If only you could handle controversial topics online as well PLO variance, How much $ needs to be made until you can walk away from poker soft Teddy.

These days when I'm finding it hard to put in volume because I'm a bit scared of the swings or something, I'll warm up on some 500z tables and play for 10 minutes. If after 10 mins I'm still not feeling it, I'll just try again later. So I guess play some lower stakes and get into the swing of things?

Cheers bruv. Yeah idk either, it's not a walk in the park for me hah. I just kinda keep my head down and remember that I'm a winning player over X hands and it kinda helps I guess. Plus I do that play-at-lower-stake thing when I'm feeling gunshy.

Thanks!
I actually was thinking about that the other day, putting PLO200 there is probably incorrect since I never play it hah. Unfortunately, I'm still far from regularly playing 10k though

If I carry on as I am (winning lower 6figs a year), I don't think I'd ever quit. Would have to be multiple 7fig years (unlikely lul) before I would consider quitting and even then I'm probably gonna still be playing for the funsies.

Dece day, lul volume. Got into a sick lineup and ran pretty well at 5k
Not feeling very well the past few days so I'm chilling in the meantime

Big ups to you man. I know you've been playing for a while (I've followed past threads) and I'm curious how you keep your love of the game up? I find that I no longer enjoy poker as much as I did when I was younger and first getting my feet wet but it seems like from your posts you still really enjoy it and have no plans to quit any time soon.

Great thread btw and glglgl <3

Do you do anything specific mental game wise to not worry about the potential swings and potentially losing a reasonable amount of buyins at higher games and then being semi buried when moving back down? That's always been one of my biggest mental blocks in poker tbh and why I tend to stick to games where I'm very confident of the edge available and of the games being around for awhile. Dropping 15 buyins at a higher game and then the game quality sucks for awhile or the games just die off or whatever and then needing to grind back 30+ buyins of ev to recover isn't a very appealing feeling obviously. Do you just try and put it out of your mind and not run through all the different possibilities?

yeah I struggle with this as well (am struggling with it right now). I find that after I lose a substantial amount at higher stakes it makes me have less of a drive to play period so the rebuild at lower stakes takes longer than it ought to. For instance i'm back to grinding now but took several days completely off after my last failed shot. Maybe I should just decrease the slope (thus speed) of my trajectory and play lower until I have more of a roll for the bigger games? That adds months to the process tho not sure what to do. Curious on input from either of you guys

I think it's mostly because it's a new game compared to hold'em. So when you have lots of room to improve, there's a lot of enjoyment when you finally do get better.

I have no doubt that if I had carried on with NL, I'd be at least a little bit burnt out.

If you mean doing something like meditation or injecting logic or something then nope haha. I mostly play within my bankroll requirements so that even a big down session won't leave me crippled.

As for getting buried mentally, it's just going to happen. Just gotta think of it as though that money was never there and you'll be much happier. I think it just happened so many times at 200z->shottake 500z that I slowly got over it. If I have a bad session at 5k these days I have no qualms with sitting lower and cutting out HU/3-4max battling for a while (basically what I did in January-earlyFeb).

If carrying on as you are (shotting until something sticks) creates too much unhappiness with each failed shottake (like my 500z shots), just stick to the lower limit a bit longer till you have more of a padded roll imo.

Could also open up the lab in the meantime of course
