I've been playing poker for about a year and a half now. I primarily played 6max cash until last summer when I started playing HUSnGs. In both games my problem has always been discipline. I've had success at relatively low stakes, but after running up my roll and moving up, when I hit a downswing I've been opposed to moving back down, cause I like the thought of what I could be earning at higher stakes. I also have issues with tilt management, trying to win back my losses by playing higher stakes. This lack of discipline has caused me to be a losing player. I'm hoping that by creating this thread and posting in it daily, I'll be able to stay disciplined and stay at stakes that I can beat.

I'll be depositing $350 on FullTilt and playing $11 HUSnGs until I reach 100 games, at which point I'll decide whether to move up or stay at the $11s.

Very good goal! I imagine just about every player in the world would benefit from doing this. Isildur1 anyone?

I have found moderate success in attempting to do this by breaking down my goal further to make it concrete and acheivable. For example, never play after I have had a drink, with no exceptions of excuses. Obviously, you will be very different to me but perhaps breaking down your goal into smaller peices will help. Time limits/stop losses/ firm bankroll limits etc.

Good luck!

lol my goal is even more modest... try not to blow off my BR on PS. The all time record for keeping a BR is 3 weeks... gl OP. HU SNGs are particularilly tough to handle emotionally... I've tried to grind them and realised I was too much of a monkey tilter.

Nice to see a more achievable goal posted!

It seems that nearly every other post in this forum is along the lines of "make $X in Y days" which isn't really a great idea for poker IMO because you have no control over the winning part...

gl with your quest and hope you find the discipline you seek!

The only thing that you can do at a poker table is make good decisions. Your discipline will kick in as you play the hand right and don't throw extra money in with a mediocre holding.

Put in X amount of matches each day. Know how long each game lasts on average and however many hours you can put in, aim for putting in those many matches.

Open up a wordpad document, record your bankroll, the amount of games you played (wins / losses), and the profit / loss for that day.

When you put in your X amount of games whether its a profit or loss your work day is over. Repeat each day until you put in 100 or 200 matches. You may need to put in 200 matches to move up to the next stakie. For example, you're playing $11+$.50 HU-turbo? If you're going by 30:1 bankroll you would have $300 to start and if you win 60% of your matches you profit $170 for every 100 games. After 200 games you profit $340 for a $640 bankroll, and can move up to $22+$1 with $600. I personally aim for 60% HU match wins but it wont always be 60 wins out of every 100 you play.

This will help discipline yourself putting in X amount of games. You'll have daily losses its apart of the game what matters is your profit at end of the week. You'll probably have 4 profitable days, 1 even day, and 1 loss day out of the week for example.

You might get burnt out playing HUSNG as I always do, been playing almost 5 years. Watch online poker videos to motivate you and participate here at 2+2. Dont play if you dont feel like playing and take a day off or a half day.

You'll definately do good bro. Consider playing up to 4 matches to increase your volume. Compare how many wins you get playing 1-table, 2-table, and at 4-tables, calculate it and find which is more profitable. Any questions, lmk.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Ertai, I won't be playing more than one table at a time. For HUSnGs I find it hard to focus on more than one match at once. Also, part of the discipline goal is to really focus on my game instead of profits. The higher stakes tempt me because of the chance to make more money, even though my game isn't solid enough to be profitable at those stakes yet. So by taking it step by step I hope to improve the foundations of my playing along the way. I think multi-tabling will only hurt my ability to do this.

Gl. whenever you feel tilted just stop playing and take a quick break. go take a walk outside to cool down, just get away from the tables, the worst thing you can do is keep playing when you are pissed off and know you will play bad.

Not playing at all is pretty disciplined.

Here are my results after 43 games.

The good:
- I've only played $11 HUSnGs.
- 11.22 ROI

The bad:
- I think my playing could have been better.

Given that I've already played 43 games, I'm gonna scrap the 100 game idea unless my bankroll reaches a point where I'm comfortable playing $22s. I think I'd be comfortable playing $22s with a bank roll around $500. This is of course, assuming I have continuing success at $11s.

1-6 so far today. Really lacking confidence at the moment. 4 of the games were right after I woke up, so I probably wasn't as focused as I should be when playing. Regardless, I don't feel as though any of my opponents actually had an edge on me. Gotta discipline myself to always think during a match, regardless of how bad I think my opponent is.

Not familiar with HUSNG bankroll req's but isn't 25ish buyins pretty low?

also I'd work on learning how to multitable better. 1 tabling is so unprofitable for an hourly unless you're playing godlike stakes
