Introduction

Hey guys! My name is Mike, Mikey, Winner, whatever 😀 I’m very new to Poker though having said that my first hand online was probably at least 6 months ago now. I say i’m new because i still feel very new and very very fishy! I am currently 25 years old and transitioning from IT to computer programming in my full time job.

My Poker Story:

I guess i started playing Poker because it seemed fun but i quickly realized how much money you could make if you were good. After many months i just couldnt figure out why i wasnt a winning player. I’ve tried reading those dense books and watch all the poker videos on youtube but none of them seem to offer the kind of straight forward, no bull****, this-system-works kind of practical advice Gorden was mentioning in all his youtube videos about the CFP. I learn much better that way and my only regret is that i didnt hear about you guys any sooner! I’m just grateful i’ve found you guys and now embarking on this journey from FISH TO SHARK 😀

Why the CFP?

The CFP stands for Coaching for Profits program that i'm going through where the coaches only profit from my profits at the table. I wanted to join the CFP because i simply wanted to become better. For now, i have to be honest and say i just want to be a winning player as quickly as possible. But if the CFP can really turn players around like all the testimonials i’ve read, I’m fully ready to bring my A game work ethic and do as much as i can so that hopefully Poker can become my full time job. I was also attracted by the feeling of a close knit family and positive atmosphere that just oozed through all the advertisements. Not the most PC, no, but something resonated with my Poker hunger deep within! Sorry, super cheesy but its true lol.

My Goals:

My goal is to break 10k at all because that seems like such an insurmountable goal for me at the moment but i’m hoping that will change as i go through the program. I look forward to just shutting up and putting in the work as best as i can and open to all feedback. I’m really new to blogging and making youtube videos and such so please share any advice you might have on that if i make any mistakes in the future and hope to deliver some great news to you guys soon!

Day 2.

Ahhhh Yesss the BCP CFP journey has started and the train is leaving the station! It took me a great while to get through all the newbie steps and i completed each step as quickly as i could so i could get started as quickly as i could. And as i had anticipated, it’s only getting more fun . Am i tired? Hell yes, especially with holding a full time job but i’ve never had so much fun with Poker mainly because ive never spent this much time and energy dedicated to learning Poker!

The videos and documents that Gordon has prepared have been amazing as always and i super appreciate all the mindset things we’re hitting over and over again. I really really hope that i can shut up, listen, do, and ask after. I realized that i thought i was totally dedicated to that mantra but there were some parts of me that would be tempted by playing a hand like KK’s if the instructions were strictly to play only AA’s. It was a great wake up call and i just hope that i can be even more yielded to the process than i ever thought was possible. Finishing the program as quickly as possible and becoming a winning player is my goal after all!

I’ve been starting to read the no bull**** 6 max book which was a lot more concise than i expected but of course, i dont know why i expected anything else since we’re talking about Gordon here. I really appreciated the clear breakdown and look forward to religiously following the standard lines in all my games one table, one decision at a time. Reading and trying to memorize the charts gave me a sudden inspiration on perhaps making a web application for my personal use so that i can make the computer quiz me on what my standard lines should be while im away from the poker table…hopefully i can get double the practice since i cant put in as much volume as i see some of my peers doing! Not sure how robust it will be but i am half way done with it after a day’s worth of work so maybe i can finish it by tomorrow.

I’ll be actually playing at least for an hour or two just so i can practice what i have been reading and memorizing during work 😛 and look forward to sharing my gnarly positive or negative graphs with everyone shortly 😀 The skype message group has been amazing for me and Gordon was right, i’ve never met such a close knit group of people that are so eager to excel and help each other out. It’s AMAZING, actually. REALLY.

Thanks BPC and everyone that’s making the CFP possible and i look forward to getting filthy rich ;D

Day 3.

OH MAN. I thought today was the day i finally going to have my first +EV day in a very very long time! It’s all thanks to Gordon’s book, No Bull**** 6-Max Poker and a little bit of studying and preparing, of course but implementing the lines that i’ve learned from Gordon has already made such a difference in not only the way i play but the way i feel when i play.

