Goal: No More Tilting Ever Again!!!! Goal: No More Tilting Ever Again!!!!

As of today I estimate I have lost over $1000 of my bankroll due to tilting. My tilting behavior includes:

1. Chasing losses by moving up several levels
2. Raising every hand and every flop
3. Refusing to quit when stuck
4. Playing too long in general including 12 hour sessions
5. Playing games Im not familiar with like razz for high stakes
6. Not following any basic bankroll management
7. Calling when I have a bad draw or know I'm beat

Ok, usually I'm on my A GAME, and I'm winning.. but when I tilt, I violate all my principles and I lose everything I have worked so hard for. This has to stop!!!!

I have developed a system to stop tilting. Its a simple operant-conditioning system, like giving a dog a treat every time it succeeds, and punishing it when it fails.

Basically, when I have committed an offense by tilting, I have to drink 6 bottles of pepsi in a row and 10 cups of spinach, broccoli, and other vegetables that I hate. I also calculate the percent of bankroll that I lost and based on a mathematical system, I am not allowed to player poker anymore for a certain amount of weeks.

I haven't worked out the reward for not tilting, but possibly for every 10 sessions that I don't tilt, I get some baseball cards or something.

So far I have tilted badly once, and I ended up throwing up in my toilet after punishing myself... will this condition me to stop tilting?

I'll keep you guys posted...

#1 is the worst one of all. Moving up levels when losing is a surefire way to wreck your bankroll in the long run. I destroyed my bankroll that way when I started, did multiple deposits and then quit poker for two years. Then I started playing where I was so strict with bankroll management: super nitty where I don't buy in for more than 1% or 2% and I started with $10 just for fun. I'm at $350 now. I was so surprised that I can actually be more than a losing or break-even player if I just stick to a proper bankroll system. I still tilt but I don't move up levels when I'm losing and that's been enough to make slow (snail pace) but steady progress. I'm not donking away thousands of dollars anymore, and this time when I reach $1000, I'll have earned it making good plays and not repeated deposits.

You have to have confidence in your game. Poker is a game that normally rewards long term decision-making. You can't expect to see positive progress on a daily basis.

Pocket aces still loses to pocket sixes about 1 in 5 times. That's far more frequent than we tend to think. Some days you might lose in such spots twice in a row. If you tilt, you might get lucky and win back your money, but there's no way such plays will be rewarding in the long term. If you keep doing it, you're just a regular short-term gambler bound to go broke at some point and you'd be better off quitting when you're ahead.

Anyway, good luck on maintaining your composure!

Good luck! It's something I'm sure most of use would like to improve with their game; trying not to tilt
