Hello all, ive had quite an interesting time reading all these post about people quitting there job with 2 buys in to become a full time poker player. Reading about people who their goal is to make a million this year with 1000br and a full time student. Its really actually depressing. Im going to share my story in hopes that others realize poker is not a get rich quick scheme. It can be, but few and far between. I could care less if anyone likes how I handle my bank roll management but I believe it is a good strategy to create some extra income.
Every year for the past 3 years, I pull out $500 in January. The deal I have with my wife who is not a poker fan is if I lose $500 this year, I dont play until next january. Every year I win, as long as it is above the original $500, I deposit my winnings into our account and start with another $500. For a quick overview,
In 2010 I started with $500 with a goal of $2000. By december, I made $4500In 2011 I started with $500 with a goal of $5000. By december, I made $6000In 2012 I started with $500 with a goal of $7500. By december, I made $7400
All those 3 years that only included 1 day a week for 5 hours. The reason for that is 2 other days of the week I played competitive billards for relaxation. Starting this year, I missed january because I was so busy with work, I played all of febuary only 1 day a week and Im up $1575 so far, March i got married and honeymooned and all that jaz and now were in April. Now my pool league is over and Im playing poker 3 times a week. The goal for this year is $10000. The reason im not shooting for quarter million, or 100000 win is becuase Im keeping my full time job which i dont get paid very much but in return i dont do very much. Ive been at work for 4 hours now, and only had 1 phone call and no customers enter the store and at $16/h, thats hard to beat. So my goal is to increase my winnings yearly until BOOM, it clicks in my wifes head that i can play 20-25 hours a week, be home more with her and still make the same amoutn of money. I like my strategy becuase i win.
I only play $1-$3nlh and I average $300-$500 each time. Now I do lose but I never re-buy. To me thats pointless. Your spending more money reguardess if you tilt or not with the mindset that I have to win my previous buy in back before I can start playing properly again which is ******ed. I always buy in with $300 and if i lose that the first hand by being sucked out, lucky for the other guy and Im out till the next day. Just how I play poker. I win alot and I lose a little. That is how I am profitable and consistant at poker.
Take care