Most of the time i’m just shocked that a hand that i thought was “playable” isnt even categorized as a call from the position im in and realize that’s probably a huge leak that i just identified. Most of these leaks are happening in the MP and CO but its great to know that Gordon’s strats are helping my game so much already

I didnt get to play too much today because i got back home so late from work but i got a good 60 hands in after trying to get my Chico Hand Converter to work. Not much luck with that but hopefully that’ll change in the near future! The reason why i thought it was going to be a plus EV day was because i was already doing so well not spewing and picking up the blinds when i had to, and of course, the small pots every now and then simply because of the strength of my hand helped me get +10BB or so. And then, this hand came up. OOHHHH YES. ACES:

WPN $2.00 No Limit Hold’em – 4 players – View hand 2813038
DeucesCracked Poker Videos Hand History Converter

Hero (CO): $2.09 – VPIP: 28, PFR: 18, 3B: 9, AF: 4.3, Hands: 7534
BTN: $3.10 – VPIP: 52, PFR: 30, 3B: 13, AF: 4.0, Hands: 33
SB: $6.48 – VPIP: 26, PFR: 17, 3B: 4, AF: 1.4, Hands: 58
BB: $0.73 – VPIP: 23, PFR: 20, 3B: 16, AF: 3.5, Hands: 440

Pre Flop: ($0.03) Hero is CO with A of clubs A of diamonds
Hero raises to $0.10, BTN raises to $0.30, 2 folds, Hero raises to $0.70, BTN raises to $3.10, Hero calls $1.39 all in

Flop: ($4.21) 8 of clubs Q of hearts J of spades (2 players – 1 is all in)

Turn: ($4.21) 5 of clubs (2 players – 1 is all in)

River: ($4.21) 3 of clubs (2 players – 1 is all in)

I was already filled with excitement and im not sure why hand converter wont show me the rest of the hand… but i lost this one because it turns out the villain was going all in with a pair of 8’s! Oh well, that 20%! Luckily i listened to a bit of Gordon’s talk about Tilting and how/why it happens. He said it’s because we feel entitled to a certain outcome like winning a hand with Aces. I certainly hope that i’m always the favorite but statistics is statistics. Even the mighty Aces will be shot down 20% of the time! I was a bit sad, no lie because i was so excited about my first EV day, but i guess i day dreamed a little too quickly to far. LUCKILY, i didnt feel too entitled to start tilting when i lost the hand. All i could do was just laugh. What more can ya do? >_<

It was a close day and i had lost a buy-in but i’m already amazed at how confident i feel in certain spots i know i would have never felt that level of confidence. I’ve been pretty busy and tired as hell writing this report but i’m glad i’m doing it! Now time to hit the Hand Review section and post up a couple different hands! I know it’s only day 3 but i’m really excited about this journey. I really am!

Good luck at the tables, guys!

I writing this a day late but yesterday was my first day where i was plus EV in a long time! Not by much or anything, like 50bb which is only 70 cents…but i guess in terms of bb that’s a lot? I’m having some trouble uploading a picture of my graph here right now but ill figure this out and start posting more screenshots soon. But this was a big deal for me!

My main strategy that helped me achieve this was the following:

Dont play on more than 1 table if you cant “beat” NL2 at one table.
Actively think about your range every hand. This includes:
  • Pre-flop opening range
  • Pre-flop SRP opening range
  • Pre-flop SRP calling range
  • General postflop play
Create and study the notes in a way that makes sense to me. Absorb it, and practice it.
Look for the FISH. Get involved with the fish. Table select for the fish. It’s all about the FISH.
Never have an ego battle with a reg/anyone you know has won some money from you.
Always make sure im following the NOBS guidelines. ALWAYS.
I think that was the key to my “success” at the table yesterday. I say i was plus EV but after rake i think i was pretty much break even. Better than being negative EV AND getting owned by the rake, eh??

Goals for today:
  • Play 1 table
  • Play at LEAST 3 hours after work
  • Post 3 hands
  • Replay to 3 hands
  • Update blog
  • Play more.

Hey, I get the feeling you are a determinate guy, wish you the best of luck! Will be following, as for the pictures of your graph try downloading gyazo, it's a really easy to use software for screenshots and immediately getting a link of the screenshot, then you put the link under the [IMG][/IMG] tags when you are posting a reply on your thread.

Good luck!

Feel free to drop by, comment, and let me know how you're doing on your journey too, friend! What limits do you play? Are you playing casually? Or are you a grinder? Good luck at the tables!

Day 5.

Most of the day was a little slow and frustrating because i was trying to learn the charts and lines as i went through my session. I guess you gotta start somewhere, right? During those couple of hours i felt like my mind was in a haze and i just didnt know what to do, make mistakes and call where i shouldnt, and just lose a bit of money here and there.

Then the most amazing moment of clarity happened. The default charts kind of “came” to me as i thought about the positions and whether it was unopened or opened. I guess my practice was starting to work and good thing too because i was getting a little demoralized! It was nothing to brag about but the moment i started “getting it” at least in this session i realized i just floated around the same size of my stack instead of losing and having to rebuy a whole bunch of times.

