Thanks man. LOL at my last post, I guess I was in an emo mood. I took a look at my SharkScope today and it seems I've only played >1k MTTs in 2 out of the 11 months of this year, and I've only managed about 630-ish in each of the last two months. That's obviously a big disappointment for me, so I'm going to be making an effort to get things right over the rest of 2013. I'll be aiming for 1k games in December, and hopefully I'll hit some heat as a reward for working a bit harder.

I used to play a lot of 180s, and I still play them occasionally when I'm short on time or needing to fill up table space. I've probably played less than 1k of them in 2013, though, despite playing >20k of them in the 18 months before this year.

ABI changes, it's probably between $40-50 right now but it jumps to about $70 on Sundays and during major series. Trying to keep down to 12 tables, occasionally jumping a bit higher but only when I'm playing a lower ABI. Usually only have 4-6 tables going late in my sessions when deep runs are happening, though. I'm not one of those people that just keeps registering as long as they're still in anything decent.

Lol, you unsubbed when I made that emo post? That's an incentive for me not to make any more of them haha, but I've made so many in the past that you must be constantly subbing and unsubbing.

Makeup is around $52k or something atm. Not really keeping close track of it.

It's not great to deal with, but it's really just a question of getting used to it. It really is entirely standard to go through swings this big. I'm still playing good poker - in fact yesterday I felt like I played pretty close to the best I've played for a while - so it'll turn around soon. I just need to keep getting enough sleep, eating well and exercising, since those are the things that prevent me from having moments of weakness like I did last weekend. Last weekend I didn't sleep enough, and I was tilted as a result.

If you want a good perspective on makeup, go read TheLipoFund's thread in this forum where he grinds his way out of $200k in makeup. If a player as good as him can get that deep, anyone can, but it also means anyone with that level of dedication and motivation can get out of it again.

He'd be the first to say he was -ev and not very good when accruing most of that makeup.

I think your attitude is heading towards concerning territory. I know you have climbed out of a hole before and had a lot of success but that's a pretty big hole to be in.

Unless it's adding 1k's and 5k's and big WCOOP events, $52k/$60AB= 866 BI's down.

Yeah, I'll admit my attitude wavers. Probably my biggest struggle this year has been reconciling my motivation for poker with my motivation for other things. If I had the money and the choice, I would snap quit playing poker full time and focus on writing, because that's what I want to do long-term, so I've struggled with balance.

However, while my attitude was undoubtedly pretty crappy for a while, I do feel like I've been playing close to my best recently. Today I've been running a lot better, too - 2nd in the Hot 25 on .fr, 4th in the 75 6max on FTP, 2nd in the Turbo Hundo on FTP, and 1/8 in the Multi Fifty right now.

One of the bright spots to come out of the last few months is that I'm spending a lot more time coaching, and really enjoying it. It's giving me more of a perspective on how I spend my time, and now that I am able to make money from poker away from the tables doing something that I enjoy, it does keep my enthusiasm for the game higher than it might be otherwise.

I appreciate your input and I'm glad to have people I respect pointing out flaws in my attitude and my game. At an honest estimate, I would say at least $20k or so of that downswing is probably due to my playing very mediocre poker. I could certainly have minimized it with some better game selection too, so that's just a mistake I've made, and it's not the only one by a long shot.

Miracle of miracles, I won a tournament tonight. The 5 euro re-entry Micro Series on .fr for 4k euros, my biggest score in a few months. Huge relief. Let's go for Sunday!

Hey guys,

Sorry I haven't been updating here lately, it's been crazy trying to get things done in December. January isn't going to be much better, but here's hoping I can keep up with it a little more effectively.

I've started a new thread for 2014, and posted an update on how I got on with my 2013 goals, as well as my goals for the new year. I hope you'll all join me over there!
