quick update for now: I have fallen in love with the city of Medellin, Colombia and rented an airbnb for an extra month instead of continuing my travels. I'm still crushing poker and life. The girls here are amazing. The people of Colombia are so nice and welcoming to stupid gringos that can't speak Spanish. The poker scene is decent. It's super safe. I'm walk to the casino and back to my apartment at 2am and don't feel threatened ever. To be fair, I'm in probably the poshest area of medellin. But i've been to other parts and haven't felt danger yet.

I remember when I first started this thread I met a guy playing at Ebro who was American but relocated to Colombia and we started talking about it. I told him I wanted to visit but don't know any Spanish. And I remember he tried so hard to talk me out of it. He said it was SOOOOO dangerous. Even for people like him that spoke Spanish. But surely a gringo like me, who speaks 0 Spanish, and doesn't know a soul in Colombia, could not survive in Colombia. Moral of the story is be very selective about who you listen. 90% of people don't know jack **** and just talk out of there ass. I remember before I moved to the Philippines for a year people were trying to talk me out of it because it was so dangerous there

Oh also, I went to Cartagena for the weekend, I actually literally just got back to my apartment in Medellin. Met another American gringo and a local guy at the poker table a few days ago and we started drinking and became friends. The gringo guy said he had a baller apartment in Cartagena rented for the next month and he was leaving the next day and we could come stay with him for free. I didn't seriously consider it at the time, we were drunk, and we just met and even if he was serious at the time, the next day when he sobered up he would change his mind, right?

Well the next day me and the Colombian guy met up for drinks and started talking about it and I brought up the idea of taking him up on his offer. So we text him and he's super excited, he's like yeah bro you guys can stay with me for free for the weekend, what kind of drugs do you like? I'll buy whatever drugs you are into and some hookers and we can rent a boat and go island hopping around the coast of Cartagena. So we booked our tickets and were in Cartagena the next day.

Probably one of the craziest weekends of my life lol. Went and traveled and stayed with 2 guys that I had only known for a few days lol. So anyways, they turned out to be cool as ****. We ended up renting a boat for the day on Sunday and brought 4 hookers and then they came back to the apartment and partied with us that night. It was pretty wild lol.

And after this weekend I'm making a pledge right now to not drink any alcohol for the next 30 days. I've been getting too OOL lately, I need a break, and also I was disgusted with myself in the photos from this weekend lol. I'm not fat, and I am starting to put on some muscle, but you can definitely tell I like to drink beer lol. 600-1200 empty calories of beer every day, does not a good beach body make. I want to be looking sexy by the summer in Vegas. So that's the goal. Let's get it.

It was definitely not as good as I remembered when I did it again in Central America last month, even went right into the slums in the worst neighbourhoods in Managua to get it from a drug house and not just from a taxi driver or someone soliciting me, still wasn't that good.

hey man just wanted to say this is a really sweet comeback thread and i don't know if you'll believe me but i went busto like you 50kto0 in a years worth, and at the beginning of December i started with $800 and now im at 31k (all from live poker and running deep in a live MTT)

Managed my money poorly and tilted off at the tables most of the time were my downfall was reading this thread when i had nothing and i thought about hows anythings possible in poker but the most important thing isn't money but just trying to grow everyday and just being grateful literally

So disappointing that it looks like Biden is going to win the Democratic nomination. The DNC did everything in their power to sabotage Bernie and it worked again. So incredibly frustrating to me. But, I might as well profit off it. Trump is -145 on Bovada and I see NO way Biden can beat Trump.

I want to bet 10k on Trump winning the Presidential election. It seems massively +EV based on the recent turn of events. I truly thought Bernie had a good chance at beating him but I don't see how Biden does. Trump will wipe the floor with him in the debates. And the whole Republican party has coalesced around Trump. Meanwhile, the Democractic party is more splintered than ever. Biden inspires nobody. He was nobody's first choice. Biden is like Olive Garden, you end up there because you can't get 12 people to agree on sushi.

But, there could be something I'm missing. I hate losing money. So if there is anybody that has a compelling reason on why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this bet, please please let me know your thoughts. I could have some blind spots, but right now I don't see how Biden beats Trump. -145 looks insanely juicy.

