 1:

V1 (300)- 40 yo white male, havn't seen him play any meaningful pots
V2 (600)- 30 to asian male, tag
Hero's Image (550)- 25 yo white male, tag

Preflop btn straddle is on(10):
Hero is MP dealt AA
Hero raises to 24, V1 calls from LP, V2 calls from straddle.

Flop (72):
T86
Hero bets 50, V1 calls, V2 folds.

Turn (172):
8
Hero bets 75 V1 snap raises to 150, Hero tanks a long time and shoves for 275 total, V1 folds.

I think given stack sizes it is close but I think stacking off is correct OTT.

Hand 2:

V1 (410)- 30 yo white male, saw him show up with K8o so I assume he is a pretty loose player
Hero's Image (600)- 25 yo white male, just sat down

Preflop (4):
Hero is LP dealt AA
V1 raise to 15 from MP, Hero 3b to 60, V1 calls.

Flop (120):
KK4
Checked to Hero who bets 40, V1 raises to 150 pretty quickly, Hero thinks for a bit and calls.

Turn (420):
6
V1 jams for 200 Hero folds.

Pretty annoying spot, I bet small to induce and I think it probably did the trick. OTT I now lose to Kx and flushes. I crack under the pressure. I think it's close, easy call if I had the redraw.

Spoiler:
villain shows 6 and claims he didn't have K6 so I probably got bluffed or villain turned a boat. nh sir

Pure, good to see you had a successful month.
With all the WSOP tournaments going around, have you thought about taking a shot at any of those tournaments? I am watching the final table of the millionaire maker online, it looks like a well structured, fun tournament. It is a huge field of players, but with decent hands and moves at the right time there is opportunity to make in the money.

Zakk Wylde Shredding

I went and saw Black Label Society at the new music venue inside Linq. The opening bands were pretty meh, but they both used the new Ibanez 8 string guitars which are sick. The venue has pretty good acoustics, a little bigger than house of blues but not as big as the joint at Hard Rock.

Here is my latest vlog-

Hand 1:

V1 (1000)- 50 yo white male, loose
V2 (250)- 55 to white female, nit
Hero's Image (550)- 25 yo white male, tag

Preflop (7):
Hero is LP dealt QT
V1 limps in MP, Hero raises to 25, V2 calls from SB, BB calls, V1 calls.

Flop (96):
AJ4
Checks through.

Turn (96):
4
V2 bets 40, BB folds, V1 calls, Hero calls.

River (216):
J
Checks to Hero who bets 50, V2 c/rai, V1 folds, Hero folds.

Turn call is marginal, I figured I had implied odds there aren't many plausible boat combos. OTR I feel obligated to vbet, I thought V2 probably had an A.

Spoiler:
V2 said she had quad 4s which makes sense.

Hand 2:

V1 (500)- 50 yo white male, loose passive
V2 (600)- 40 yo asian male, lag
V3 (350)- 50 yo white male, nit
Hero's Image (600)- 25 yo white male, nit, havn't played a hand

Preflop (7):
Hero is BB dealt AA
V1 limps UTG, V2 raises to 30, V3 3b to 100, Hero calls, V1-V2 call.

Flop (397):
T53
Checked to V3 who shoves, Hero shoves, fold, fold.

I felt V3 probably has an overpair, SPR will be very low if I just call, 4b looks way stronger and might fold out QQ and AK.

Spoiler:
villain shows up with QQ, mhig

Personally, I don't plan to play any tournaments this year. I am just specializing in cash games. That's my preference and I am not too familiar with tournament strat. I like the freedom of coming and going whenever I feel like it. I also like the freedom of being able to choose the stack size I want to play, table and seat select.

I also think there is much less risk to my meager bankroll grinding strictly cash games.

New Caesar Palace Poker Room

Caesars moved their poker room out on to the casino floor, lowered the rake to 4+1 (5% at 2/5 and 10% at 1/3), and increased comps to $2/hr. I think these are all positive changes. The 2/5 is uncapped, I may play here more often once my bankroll is over 10k.

