Here's another bad beat jackpot hand I played this week:

Was the prize only losing $27.5 in the hand?

Hey mate what are your thoughts on skipping the micros and playing nl100 because of rake? Obviously assuming bankroll/liferoll is adequate.

Probably could've lost less with the line he took.

I haven't played micros in a long time but I'd imagine there's still a big jump between the micros and 100nl. If I were you I'd take a 6-10 buy in shot at 50nl and go from there

Sorry I haven't been updating this blog much as of late, I have been really struggling with depression.

I have been putting in more volume at live poker than online recently.

Glasgow poker scene is much softer than London with lower rake and even though it's just 1/2 because it's max 1k buy in it plays a lot more like 2/5. I'd like to think my long term hourly in these games is over £30 for sure, maybe even £40.

The big con for Glasgow's scene is that it's very much a graveyard shift to grind. The game start's at 19:00 and end at 06:40. Still, I am planning on grinding 30 hours of live every single weekend for the rest of the year. While focusing on grinding online during the weekdays.

Online is not going well at all right now. That's party due to variance but mostly due to laziness. Live poker is such an easy money print compared to online and I just need to be more disciplined with study and execution and treat online with more respect, even when I'm just cleaning up at the casino.

I've fallen off the tracks with regards to fitness and comedy as well. I see myself as being so distant from where I want to be and it's easy for me to just smoke or drink the days away while watching Netflix or whatever. I just need to start forcing myself to try and progress towards these goals that I have for my future.

Hopefully I'll start feeling better soon and give a more cheery update about how my life is going.

Until then keep it real and gl at the tables

Glad you are back Hurt, one of the best blogs on here.

Definitely know what you mean about London shoebox living ha, always more relaxed when have a bit more space.

Looking forward to your blogging the Vegas trip next year, wonder if you will end up moving to a city with higher stakes live at some point - as it seems London only has 2/5 to grind everyday and 5/10 + games must have a nice hourly for you if it would be possible as a UK citizen to find and live in a city like that full time but guess there arenÂ’t too many options worldwide.

Yeah hope you feel better soon and online starts going well again, and whenever you are ready guess you will start to do well at the comedy and fitness too, good luck with it all!

Thanks, boys. Always appreciate the kind words.

------

I have decided to leave Glasgow and return to Bangkok next month.

Main reasons for this are:

- Stepping away from the easy money print that is the Glasgow live scene will help better regulate my sleeping and eating habits.

- My online game has been negatively impacted by the amount of time I've put into live poker, so moving to Thailand will free up time that I can invest in sharpening up online.

- I hate living with these two slobs that never clean up after themselves and I want to live on my own again.

- I firmly believe that the nice weather will be a big help as I put in the effort to heal my mental health problems.

I am gutted that my good mate Daniel (Ouga Buga on stars) will still be in the UK and won't back in Bangkok until March, and by that time I'll most likely be over in Vegas

Any Bangkok based lurkers of this thread are free to hit up my dms and we can hang out when I'm over there.

Going to make sure I grind heaps in Glasgow before I head out to the Land of Smiles.

Peace

Been back in Thailand for a week now and I'm absolutely loving life again!

Weed I purchased legally here.

When I first came here four years ago I would never have imagined Thailand would've done this. These are for sure crazy times we're living in.

Seeing as how I'll be in Thailand for the rest of the year and have no intention of playing in the underground live games here I thought I'd share my 2022 live results

Really big difference in £/hour between playing in Glasgow and London, despite 95%+ of hours in both cities being at £1/£2.

I think a slightly tougher pool and higher rake in London was a big factor, but I was also just very green at live poker, and it was initially quite tough to adjust. I'm very happy that I did make the best of a bad situation in London and devote time to live poker. It's a lot of and I look forward to putting in more hours at live poker games in different parts of the world in 2023 and beyond.

I am indeed devoting more time the online grind again, so hopefully I can finish the year strong in that world again too.

I still have big plans for my poker and comedy career next year, so do expect more updates and content soon!

Hard to know where to start after so long without updating, but here's a couple of photos from the Koh Samui comedy show back in January:

Was so sick to get paid while being flown out and given free accommodation in a 5 star resort to tell some jokes to 150 expats living on a Thai Island. One of the highlights of 2023 so far for sure.

Any of my Russian lurkers Viktor Komarov fans?

Shortly after spending a few days on an Island Paradise it was off to Cambodia for a month to grind at Nagaworld

I grinded there for 4 weeks and was pretty disappointed with the place as a whole. The rake is MUCH higher than in Scotland. $15 cap over $300 on the 1/3 and $20 cap over $400 on the 2/5.

There was also a $5 tax to run it twice and I just generally didn't like how lenient the floor was towards string betting and players talking in foreign languages at the table. There is also no betting line on the table, and there was one very annoying instance where I checked to a player on the river and he pushed all of his chips into the middle of the table holding on to them as his arm was fully extended all the way out. As I picked up a chip to throw in the call he pulled it all back and said "check." I called the floor and they said it wasn't binding because he didn't release his grip on the stack. They didn't even hold him to a minimum bet so I could reopen the action. Very dumb.

I definitely did appreciate seeing higher stakes games running at times (As high as 20/40 with lots of $80 straddles) but Naga is not cardroom I am in a hurry to go back to, even if it's one of the few options in my favorite region of the world. Still met some great people in Cambodia. So shoutout to BigBananas, OpticAdam, PollardPoker, zLasVegas, Andy, Andreas, Jorden, Dwayne (The Gilf Hunter) and all the other people that were out there playing cards when I was.

I did also manage to do a few stand-up shows while I was there!

After that I went to Laos for a week

First time visiting the place and I loved it, really chill country that's worth visiting if you love nature and want to see what Thailand was like 40 years ago.

I went to Vang Vieng and did a lot of psychedelics. Just me in a quiet bar with sick mountain views and a happy menu.

After that it was back to Thailand. It was then I had a mental breakdown, where I had to cancel plans to go to Vegas and just fly back to Glasgow, where I am now.

--------------

life in Glasgow is pretty good right now. I'm still doing stand-up and I'm balancing my time between grinding online and live poker well. I'm also very happy with my living situation. My flatmate is a powerlifting brain surgeon (Total Gigachad!) who I get on very well with. I took a 3 month break/detox from social media when I got back home. It was extremely therapeutic, but saying that, I have recently come to the realization that it would be for the benefit of my comedy pursuits to be a completely social media whore.

The unfortunate reality of making it as a stand-up in 2023 is that it is not about who is the best joke writer or onstage performer (Not that I'm suggesting I'm currently great at either) but it's really about who can make make the most watched 20 second tiktok videos. It's the people with the social media following that are given preference over those that are making no effort in that domain every single time. I can't really fault promoters, because they're just trying to make money and obviously the guy who can plug the ticket link to their 50 thousand instagram followers is more likely going to help them sell out the show, but it does make this craft feel a lot less like a "meritocracy" than it was years ago.

I will start making tiktok content in July, along with being a bit more active on Instagram and twitter as well. I am also thinking about streaming poker on twitch, so let me know if any of you guys might be interested in that.

I promise it won't be another 6+ months before my next update

gl in July