I wouldnt ever be down so much that i’d have to rebuy, and the opportune moments when i get a really good hand/run, thats when i make money. All the other times are just for me to NOT LOSE my money. I think im getting the hang of it and here’s my chart. Nothing impressive but just wanted to start documenting these out there for future reference.

I honestly feel like i’ve been running a little bad but no time for a pity party! Excited to get rich!

Day 7

Hey guys, wow, i was in the middle of my session right after i got back to work and i just had to stop because i was getting so scared because i was just winning pots after pots regardless of showdown or before the showdown.

I played a little before i left for work and here’s the session graph:

And here’s the session graph of the session i just stopped playing:

And these are only 340 and 120 hands respectively! And they’re only 2 dollars and some change but that still means a lot to me. Maybe one day ill share my entire graph from day 1 of poker till today but i want to save that for later…plus i dont want to confuse you guys.

But here’s a graph of my poker game since i started coaching with BPC:

The change is so faint that you might not be able to see it on this graph, but the rebound from about 1000 hands is REAL. I dont know if ive just been running well which im sure has been a factor, but i know ive been doing everything i can to try to follow the NOBS guidelines!

I was really worried because i work 12+ hours a day sometimes excluding commuting and so i’ve been putting in a lot of time off the table to memorize the charts, lines, and everything i can to make sure my time at the tables werent wasted. I’m not sure if it’s working or how long it’ll last but i’ll just keep doing what i’ve been doing – listening to Gordon.

His advice and the lines he suggests just work like magic sometimes – i dont know why they fold, but im glad i listened and acted because it’s slowly but surely going to help me make profits! I always looked for someone or a program that would give it to me like Gordon would. Gordon always says, “I’m sorry this doesnt sound PC,” or “You might get offended,” but i think those are the best times to shut up, listen, and do. Most of what he says is funny anyways because it’s true and i can only imagine his frustration when people knowingly ignore his proven science of taking a losing player to a winning player.

Anyways, im super grateful for having found BPC and the CFP program, my only hope is that i can keep putting in the hours and grow as fast as i can given my other ambitions in life. Dont get me wrong, i dont hate what i do for work, i think it’s the best thing that ever happened to me — until i found BPC haha. It demands a lot of creativity and challenges me in ways that i had never experienced in my life. But it IS true that Poker is quickly becoming my obsession. So much so that i’m seriously thinking about moving from the US to Canada just so i can play more tables.

These may just be fancy dreams but you gotta have dreams to fuel your success, right? I’m pumped to look toward that future, a future where i can get more involved in Poker and just grriiinnnnd it out. Total opposite from what i do from work and sounds like a total bore to most people but hey, you know and i know, nothing’s quite like poker

Hope to update you guys with even better news (maybe in the long run) soon!

Hey guys!

just a quick update today! I feel like the closer i follow the guidelines the better i play; ive had 2 positive EV sessions so far but i think i had a cooler today whch was a bummer but still could have done other things to not loose as much money else where so ill be focusing on those spots!

Theyre chasing backdoor draws,
not betting 4bb from BB,
not 3b/folding value hands
cbetting non-dry/ and not cbetting dryboards
But even then managed to only lose 1/4BI so feeling confident and ready to practice more tomorrow! here’s my graph of todays sesion:

And here’s my CFP progress so far:

Day 11

Lol it’s been ROUGH guys. i feel likes ive been trying to stick to the preflop and postflop charts…but maybe a little too much. I lost a whole bunch of buy-ins in the last 2 days, probably like 12 or something. I just wanted to see if it was a fluke but i think it was a combination of running bad but also tilting very hard half way through my last two sessions. Here’s my graph for today:

Yeah, pretty painful.

But here’s what i’m going to do differently.

I’m going to try to play the “spirit” of NOBS instead of every decision being perfectly correct with what the book says because frankly i cant seem to get it right and the harder i try to get it, the more impossible it seems.
Also, im going to play more tables, at least 4, maybe 6. I know enough of the preflop ranges to fold junk hands but i think i get too bored to stay disciplined with some of my hands which isnt a good sign as well but i just feel like i can take on more action.
I’m going to look up some commentary by Hans did on youtube. I looked at them before i joined BPC and didnt understand a thing but listening to it for a little bit today was very insightful. NL10 and lower Hans also recommends the “simple” strategy.
So there it is! Here’s my graph for the month/since i joined CFP:

Also, my daily goals are:

ATLEAST 500 hands a day during the week work
3 hand postings a day
3 hand comments a day
