I actually don't like his videos. It's fun to see how he plays, but I don't think he communicates his ideas very well and he just talks so slowly that it feels like he doesn't actually want to be doing the video. Great player, maybe not so great a coach, IDK.

Chilling. Been poker-free apart from the odd 2p2 visit. Needed some time to remember that I have a life and obligations outside of poker. Might play a session or two between now and Saturday, but I'm def missing Sunday as I have a gig to go to. Will be back at it next Monday though for sure.

Funeral For A Friend in Portsmouth. I have terrible taste in music so that's probably the last time you'll see me talk about it ITT.

Funeral For a Friend feels a bit Lostprophets-y. It's not my "main" style, but it's still not bad either. You can pm me about your favourite bands etc., maybe I'll be able to suggest sth for you

Haha. You'll like it even more when you realize it was taken from an Elton John song . One of my best mates was in that band but left a couple of years ago. Lives in Vegas now, manages the Apple store.

Should probably clarify for anyone not familiar with them that 'in Portsmouth' is not part of the name, haha.

Seriously? That's amazing. I see about seven former members listed on their wiki page, which one was it? My mate who bought the ticket for me will find that story hilarious. He's been into them basically since the start.

Gareth Davies. He played bass from just before they got signed. I was pally with all the band for a time. Been to a TON of FFAF shows. Not what I'd usually be into but you support your mates I guess and I thought they were great at what they did. When they were at their peak him & I started making a record together but we never finished it. I've still got some of the tracks somewhere.

Ha, that's great. I haven't seen them before but I've been a fan for ages. Actually really stoked for Sunday night.

January Review/February Goals

January graph in all games:

Turns out I played more games than I thought, so HM2 was off a little. A lot of those are FPP satties and stuff though so they don't 100% count. Happy with my month's results, though.

I think it must be fairly obvious that the point at which my graph upswings dramatically was the point at which I cut down a bunch of tables. I hope the positive impact that dropping tables had on my game will continue into the rest of the year.

Goals for February:

Maintain volume - having dropped tables, 1500 MTTs might be tough, but I can easily drop in some 180s if necessary. I'll stick with that goal.

Post 5 hands per day on strategy forums - Watching training videos is useful, and I'm gonna continue watch as many as possible, but I'm not going to track how many I watch as it was kinda annoying to keep track of. Instead, I'm going to make sure I save troublesome hands from each session and post them on the strat forums of the sites I'm a member of. This won't include 2p2 as I just don't think the strat forums here are that good.

Begin a meditative practice - This is something I've been intending to start doing for a while. I was originally thinking of doing it more as a way to prevent tilt while playing poker than anything else, but the more I think about it the more I feel like it's a good thing to have for everyday life anyway, so I'll probably start doing it every morning.

Random other thoughts

This week I've been taking time off from poker to firstly sort out some real-life stuff that's been building up, but also to make sure I dedicate enough time to the other things in my life. I've made no secret of wanting to be a writer/director/general creator once I leave poker, and my expectation is that that will happen around the time I turn 30 in 2017. This week I've watched six really amazing movies and listened to a bunch of podcasts and interviews with some people I really admire, and it's made me super motivated and excited about my career after poker, as well as making me think a lot more about what I can do to make myself not just a better poker player, but a better artist too.

This, in turn, has made me super motivated for poker itself, which is great - the more money I make during my time in poker, the more I can do with my life afterwards. However, the one other thing that's come out of it is that I've been thinking very carefully about how the habits I pick up in poker are going to help or hinder me as a writer in future. One thing in that regard is my motivation and desire to improve - this is only going to help me in future. Another thing is my enjoyment of writing in this thread and being an active part of 2p2. The more people start to know who I am - even though I am, for all intents and purposes, a complete nobody outside this thread - the more self-conscious I become, and that's something that can be crippling for an artist, especially someone like me who's already socially conscious enough as it is. Once this year is done, I'm thinking pretty seriously about giving up internet forums entirely. I think they can be a great thing, and I'm really grateful for all the support my threads have got over the last year and a bit; but I also think they can be completely toxic at times, and I don't want to develop habits of self-consciousness that are going to harm my future career.

At the end of the day, I would give up every cent I've ever made from poker if it meant success as an artist, so even if it harms my long-term EV a little I think this is likely to be my last goals thread. It may turn out that I don't continue the thread throughout the year, but I like to think I'll at least be good enough at following through to keep up with it through 2013. I'll keep Tweeting stuff I'm sure, as I think Twitter's a great resource, but I may also give up Facebook as it's becoming an increasingly useless place lately too.

Truthfully, I think there are a lot of thought patterns in poker - suppression of emotion, hyper-rationality and logic, etc etc - which are completely at odds with the thought processes necessary in a successful artist; the reason I plan to cut the cord with poker (after a fashion) when I start my future career is that I just don't think the two go well together. This week has been a microcosm of what that shift is going to be like for me - I've done almost nothing poker-related, and it's been great. I am super-excited to get back to poker now, but it has taught me the value of compartmentalising. I think you'll see more decisions this year from me that will be aimed at dividing up my life so that I don't sacrifice either any poker EV or non-poker lifeEV.

EDIT: GLGLGL to all playing today, today is my last day off before I'm back on the grind!

Yeah I've actually been into yoga a little over the last year or so, it's great, but I've temporarily given it up for a while as some of the poses were causing an old shoulder injury of mine to flare up.

Hey dude, sorry I didn't reply ITT earlier. I mostly just meant the training forums I'm subscribed to, which is basically all of them.

I haven't been very good about posting hands yet - maybe I'll expand the remit to discussing hands, as I don't always have hands I feel need discussing.

Anyhow, today's been good, shipped the Big 30 on .fr and got 2nd in a 5quad, both after being 9/9. Playing pretty low at the moment as I could use the IRL cash, and I don't wanna rack up some makeup quickly.