Hand 1:

V1 (1300)- 30 yo white male, lag
V2 (600)- 40 yo white female, loose station
Hero's Image (560)- 25 yo white male, nit, I did squeeze once with KJo and the dealer accidentally flipped it over.

Preflop (7):
Hero is SB dealt KQ
1 MP limp, V1 raises to 15 in MP, V2 calls OTB, Hero 3b 80, V1 folds, V2 calls.

Flop (181):
K88
Hero bets 60, V2 raises to 200 pretty quickly, Hero tanks and calls.

Turn (581):
K
Hero checks, V2 shoves, Hero calls.

Flop decision is kind of hard there are some 8x in his range but given stack sizes I think I have to commit. My 1/3 psb may have induced a spaz.

Spoiler:
mhig, I asked if he had an 8, he said he forgot.

Hand 2:

V1 (500)- 50 yo white male, loose passive
V2 (700)- 30 yo white male, tag
Hero's Image (500)- 25 yo white male, tag

Preflop (7):
Hero is BB dealt 32
4 limps.

Flop (20):
832
V1 bets 20 Hero raises to 50, V2 raises to 125, everyone folds.

I don't really want to GII for stacks with bottom 2, could be drawing dead, best case I am up against a fd.

It is definitely starting to feel like a Vegas summer, we hit 106 today.

I think I've been playing pretty good lately. It looks like the shot might stick this time and I can do some real damage over the next few weeks.

Hand 1:

V1 (1000)- 35 yo white male, tight
V2 (900)- 40 yo white female, loose
Hero's Image (450)- 25 yo white male, tight

Preflop (7):
Hero is LP dealt AK
V1 raises to 20 UTG, V2 calls from MP, Hero 3b to 100, V1 folds, V2 calls.

Flop (223):
A93
Checks through

Turn (223):
Q
V2 bets 40, Hero thinks for a few seconds and jams, V2 calls pretty quickly.

I obviously smashed the flop, felt like I could rep TT-KK with a check behind and induce some action. When he bet OTT I felt like he had a decent hand so I just shipped for about a psb.

Spoiler:
Villain shows A6, mhig

Hand 2:

V1 (900)- 30 yo asian male, tag
V2 (800)- 30 yo white male, loose
Hero's Image (585)- 25 yo white male, haven't really played any meaningful pots, haven't 3b yet

Preflop (7):
Hero is SB dealt QQ
V1 raises to 25 from LP, 1 call, V2 calls OTB, Hero 3b to 150, V1-V2 call without any deliberation.

Flop (477):
443
Hero thinks for a bit and shoves, V1 folds, V2 tank calls.

I am pretty sure I would get 4b by KK+ so I am fairly confident I have the best hand. Slightly less than a psb left OTF so easy shove.

Spoiler:
V2 said he had JJ, mhig

I missed my volume target by 12.5 hrs so I will tack it on to the next mini challenge and shoot for 72.5 this time.

I had one kind of interesting spot I am about to go post in LLSNL.

Hand 1:

V1 (320)- 55 yo white male, loose pf, hasn't bluffed yet
Hero's Image (500)- 25 yo white male, lag

Preflop (7):
Hero is SB dealt KT
Hero raises to 15, V1 called from BB.

Flop (27):
T74
Hero bets 20, V1 calls.

Turn (67):
9
Hero bets 35, V2 raises to 75, Hero folds.

Kind of any annoying spot OTT, he might raise worse tp but I am losing to most of his range. I haven't seen him bluff so I guess I have to give him credit here.

Hand 2:

V1 (900)- 40 yo white male, tag
V2 (400)- 40 yo asian male, tight
Hero's Image (550)- 25 yo white male, lag

Preflop (7):
Hero is BTN dealt A8
V1 raises to 15 from MP, V2 calls from LP, Hero calls.

Flop (48):
763
Checked to Hero who bets 20, V1 folds, V2 calls.

Turn (88):
9
Checked to Hero who bets 40, V2 calls.

River (168):
A
Checks through.

I figured I would take a stab OTF with some bd equity. I pick up an oesd OTT so I fire another barrel. I bink tp OTR maybe could have put in a small vbet.

Spoiler:
I show, mhig
