Day 2

Total Monthly Profits: -253$ out of 1600$

Playing at 30$ stakes is so depressing. Out of 71 matches the 69 were with good regs And offcourse every single time i move up a stake from 1,5$ all the way to 30$ i run like crap. I am down 17 buyins adjusted EV from 170 matches

I believe they just sharkscope me and see that most of my games were at lower stakes and insta add me as fish... I played with a guy over 30 matches, we are break even and he still insta sits me...are these people ******ed?

Day 3

Total Monthly Profits: -75$ out of 1600$

Things were a bit better today. Way more fish than usual and some mediocre regs even avoided me.

So far i am under ~625$ EV adjusted. My game after checking my database is better than ever! I probably hit a positive card distribution along with single tabling resulting a 8+% adjusted roi.

I am a bit left behind from the daily goal of ~75 games since its super hard to even get 20 games per hour.

One positive i noticed is that now with single tabling and with long breaks between games my mind is not stress as much, (like with 2 tabling 33+ games per hour) i can play longer hours and have more fun with the game overall.

Had to do some staff/got lazy/faced the usuall problems etc. the last two days so not much grinding going on.

I have also decided to stop the daily updates to this thread because it usually takes me 20-30 minutes per day or about 10-15 hours per month!!! All that time could be used at grinding or studying the games so i will use a new approach.

I will post from now and on the total results from the start of each month. I will update 1-2 times per week:

So from the start of the month i have played mostly at 30$ stakes (added very few 15$ when there was no action):

Total Monthly Profits: -181$ out of 1600$

If my adjusted ROI% stays at that rate i may even stop crying about regs siting me all the time

First week results:

Total Monthly Profits: 138$ out of 1600$

Looks like i am having trouble with volume. I have added 15$ stakes and two even 3 tabling some times but those sharky lines are way worse than i thought.

The last 2-3 days its always over 30 people from early hours to late at night!

I just need to try my best to at least finish as platinumstar for the month and survive the regwars!

So i have now played about 10-11 days at the 30$ stakes and everything looks so interesting.

First of all i started playing 99% regs that insta sit me all the time. That and the long sharky lines made me depressed at the start. I thought i would be stuck at the 15$ and spend an eternity to improve.

I was whining to regs to let me alone since i was "decent" and they should go play fish instead. They kept sitting me because my stats coming from lower stakes looked like crap as i suspected.

Then i realized that for some reason they did not have an edge vs me but also i was actually slightly ahead. I am talking about vs solid pros with 3% ROIs at 30-60$ stakes.

Since they were siting me like ******s all the time i decided to stop waiting at the line and then get sat by them and actually go fight them really hard. So at this point almost none of them sits me.

Not only that but the decent regs with 1-2% ROIs... i absolutely destroyed them and i actually hunt them down when there is no action. That would teach them to harass upcoming stars from lower stakes

So I am very proud of my game so far. But there is a huge issue (as always). Pokerstars decided to give me the worst downswing of my life.

These are the games i played so far, mostly 30$ stakes 90% of them are with solid regs:

Total Monthly Profits: -145$ out of 1600$

I run over 4% roi adjusted and thats with regs...but under 1000$ EV. In fact i run bad for atleast 2 months now since last month i ended up way under ev too...

Anyway i am waiting for variance to change and expecting to sustain or improve my roi since now hopefully i will get to play more fish. I feel so excited!

2 weeks progress:

Yea the most ridiculous downswing since i started playing continues and even gets worse. WTF???

I can't believe that i have beat 95% of the regs and there are still some ******s that we are break even or they are slight losers and still sit me all the time.

One of them asked me to play 1k games to prove him i am good. ROFL....

RUN GOOD ONE TIME!!!!!

Btw i even saw coffeyay sit at the 30$ early hours and some 100$ regs. LOL. What's going to happen next? Phil Ivey will start siting?

Finally had a decent weekend and gathered some significant data and results after 17 days of playing the 30$ stakes:

Total Monthly Profits: 170$ out of 1600$

Looks like i am crushing these stakes by far!

With over 4% ROI adjusted while running like crap and playing over 80% of the time solid regs that just don't want to sit fish.

I am estimating my hourly rate to be at 28$ with rakeback. That seems like a dream for me in comparison to where i was before 7 months.

Now if stars give me back my EV and those ******ed fishregs stop sitting me things could look even better at the future !

Taaaa Daaaaaaaaaaaaa:

And i just hit my goal of 1600$ profits (atleast in adjusted EV along with rakeback) 10 days earlier which is so sick.

Also i beat another solid reg today. So far i have beaten 3 regs from the sharkscope top 10 leaderboards (along with like 50 other good regs)!

Oh btw pokerstars this is for you:

I have missed your thread somehow, probably because there is no HU or hypers in the title, too lazy to open random threads, heh. Subbed now, gl with the grind. Interesting how many regs are sitting you, obviously you're doing good job though.

6 MOARR DAYS LEFT:

Total Monthly Profits: 3$ out of 1600$ (LOLs)

Funny things happening all the time:

I finally scared 99% of the regs and now i am playing almost always fish. It is mind-blowing that these whales even exist at these stakes. I am talking about people open shoving 95o first hand 25bb. I haven't seen such fish since the 3,5$ stakes!

