Live PLO hand from a local casino (The Bike, check it out, it's a nice place to play and games seem good). So it's a 3 blind pot in this hand, someone raises, Amer calls and Joey squeezes? with AKJT. Amer defends with AJ87 and we go to the flop.
4T8 rainbow. Check, check. Seems pretty good. Galfond agrees.
So we head to the turn, where Amer makes a very questionable lead with bottom pair and two gutshots. Joey raises what looks to be less than pot for some reason. Amer calls, hoping to take it away on the various straightening rivers that he perceives will not improve Joeys hand.
And there it is, the point of the story. Being able to inflate the pot because you are very deep with marginal hands because you are playing against a defined range preflop. Amer takes advantage of certain scare cards, but is it a good play to head into the river with what looks to be low equity and some reverse implied odds?
How would you prevent being exploited by Amer's river lead?
Perhaps add some river calls starting with the broadway blockers?