I would take either Sanders or Biden vs Trump, but unless you have a BR of 250k+, 10k sounds MASSIVELY like a degen move, something I thought you were trying to avoid... I would ever only bet 5-8% of my BR (and probably not...) on the bet of the decade, and this certainly only feels like a hunch. My 2cents. Can we get Colombia updates now

After seeing how Corbyn got destroyed in the UK election by Johnson I'm not convinced that as many people get behind the more socialist political ideas as some people think. I know we can't draw parallels between the countries or the electoral systems but so many people thought Corbyn would bring 'real change' but in reality he has never come that close.

I put a big bet on the Conservatives the night of the election based on how convinced I was. I think a lot of people believing in the Socialist revolution in the UK were really surprised but it's because they spend so much time on social media surrounded people like themselves. All they ever hear is reinforcing their beliefs so when the results hit it was a real shock.

I think it's awesome when every person has a candidate that represents them but I think putting Sanders against Trump will put so many people in an uncomfortable position - people who hate Trump but also don't believe in Sanders' more socialist ideas.

I can't speak too much about the US but I think the biggest risk to the UK Conservative party is not another Socialist like Corbyn but a more moderate candidate who can appeal to a wider range of people.

Dub, even looking at that site (which admittedly I don’t know much about), I think that view is very wrong, and I say that as someone who dislikes and would never vote for Trump. I would be utterly shocked if Sanders becomes president...even after being utterly shocked four years ago on Election Day. It would take some kind of massive controversy arising involving Trump (and by that I mean something well beyond the existing ones) with Sanders as the democratic candidate for Sanders to have any realistic shot imo. I’m not endorsing OP’s bet or anything, just stating a view that not enough of this country is prepared to vote for Sanders and anything suggesting otherwise is probably just noise.

Biden has a better shot then Bernie in the general. Sanders would have lost by a lot. There is a reason the DNC made the moves they did the last week to ensure Biden did well on Super Tuesday and snuff out Bernie.

Biden is not going to do well in the debates though, perhaps if enough people hate Trump it won't matter.

I'm trying to think of reasons not to place the bet. This is probably the most likely reason I can come up with.

Other reasons:

1) Coronavirus wreaks havoc in USA and people start to resent Trump for not taking action sooner/calling it a hoax in the beginning.
2) The economy takes a huge **** either because of coronavirus or other factors and Trumps favorability plummets with the stock market.

I think both of these scenarios are plausible. Probably won't bet it now actually. Although, in a vacuum, if you ran the sim 100 times, I think Trump beats Biden enough times out of 100 to make -145 very profitable.

The guy is clearly experiencing cognitive decline (Biden) and probably the early stages of dementia. Trump will destroy him in debates. In a normal year I think it's a slam dunk bet. This is just such a weird year (verge of possible pandemic, verge of economic recession/depression) that I think it makes predicting events like this much riskier. I guess I'll sit this one out. Or maybe just go small (1450 to win 1k?)

Also I agree with you Dub on Bernie vs Trump, but unfortunately I think he has no shot of becoming Dem nominee after today. He was the one I was rooting for Unless something shocking happens, it's going to be Biden.

Interesting point here. People definitely get trapped in information tunnels. One tends to follow only or mostly people with the same political ideologies, on twitter for example, than opposing ideologies. So when one logs on to twitter every day to get their daily political news, it's all coming from the same slant and may not be representative of reality. Definitely something I'm guilty of and something to keep in mind in the future.

I think we saw the same thing with Brexit in London. So many people thought it would never happen but we’re living in a European cosmopolitan city, people never looked outside to see what the rest of the country thought.

I would bet your net worth on biden if I was you. That way if you win you can play a 100k super high roller and win that and go on to win the one drop for 10 million.

Unfortunately I also think this to be the case, especially in the USA. We've been brainwashed to think that "socialism = bad" and the vast majority of the voting public believe that. I've heard far too many stories of people voting against their own interests b/c they believe socialism would harm the country. I can't help but think "but these policies would directly help you, you fool!". So frustrating, but the USA probably needs another 15-20 years of olds dying off before the perception will shift enough to accept someone like Bernie/AOC.