When i was railing the high stakes i noticed something similar. ******ed plays by donks playing vs pros like Serkules and i was thinking this can't be true there has to be some meta to such plays. Well looks like there is no meta. The fish don't have "stake lvls". They just play according to their wallet.

If this trend continues i can easily see myself sustaining a ROI of >6%. This seams realistic based on my current results where 50% of my games are versus regs and the rest are vs fish that run good vs me but that will hopefully change soon.

I have also done some research and have some ideas of how to further improve my game. I haven't done much studying the past 1 month and this needs to change in order to be ready to fight the cartels when my bankroll increases.

Anyway 6 days left for the month and i need to grind ~400 more games to hit my final goal of achieving Platinumstar. Let's get to work!

Yea haha maybe i need to ask some mods to change the title or start a new thread with new goals since i have moved way further than i was hoping before 8 months!

The problem i had with regs is sharkscope's fault i guess. They see me coming from low stakes were i played thousands of games since i am such a nit and they think "lets play this fish". My recent downswing makes things even worse since all they see is someone with 0% ROI at the 30$ instead of ~4%.

Ahh i know who you are now lol. Only played 2 games vs you at 30s. I was the one who sat you cause I didn't want to wait in the sharky line for 25 ppl the other day if you remember. Pretty brutal start to the 30s for you. Same thing happened when I moved up aswell.
And ya the fish at the 30s are just as bad as the fish at the 3.5s haha. GL man hope you get a upswing soon.

AUGUST RESULTS:

Total monthly profits in adjusted EV plus rakeback: +2450$ or 1866 euros!

My August goals were:
  • Beat the 30$ stakes for atleast 2% ROI. (DONE)
  • Play at least 2162 matches (72 daily) to achieve Platinumstar status for +330$ rakeback. (DONE)
  • Earn a total of 1600$ profits. (DONE in adjusted ev)

What a crazy month it has been. I moved to the 30$ stakes for the first time in my life. Had to fight hordes of regs in order to leave me alone. Eventually i did it and now i am able to play fish.

My results in adjusted ev were way better than i thought. In fact about 50% of my games were vs solid regs. Also the hand distribution of my last 800+ matches was ridiculously bad so i am expecting to see even better results the upcoming months!

Unfortunately i am running under EV from July until now (60 days):

I am like -2000$ under EV... I should have 100+ buy ins for the 60$ stakes right now but yea FML as usual .

Anyway i never give up and i am planning to do my best for September. Hopefully variance will improve and i will see some real results soon that will enable me to start taking shots at the 60$!

September goals:
  • Beat the 30$ stakes fish for at least 4% ROI.
  • Play at least 2162 matches (72 daily) to sustain Platinumstar status for +400$ rakeback.
  • Earn a total of 3000$ profits with rakeback.

This was easy to do in HM1 (by far the best software). Unfortunately in PT4 the only way i could do it was by playing solely 1 table and see results then start only 2 tabling and see results and compare them.

Then i realized that it has no point at the 30$ and up because there is no action and you have to play what ever you can...

For example at the 30$ stakes i could wait 3 minutes to get a game that lasts 10 seconds then wait 3 minutes again and other times i could be 3 tabling!

The rakeback calculations have been done by pokerstars themselves. They have a page about their VIP program and state exactly how much is the rakeback. I have checked all their calculations myself (since most other pokersites lie) and they are correct.

One thing that interested me was when you changed the hours you grind to try to be more profitable, can I ask what time you played and what times you now play?? as this is something I am currently looking into myself.

Cheers

Guys just post here any questions you have its easier to read and replay here than with pms.

The best way to do this is by checking your database for exact hours/days and see when you are more/less profitable. This was again super easy with HM1. I haven't done it with PT4 lately but there is a similar function.

Not many updates the last ~2 weeks since unfortunately looks like i burned out. This happened probably due to pushing myself hard to hit goals along with 2+ months of running bad. At some point i just lost interest after trying hard every single day just to see bad results.

Anyway i have done some research about the psychology of repetitive tasks
or work the so called "grinding" and looks like its impossible to actually enjoy all that with quick fixes like listening to music or whatever.

The only theoretical solution that makes sense is to create artificial achievements or milestones or challenges that are attainable but not very easy at the same time. The completion of these challenges is supposed to give all the enjoyment you will ever gain from the grind.

I have seen this work already for me in other areas like studying the game where constant breakthroughs were happening keeping the process fun.

For this reason i will create small and big challenges that i hope will provide more enjoyment and will help me to put more time and effort in poker.

Number #1 challenge that i want to focus on right now is to build a bankroll and the skills to enter the 60$ cartels.

Here is my graph since i started playing again this year:

I am still under EV ~1200$ and i already have around 3800$ plus more with rakeback. I would say altogether i have made at least 5500$.

I need about 100 buyins (6000$) to take the shot at the 60$ cartels and another 100 buy ins (3000$) left back for the 30$ stakes in case variance hits me negatively.

So a total of 9000$ to be comfortable. If variance evens out along with my rakeback i am missing about 3500$ to be ready to take the 60$ stakes shot and this will be my main challenge from now on.

Along with bankroll i will need to improve my skills. I have already noticed that there are many 60$ cartel members that have lower ROI than mine in the 30$ stakes. This means that i could potentially do it with my current skills but i want to be sure that i don't fail.

If everything works well (one time! ) with a hourly of 20-30$ i could be ready to take the shot within 1-2 months and be a 60$ reg before Christmas!!
